Once again we roll out our weekly regular, assessing the strength of schedule over the next four to six Gameweeks. Stoke, Arsenal, Newcastle and City all look potentially prosperous acquisitions over the upcoming few matches, while Chelsea and Spurs could be set for a testing time ahead:

The Strong

Stoke

A trip to United looks the only blot on the landscape as the Potters’ horrendous opening schedule finally begins to clear. After their Gameweek 8 Old Trafford visit, Tony Pulis’ side then square up to (SUN, nor, QPR, whm, FUL) and while some may have doubts over their goal potential, Stoke’s defensive resolve is surely set to see their main Fantasy assets picks up plenty new investment.

Despite facing Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Liverpool in their first seven Gameweeks, Stoke have the second most impressive backline in the league, with a mere five goals conceded – a clear sign of their capabilities. Asmir Begovic – coming in at 4.6 in Fantasy Premier League – looks a cut-price keeper option and affords owners of West Brom’s Ben Foster a strong rotation partner between the sticks. Robert Huth and Ryan Shawcross are the other usual suspects, though Geoff Cameron has started five of the last six and can also be feature in Pulis’ midfield, now Andy Wilkinson has returned from suspension. Marc Wilson is a cut-price alternative, having played every minute of the season so far.

Michael Kightly and Jon Walters both appeal for different reasons in the Fantasy games. The former Wolves man is classified as a defender in the Sky Sports game, while Walters’ FPL classification as a midfielder, allied with spot-kick duties, should see him pick up new ownership. Peter Crouch’s contribution up top looks vital for Pulis – with four goals and an assist, the forward has had a hand in five of Stoke’s six goals over the opening seven Gameweeks.

Arsenal

Having shown their resilience by battling back to end West Ham’s unbeaten home record, Arsenal now find themselves with a strong run of fixtures to continue their recent good form. The Gunners travel to Norwich next and with Chris Hughton’s side shipping nine in the last two matches, there is clear armband potential amongst Arsene Wenger’s regulars at Carrow Road.

Arsenal then have three home fixtures in the following four, with plenty of Fantasy managers keen to scramble aboard. Santi Cazorla looks the main protagonist, while Wenger’s decision to play Olivier Giroud through the centre and shift Gervinho out wide may see Lukas Podolski’s appeal increase, with the German’s role on the left pretty much nailed-on.

At the back, while Thomas Vermaelen’s attacking threat is reflected in his higher cost, Kieran Gibbs looks the only guaranteed starter in the mid-price bracket over the long-term now; Bacary Sagna is edging ever-closer to a return, placing huge question marks over Carl Jenkinson’s game time at right-back.

Newcastle

Trips to Sunderland and Liverpool aside, the next six Gameweeks look kind to Alan Pardew’s side. After the Gameweek 8 Tyne-Wear derby, Newcastle have three home games (WBA, WHM, SWA) and a trip to Southampton in the following five matches – offering potential of Fantasy points right across the board.

At the back, Danny Simpson has now dropped to 4.8 in FPL and while doubts remain over Tim Krul’s availability, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini could be in line to return and significantly boost the Magpies’ defensive prospects. Hatem Ben Arfa, with attacking returns in three of his four home appearances, is the only real contender in Pardew’s midfield, while Demba Ba remains the top scoring forward in FPL despite Sunday’s blank against United. Papiss Cisse now has just 4% ownership in FPL and could be a real differential if he can regain confidence and form up front.

Man City

The champions head into the international break having recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season. With a first clean sheet also accrued, Roberto Mancini’s side are starting to click as the campaign begins to settle. City now have three home games (SWA, TOT, AVL) in the next five fixtures allied with trips to West Brom and West Ham – the Baggies 100% home record looks to be in real danger as Sergio Aguero and co make their way to the Hawthorns next time round.

