Luis Suarez isn’t everyone’s favourite player. Impromptu goalkeeping, the Patrice Evra incident and a baffling vendetta against woodwork comprise the newsworthy misadventures of a man equally distinguished by his managers’ favour and the public contempt. But whilst his unequivocal admirers might be restricted to the Kop and the carpentry trade, Fantasy managers can ill afford to be too picky with their heroes in a game that measures virtue purely in terms of points.

A stuttering start to the season can be excused in a team unsettled by a wearying saga of tactical and managerial revolutions on Merseyside, and if the optimism that attended Brendan Rodgers’ arrival has been somewhat subdued by Liverpool’s unflattering league position, strong performances against Sunderland and United in recent weeks suggest that the tide is turning.

In terms of shots on target and chances created over the last two weeks Liverpool are in the Champions League spots, and whilst new acquisition Joe Allen and youth team graduate Raheem Sterling have gelled seamlessly in Rogers’ favoured 4-3-3, the comparatively innocuous exploits of Fabio Borini only serve to cement Suarez’s role as the indispensable spearhead of the Liverpool attack.

Whilst Steven Fletcher, Dimitar Berbatov and Ricky Lambert have hogged the headlines and cast an understandable shade over Suarez’s recent performances, that darkness may provide a propitious advantage to those Fantasy managers armed with the sober and impartial light of OPTA stats. Indeed, Suarez has eclipsed his acclaimed competitors in several key areas, and whilst he shows no inclination to forfeit his post-hitting pre-eminence, his threat stats augur an imminent improvement of his already-respectable tally of two goals in five games.

Norwich’s combative home form could present a potential banana skin to Liverpool’s attacking aspirations next weekend, but their work-in-progress defence remains susceptible to breach and Suarez’s guile and energy will furnish a stern test – last season’s Carrow Road hat-trick, capped by a memorable 45-yard effort, stands testament to the Uruguayan’s capabilities. Back-to-back home games against a winless Stoke and an incontinent Reading then serve to complete a tempting trio of ties that should provide Rodgers’ resurgent Reds ample opportunity to jump start their campaign.

With the threat of rest and rotation now haunting the footsteps of the hitherto hegemonic Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie, Suarez’s comparative security becomes a conspicuous asset and, priced at 9.4 in the Fantasy Premier League and 9.6 in the Sky Sports game, canny investors may be set to reap rewards from Luis’ forthcoming weekends.

Can’t wait for the podcast this week. Granny finally overtook Mark, he sold Tevez with 2 FT and Mark is still knee jerking, made a 4pt hit and still has Tevez. It is gonna be quality after 3 week brake. So psyched about it !

With hindsight maybe he would have done a couple of weeks ago, but if he thinks this will be his last hit and his team will be set up for the foreseeable future there's no point playing it now. Those hits are in the past - can't dwell on them.

I've got 1 FT, and I have £4.5 in the bank. Any changes I should make?

    Mignolet - Jaaskelainen
    Gunter - Ridgewell - Demel - Cole - Hangeland
    Cazorla - Pienaar - Kacanikic - Yaya - Hazard
    Fletcher - Tevez - Berbatov

Also out of curiosity, who would be your starting 11 this week?

I'd get Baines in there for Cole. But then again, Tevez might not play this week, so you might want to get him out for a FT, but if I were you, I'd get Baines in for Cole.

Tevez should only be shipped out for a hit if -

    a) You will captain the player you are bringing in

    and

    b) You are planning on making the transfer anyway the following gameweek

For me I am planning on bringing Aguero in for Tevez but I wouldn't captain Aguero this week so I am best waiting a week.

    TEVEZ vs AGUERO

    both are first choices

with 3 matches in one week it is unlikely that either of them plays all 3

so whoever u have , he will be a rotation risk

so opt for the cheaper one, tevez

at the end of the season barring injuries more or less they will play the same amount of matches

at least these are my thoughts of this issue...

Cuellar won't return I guess as MON said he's very very doubtful for two weeks when his comments on the injury broke out. Zab and A Cole put me off a bit, City look too leaky and Chelsea are away at Arsenal and I don't think any side would be able to keep a CS. The front looks set though.

Haha ye I think the same, I am not expecting cleanies, think cleanies are a bit of a scarce thing to come by for now, except with WBA a little... Going for the attacking points and being hopeful.

You could do some work in the defense in the coming weeks I think, Zab's a rotation risk and Cole has some tough fixtures uptil the Club World Cup.

I wouldn't captain Fletcher is all I would say to you. He's one of those players who scores a goal per game but never seems to bang in a brace or anything more. Up to yourself and I could be wrong but I'd go for RVP personally.

Can see him being quiet. not gonna score in every game and everyone will be putting him this week and expecting him to score v wigan. I still think sunderland will win but not big.

Updated WC team, what do we think?

    Foster Begovic

    Baines Rafael Davies Nelsen Wilson

Yaya Toure Cazorla Michu Fellaini Puncheon

    RVP Aguero Berbatov

    Looking towards HBA GW9

Cheap defenders have an awesome three team rotation

Too many rotation risks. Yes they might be playing now but in 3 weeks time you could have a week where Rafael, Davies, Nelson, Wilson, Puncheon, Aguero & RVP are all on the bench.

Anyone fancy betting on a Man Utd penalty tonight?

Referee is Anthony Taylor. He'll be travelling all the way from Wythenshawe for the game 😉

Everybody seems to be acting like Jelavic is returning from a long injury. He missed one game from a bruised knee. He ran on that knee after he bruised it and made 25 minutes last night.
His only risk to starting is Anichibe's form - he's no risk on account of injury.

True, It will be very hard for Moyes to drop Anichebe and Mirallas...I think for that reason it's risky going for Jelavic right now...plus he still may be eased back regardless of the short period he was out.

Possibly wildcarding...those in capitals are player I'd bring in..

Anybody mind RMTing? A few reliables, one or two gambles, a few players I know may be subject to rotation too...

    Foster (McCARTHY)

BAINES GIBBS CAHILL/J EVANS Nelsen Demel

    Cazorla YAYA Pienaar OSCAR PUNCHEON

    RVP Berbatov BA/DEFOE

Would lose the likes of Tevez, Hazard, Zabaletta, S Taylor, Noble A. Johnson ....

I'm not sure if Oscar's gonna play all the games, you'd be looking to get him out soon imo. Cahill and Evans both have difficult fixtures and I can't see too many Clean sheets from either side. McCarthy might make way for Federici, we don't know. Rest I think looks fine.

Thanks..appreciate you taking the time to RMT

I agree about Oscar..but I think the whole Chelsea mids will get rotated and he's the cheapest of the creative triumphirate..plus a big differential.

Coule easily downgrade Cahill/Evans if they are not bringing home the points..

Don't want McCarthy but can't afford anybody above 4.0!

With this team: (1 FT, 4.5 in the bank)

      Mignolet - Jaaskelainen
      Gunter - Ridgewell - Demel - Cole - Hangeland
      Cazorla - Pienaar - Kacanikic - Yaya - Hazard
      Fletcher - Tevez - Berbatov

      Should I do...
      A) A. Cole ---> Baines
      B) Hangeland / Gunter --> Baines
      C) Something else (not Tevez)
