634x258 The Stock Check

First half strikes from Matt Jarvis and Ricardo Vaz Te are enough to earn the Hammers a first away win and leave QPR adrift at the bottom of the table. Here’s the Stock Check from Monday’s Gameweek finale…

On the Up

Adel Taarabt
Back to fitness and back in favour, Taarabt found his way onto the R’s bench and entered the action to drag Mark Hughes’ side back into the game. His goal was sublime and unstoppable, his touch and creativity also eye-catching. If only he could cement a regular starting role, he’d be QPR’s one major Fantasy asset.

Andy Carroll
On the bench after recovering early from a hamstring injury, Carroll was introduced for Carlton Cole midway through the second half and, despite Cole’s work rate, the Geordie will surely replace him in the lineup when Arsenal pay visit this weekend. Kevin Nolan and company will be delighted. Arsene Wenger won’t be.

Ricardo Vaz Te
Those Fantasy managers searching for a budget option in attack could do well to consider the Portuguese striker who claimed his first goal of the season to accompany two assists so far. Yossi Benayoun will threaten his starting role but Vaz Te is doing enough to warrant his start right now.

Jussi Jaaskaleinen
Denied a clean sheet by Taarabt’s wonder strike, the Finnish stopper nonetheless impressed with a string of saves to offer a reminder as to his value in the budget keeper bracket.

Going Down

Winston Reid
Forced off in the first-half, the Kiwi defender suffered concussion and could therefore be a doubt for the weekend. West Ham have an able replacement in James Tomkins and Reid’s growing Fantasy ownership (12.5% in the FPL) will be monitoring news from the Hammers camp with interest. A clean sheet against the Gunners would seem unlikely but Tomkins will be looking to make a firm claim for a starting role if he’s given the opportunity.

Mark Noble
His performances are strong but his Fantasy returns are lacking. Noble’s reliance on set-pieces has yet to pay dividends and patience appears to be wearing thin. With the likes of Raheem Sterling offering a decent prospect in the budget bracket, Noble’s ownership continues to diminish.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What's the best way to run an International break wildcard (or rather what's the advantage there)?

Do you bring in players at the start and go for price rises to boost your value?
Or is it so you can see who's knackered at the end of it?

I always buy the players that will rise that there is a reasonable chance that I want to keep, or that look likely to rise twice. I also make sure to don't sell players that have risen in value without thinking it through closely. Then I try different solutions but only confirm one very late on that I go with.

I had a horrible wildcard once where I sold Stephen Ireland by mistake when fooling around with my wildcard and he'd gained like 1.5m in value and I wanted to keep him... Don't do that, kids!

This is exactly what I did last year! Sold Vorm who'd gone up at least 1.5m and ended up getting him back for even more! THIS is why I am asking advice on wildcards, I never get it right.

You check who is in you want to keep.
You check who you want to get.
You check who is going to be a riser, three at most probably.
You get the risers in first, for deadwood ... etc.

So you ride the risers (as it were) for the duration of the break - and ship them for players you actually want (presuming they're different) at the end?

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. I don't think 0.5 value rise is worth an international break wildcard for me - i.e. my team isn't THAT terrible right now, so think I will plug on and find some other sneaky time to use it...

Facing a first red arrow of the season and sitting on 40 points does not feel great, but I am resisting using my FT so I can have 2 for after the international break. I think that's the wise thing to do.

    Thoughts?

If you have no pressing issues then it would be good to save. You should have chance to make some money over the break by picking the right bandwagon.

Never mind, everyone was in the same boat. Won't have time tomorrow with the early deadline so my transfers are made and hits are taken.

Ramirez had the most shots of any Southampton player against Everton and scored. He also assisted a goal the last time, looks nailed on and is an alternative to Lambert who, while being great value I would prefer to budget with my mids than strikers. I'm not sure whether to be patient getting in Bale or taking a hit to just get him in and relax. It's a tricky one.

Lost at the end of the last page. Thoughts on doing Fletcher -> Suarez. Very surprised the Suarez bandwagon hasn't started given the hat trick and great fixtures the pool have. Fletcher has been consistent but I don't think he has the ability to explode like Suarez can. On the flip side he could go on a run of 2,2,2,2,2,2. Away for the weekend from Wed onwards so early decision has to be made!

Could do with a bit of help.

    Mig - Krul (Inj)

    Demel - Ivanovic - Baines - Clyne - Williams

    Bale - Michu - Pienaar - Sterling - Nolan

    RVP - Tevez - Fletcher

1 FT and .1m in the bank.

Thinking of getting Foster in for Krul but it seems to be a waste when I might be WC'ing for GW7.

    Thoughts?

A few of us here may have this decision to make in the coming days

    A) Save a transfer
    B) Hazard --> Bale

Both have good fixtures this week but one is clearly in form whereas the other has been on the wane. Why wait a week? Why not get the form player in now?