Yaya Toure and David Silva can expect to see investment come their way in light of City’s schedule, with the midfield duo pretty much protected from their manager’s rotational whims, though the same can hardly be applied to the defence. Micah Richards’ return against Sunderland merely confuses the situation further – Vincent Kompany remains the only defender who will play if fit, though missed out last weekend with a calf problem.

Up front, Aguero served his managers a timely reminder of his cutting edge against the Black Cats. Unexpectedly moved to the bench at the weekend, the Argentine took a matter of minutes to find the net – something Carlos Tevez hasn’t done since the end of Gameweek 3.

Also Consider

Everton – the fixture list continues to smile kindly on David Moyes’ men. The Toffees have three prosperous looking Goodison games in the next six (LIV, SUN, NOR) and with trips to struggling QPR and Reading also on their agenda, owners of Leighton Baines, Marouane Fellaini, Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic will be anticipating plenty more points.

Southampton – although they’ve yet to pick up a point on the road, Nigel Adkins’ side have offered a strong source of attacking returns at St Mary’s. The Saints have now scored eight times in their last three home games and with (TOT, SWA, NEW) paying visit in the next six Gameweeks, the promoted club will need to continue their recent goal returns, with clean sheets proving impossible to come by. Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana are the obvious choices here – Gaston Ramirez’s owners will be hoping the Uruguayan can quickly recover from a leg problem.

Fulham – the Cottagers are afforded a decent run of fixtures over the next five as Martin Jol looks to improve on their recent displays. The return to fitness of Dimitar Berbatov is obviously vital – Fulham have taken a point from the last two in the Bulgarian’s absence – and with (AVL, EVE, SUN) and a trip to Reading in the next five, the former United man looks armband material for that Gameweek 8 clash with Villa in particular. John Arne Riise offers a source of creativity from the back, with three assists already, while Damien Duff’s guaranteed game time makes him a more secure punt than Alex Kacaniklic, in spite of the latter’s budget-friendly price tag.

The Weak

Aston Villa

One point from the last three games, a single clean sheet all season and Darren Bent dropped to the bench – Paul Lambert’s arrival hasn’t quite worked out for the midlanders yet. Unfortunately for Villa, the upcoming schedule is showing no mercy. Trips to Fulham and Sunderland hardly appeal, while games against United, City and Arsenal are also set to severely test Lambert’s squad over the next six Gameweeks. With a mere 2.5% ownership, Ciaran Clark is the most popular Villa player in FPL – a sure sign of how little Fantasy faith we have in the midlanders right now.

Tottenham

Andre Villas-Boas’ side steel themselves for a tricky upcoming run of fixtures which could test their winning run. Spurs have now triumphed in their last four, with a victory at United indicative of their flourishing form, but now entertain Chelsea at the Lane and travel to City and Arsenal in the next five. While clashes against Southampton and Wigan hold huge appeal for Gareth Bale owners, Jermain Defoe will be looking over his shoulder with Emmanuel Adebayor now approaching full fitness, while the likes of Jan Vertonghen may struggle for new investment at the back – Steven Caulker’s cut-price appeal offers a slightly less risky route into the back-four.

Chelsea

With just two points dropped and four goals conceded in their opening seven matches, the Champions League winners have been quick out the blocks but now embark on a run of games which will test their potential to the full. Roberto Di Matteo’s side square up to Spurs, United, Liverpool and City in the next six Gameweeks and with trips to Swansea and West Brom also on the cards, there seems little opportunity for armband potential here. Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard could face a battle to hold onto top spot in the FPL defender and midfielder rankings respectively, while Spanish duo Juan Mata and Fernando Torres will need to replicate their recent impressive showings for the Blues to prosper.

Also Be Wary Of…

Swansea – With two or more goals conceded in each of their last five matches and just two points accrued from Gameweek 3 onwards, Michael Laudrup’s side have quickly went off the boil. While the upcoming home clash against Wigan will afford Michu a temporary reprieve, Swansea’s assets could be on the verge of substantial sales. The Welsh club then face City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool in the following five, with only a trip to Southampton offering any sort of solace from an unrelenting schedule. Michel Vorm, Ashley Williams and Angel Rangel also look on shaky ground.

