With so many new statistics available in our Members section this season, the ability to compare players’ performances from last time round becomes handier than ever. Ahead of Norwich’s home clash against West Ham this weekend, we cast an eye on the Canaries midfield and, bypassing their top scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player Robert Snodgrass, delve deeper into the displays of Anthony Pilkington instead:

Pilkington was a frustrating pick last season. Too often susceptible to Paul Lambert’s rotation policy at Carrow Road, the left winger started just 23 games and racked up a total of 1975 minutes but still managed to find the net on eight occasions. This time round, Chris Hughton has installed him as a key figure in the Norwich starting XI, with Pilkington playing every minutes of the club’s three matches so far – while he’s yet to find the net, Pilkington has provided an assist and, as the figures suggest, his potential for attacking returns has definitely taken a turn for the better.

                  To be honest, I usually got my 'magic' spreadsheet on the go from gw1 (shows 6 weeks trades ahead, linked to ticker etc) but with work and rugby commitments haven't had chance to populate.

                  So no, not yet mate.

                  But I really do need to pull ones finger out of ones rectum 😯 !

    I never took much notice of Snodgrass when he moved to Norwich. Pilkington was always the mid i had my eye on. Just thought Snodgrass was a typical run of the mill midfielder who did great in the Championship, but his performances would peter out as he made the step up to the Prem. Is his FPL hype justified? I haven't watched him this season at all.

    The plan was to offload Swansea players for Norwich assets around GW 9, as their fixtures become decent when Swansea's turn poor.

    Graham, Dyer, Michu, Rangel, Vorm > Holt, Pilkington, Snodgrass, Martin, Ruddy... could be the way to go

    Bennett may return from injury soon which is making me doubt Pilkington slightly. For those who are members, or have seen Snodgrass play this season, what are your thoughts on him for FPL?

      I saw the game against Tottenham. He was their most influential player, attacking wise. That said, he had a team putting a massive shift behind him.

        If Norwich can cut out the suicidal mistakes they have a good defence though. Being an honest bluebird though the Swans look very very good

      I was actually thinking the same thing that GW9 the turning point for fixtures. Have been eyeing it myself. Need to watch a few matches myself for a clearer picture (Snod vs Pilk). Honestly i do not think they are as poor defensivley as people seem to think. Cheap defenders might be a best way into their line up.

      I think SOT fixtures are equally as strong during that same period. Michu/Graham> Lallama/Lambert?

      i've had him from the start, so have been keeping a eye on his performances,
      imo unlucky to not have more goals/ assists already and on most norwich
      free kicks, seriously considering giving him the armband saturday

      I remember last year similar news about RVP made me not cpt him against Blackburn, and he got 20+ points. Do not want that to happen again.

      But Fergie does have more options than Wenger did, so still unsure....

        Thing is, if a player is a doubt, SAF will sometimes deliberately mislead in his press conf to put the opposition manager on the backfoot. Let Martinez plan to defend against a United team without RVP then, surprise surprise, RVP starts and scores a brace before being rested after 60 mins with game all but wrapped up.

      Depends really.

      I have him but when I mess around with my team and leave him out it seems I can build a team that will potentially yield a lot more points than is currently possible with him in. With Tevez in such form RVP is no longer essential as the 'obvious captain choice'.

      May ship him next week.

    I wonder what the algorithm is? I know the most statistically significant opta stats to win matches are: Shots on Target per Game, Total Shots per Game, Pass Completion % in final 3rd, Successful Dribbles per Game in Final 3rd and Dribble Success % in Final 3rd. So it must be based around this type of concept? No?

      well it's machine learning so it'd be very difficult for the researchers to convey the algorithm it's using as it's constantly updating, but yes it will be based on the same sort of performance indicators that we see in the members area 🙂

      I haven't read anything on this but someone posted that its been used one season with a top 3k result right?
      If so it doesn't say much. In terms of human managers, ie us, not much stock is put in one good but rather consistently results over multiple seasons yeah as the longer you the more the luck factor is minimised yeah? Or am I rambling nonsense? I am lacking sleep 🙂
