EA's system of summarising stats into one "overall" figure and it is used to determine BAPs.

It is the "player performance index". Every player gets a PPI score for each match he plays. Blocks/ tackles/ clearances etc. give a good PPI for a defender.
Shots on target/ goals/ key passes/ chances created give a good PPI for mids/ forwards.