West Brom – Steve Clarke’s side square up to three of last season’s top six in the next five Gameweeks, with their winning streak at the Hawthorns set to be fully tested. City and Chelsea both pay visit, while a trip to Newcastle also looks a tricky proposition. With games against Southampton and Wigan also on the horizon, however, owners of James Morrison, Ben Foster and Gareth McAuley will be happy to hold.

Surprised that people are already suggesting RVP will be rested for Stoke at home...to me this seems absurd. Stoke are so much more respected as a team than Wigan who Man Utd regularly beat 5-0. Fergie only did those changes the last time because he needed to put out the strongest possible side vs. Galatasary. Already against Cluj he was willing to drop the likes of Kagawa completely from the game. Can you reallly envisage him dropping RVP for a must-win home game where the opposition are renowned for being extremely stubborn defensively as well as having excellent form against top-four opposition??

    Stoke vs.
    Man City 1 goal conceded
    Chelsea 1 goal conceded
    Liverpool 0 goals conceded
    Arsenal 0 goals conceded
    Swansea 0 goals conceded

That's 2 goals conceded against teams with very decent attacking players. Javi Garcia and Ashley Cole are the only ones to score against them in these games.

Do you think Fergie's first thought will be...'Well this will be a doddle...might as well leave it to Chicharito!'

    No...no it will not.

when man u have tasty fixture like GW11-13 u shud still have cash available to buy rooney who will be involved in the goals as he will be running the show for man u now

this is whatjonty was saying ppl at top have made right captain choices and cashed in on points

            Wigan/Everton = Cameos that don't really count.

            Newcastle...assisted a goal
            Tottenham...assisted a goal

Always in involved so far when he starts. I'm being tongue in cheek about it above but it's somewhat true...I'd just prefer him to be a reliable captain when times are not so good.

Aguero is basically the next best thing to RVP but he's rotated with 3 other world class strikers...I don't see RVP having much competition from Chicho or Welbeck who are being severely overshadowed so far. Aguero would bring more captain anxiety right now.

It's just nonsensical to think he's droppable because of tough opposition...he plays for the strongest attacking team in the league...and he is THE striker up front...

I'm just making the point that Fergie won't be underestimating Stoke so it has to be their strongest side...rotate the rest but not RVP/Rooney when they need to get the win.

Exactly, so why stick with a player that will only get a goal when you have lots of mid-buget strikers firing them home and with good fixtures?

I think you need to understand that nobody is saying that RvP will not score or be droped, but at the time there are far better options aat a better price... and when the right time comes get him again!

I couldn't be bothered selling for a short fix...that's what my other two strikers are there for...mid-budgets that will score goals hopefully. People are saying he wont score and will be rested...I've seen it.

It's a bit of a myth that all the mid-budget strikers are bringing home the goods...last weekend there wasn't many was there! The point is their returns over the season will be much more random than RVP. Plus picking the 3 best mid-budget strikers is hard work in itself is it not?

For the record I don´t think he will be rested, not at all.

Next 3 fixtures will be tough for RvP, and what I´m saying is, why not play another 2 mid-budget-in-form-players till then and switch after...plus it will give people the time to see how Rooney and RvP will work together imo.

I think it would a disaster to start them...RVP would only have to come on and save the game. I'm not saying they're both bad players...I just think they are not on form nor are they reliable. Welbeck showed such naivete against Newcastle...and Chicarito has been poor the last year or so.

i brought in rvp in gw2 and captained him against fulham when everyone was saying rooney would start and rvp wouldnt and that he was overpriced! then i captained him against southampton for his hatrick and then all the doubters jumped aboard the ship! some people never learn imo, i'll be keeping rvp because he will finish up the top point scorer in the game and tho he might get the odd rest here and there he is 100% gonna repay you! and he will play agaisnt stoke, better chance of being rested in europe with utd basically guaranteed to top that group! and in terms of rooney "running the show", that can only suit rvp imo, rooney seems to be playing deeper so his game time will provide rvp with more chances e.g. the cluj game = rvp 2 goals, rooney 2 assists

Britton or Mikel have the same returns wich are none or the odd 1point clean sheet for Mikel

Mannone in a WC team is a bit risky when Szczesny comes back.

