John Terry has confirmed he will not be appealing against the four-match ban imposed by the FA for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand last October. The Chelsea skipper had until 6pm this evening to make his decision but released the following statement earlier this morning:

“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone for the language I used in the game. Although I’m disappointed with the FA judgment, I accept that the language I used, regardless of the context, is not acceptable on the football field or indeed in any walk of life. As I stated in the criminal case, with the benefit of hindsight my language was clearly not an appropriate reaction to the situation for someone in my position. My response was below the level expected by Chelsea Football Club, and by me, and it will not happen again.”

Terry’s suspension will now take place with immediate effect. He is set to miss three league games – this weekend’s trip to Spurs, a home clash with United and the visit to Swansea – in addition to a Capital One Cup tie against United on October 31.

Domestically, he will next be available on November 11 for Liverpool’s visit to the Bridge, though Terry can participate in the Champions League away and home clashes against Shakhtar Donetsk on October 23 and November 7 respectively.

The news is likely to boost Gary Cahill’s first-team chances over the short-term, at least. The former Bolton man has started just one of the last four league matches, whereas David Luiz has featured in the first XI in the last five for Roberto Di Matteo’s side – a run of matches which has seen the Blues concede just twice.

Di Matteo also has the option of moving Branislav Ivanovic to the centre and handing new boy Cesar Azpilicueta a start at right-back; the summer signing climbed off the bench against Norwich in Gameweek 7 for his league debut. Whether Di Matteo will give Azpilicueta his first start against Spurs or United is perhaps debatable, though; the smart money seems to be on Cahill slotting in alongside Luiz as Chelsea look to maintain their position at the top of the position in their skipper’s absence.

After next week, would you do:

    Suarez, Lambert ➡ ➡ Berbatov, Jelly/Giroud?

To me, Berba is almost a must-have and i'd have a week to decide on Jelly or Giroud.

Not convinced on Berba's fixtures, especially if you're missing one of his better ones this week.

Anyone else reckon there's not much in fixtures these days and it's far more about a players form. Especially when some of the big guns now get rested for the easier fixtures.

If anything it might be going in reverse, easy fixtures might be reason not to select a big name?

There are a few exemptions to this but, just a thought.....

I think there's definitely something in the 'avoiding rests' element of that - but at the same time, look at the hattricks scored so far this season; both big guns, both vs promoted clubs. So it's still a big factor. I agree it's much more important to you mid/cheap spots - guys playing for teams that you know they'll be picked for week in week out. Spotting a kind run of fixtures is still important there I think.

Bugger Ramirez potentially not being far away from a return has buggered me up.

    Plan was Ramirez > Kebe
    Fellaini > Ben Arfa/Nasri/Kagawa

As Fellaini was dropping and hadn't decided on other transfer did Fellaini > Kebe last night.

Not only did Fellaini not drop, Ramirez could be back soon.

I've made a tiny huge mistake.

Thoughts on my team for this GW please? (especially Demel or McAuley to start - see below).
    Jussi
    Cole, McAuley, Mertesacker
    Hazard, Cazorla, Michu, Noble
    RVP(c) Tevez Berba(vc)
    Subs: Fed, Maloney, Demel, Bertrand
    £0.4 bank, 0 FT

Would you start Demel over McAuley, despite doubling up on Hammers defenders?
RVP or Berba for capt will be an 11.29am Saturday decision, but RVP has it for now.

    Cheers

Nice team, Ferris. Maybe play MacAuley for that sniff of added goal threat. We all saw Hart flapping around yesterday. Not water tight yet City by any stretch 🙂

And I think Stoke have done enough to push me toward captaining one of Berbs or Cazorla over RVP.

Thanks Limpar - so glad now, having done Yaya>Caz and Podolski>Berba, that I was talked out of WCing earlier last week!

I've a hunch WBA may get something against City - your point about Hart is a good one and they've looked stretched on many and occasion already.

Just when I thought the capt decision was looking easy you through Cazorla's hat into the ring...

I'm quote surprised at the mass exodus out the door of Fellaini... he's only going to miss one game and then has a beautiful string of fixtures. I'll be honest I did think of shipping him this week, but think he's a player that requires a little patience for now. There's even been whispers in the wind of him starting this weekend, where has this come from?!

I had no choice, I gained .2m on him so had to let him go before the fall. I don't see him as essential when I have Pienaar either. I just got him in my WC to ride the value rise and to give him a go in those good fixtures. Alas it was a poor gamble but I made some money.

If he misses the match this weekend he should be the same price I bought him for by the time he plays Liverpool. So swings and roundabouts...

    A theory:

Given the fluctuations in form/fixtures that occur throughout the season with the top teams, is it a good idea to have just 1 attacking player from each:

    E.G

Mids: hazard Cazorla Piennar Sterling Yaya

    Forwards: Defoe/ Ade Rooney Ba

This way you don't get caught short when fixtures turn nasty or form dips

I like doubling up on a team when they've got a great run. Having Baines + Pienaar recently has been good. Also if you pick a pair like Mata + Torres, Gerrard + Suarez, Silva + Tevez (for example) - you'll they can end up assisting each other, or finishing eachother's assists. Doubling up the points - so you sort of end up 'captaining' a team, rather than a player. Kind of.

      here is my plan.
      in this order
if any of them get injured then swap for berba
if tevez doesn't play this weekend then Tevez>Berba
if rvp doesn't get any goal/assists then RVP>Berba
if tevez doesn't get any goal/assists then tevez>Berba
if rvp and tevez get loads of points then pour yourself a beer and relex for another week