      Rest looks good.

          Gibbs or Foster maybe.

I want a Citeh midfielder too. Don't think I can afford Silva so looking at Nasri or Yaya?

Yaya will be consistent but doubt he will score big much unless played as highest of a midfield 3.

I'm thinking of gambling on Nasri. Mancini seems to have faith him and he has been a consistent fantasy scorer.. Thoughts?

I could do Tevez > Berba then get Silva in

Has anyone noticed that EPL games now seem to have some 3D cameras that enables one to view replays like in Fifa, where you can move the camera to view the action from different perspectives? E.g. http://www.footytube.com/video/west-ham-united-arsenal-oct06-134712 (forward to the 10th min)

Over the weekend, our local channel also showed a similar 3D replay showing the New v MU game, showing that the ball marginally crossed the line for the "goal". Looks similar to the Hawkeye technology used in tennis.

Is this something new? Anyone have more information about this?

Not so much wondering who made it, as how it's done.. It seems they have software to stitch together multiple camera angles to create a 3D model, perhaps like the new Apple Maps.

i am stuck.. cant afford to swap Demel for anyone.. dont need to swap Fed as Migs got good fixtures for the foreseeable. Dyer should start accordin to Swans forums and i think he's a very good benchwarmer.. Dont have money to swap Fellaini to anyone explosive(Mata, HBA, Silva etc). And i got 2 Free Transfers.. Assumin everyone gets out of the internationals unscathed is it time for me to swap out Rvp in order to upgrade elsewhere(Demel to Baines, Fellaini to Mata etc).. would get Berbs in for Rvp most likely. Beg - Foster
    Baines - Rafael - Cuellar - Demel - Davies
    Hazard - Caz - Pienaar - Michu - Sterling
    Tevez - RVP - Lambert

2 FT, 0.1 in the bank.

I have to downgrade somewhere to get dimitar, so was thinking
    Hazard > Mata
    Lambert > Berbatov?

Any other ideas would be helpful!

Any reason not to do Hazard - Cazorla right now?

Yes. I'm sure some of your players are in the internationals.

Fair point but I'm sitting on 2 frees so I can afford the risk. I think it's a transfer I'd probably do for a hit anyway.

only reason to do it is if u can't afford caz after he goes up in price. otherwise wait as .1 or even .2 isn't worth the risk.. he could get injured (realise he s not going to play for Spain but u never know) also u may have other problems to fix

If you can afford him after price rises. you should wait. Otherwise, just do it.

Hmm sounds like the concensus is to wait, but cash is pretty tight and like I said above I've got 2 frees and I think I'd still do the transfer for a hit anyway, so international injuries prob won't change anything. If I get lots of injuries in the internationals then I'll just wildcard anyway.

Taken the risk - I want to get him as cheap as possible.

    A) Berbatov and Silva or
    B) Tevez and Nasri

Opinions on Nasri as a prospect in general?

nope, Caulker has Chelsea Gw8, you still have time to wait & see when BAE comes back & what AVB will do

But don't you think Jenks' first team spot is under threat as Sagna has recovered from his injury. I'll bench Caulker for the Chelsea match, but isn't he a better choice than Jenks now?

Jenkinson has a risk when Sagna comes back but i dont think it's pressing transfer you have to do atm.
Caulker - you even dont know if he's nailed on when BAE is fit

Anyone doing Haz ➡ Caz before the price rise tonight?
Arsenal have the fixtures in their favor, but Hazard is a class act. I'm still undecided.
    Anybody got any advice?

I swapped haz for caz last night. I'll be handing him the armband this weekend against Norwich.
