A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

            Fair enough 🙂

It was a really tough call, but I'm almost certain someone said he was thinking of benching Mata (he had a really good remaining 7), and I said go ahead with it....I just hope Bale was one of the mids, so Mata would have come on as a sub.

Maybe you do, they didn't really threaten much from the left hand side. Lennon did run a show, though if Bale was there, I could see us getting attacked from everywhere. And with Vert behind him, it just looks like one of the best left hand pairs in the league after Baines and Pienaar maybe.

      Slight repost here

      Mata = a poor man's Hazard

Hazard is playing (consistently) as the second most advanced player. On pens when Lamps isn’t on the pitch (1 in 2 games). An unbelievable talent, will only get better as the season progresses.

Mata is a great player, i just prefer Hazard in the long run. Whilst also ignoring Mata's strengths 😀

I am sure Mata, and Hazard will share most of the points.....Something similar to Rooney and RVP. You just gotta pick one, and stick.

I think Hazard will end up leaving Mata in his wake by season's end. Even though Haz has done very well he is actually yet to fully explode.

Hazard seems to be invisible for large stretches of he game compared to Mata. I disagree. But if you want to convenient yourself that having Hazard is a good move, then have at it.

I agree he does seem to go missing for parts of the game. He is always still very involved though, and i forgot to mention he has most corner kick duties. It's a long old season..

He might be advanced but he isn't in the middle and he isn't as involved as Mata.

Yeah Mata definitely seems more involved, he's a seriously good player, instrumental. Still though, Haz with set pieces and possible pens swing it for me. We haven't seen the best of Hazard yet.

      I have a cunning plan.

To go the opposite direction of everyone and get Aguero and De Gea in.

Radical or stupid? I reckon De Gea at his current price is a steal, *if* he holds his spot.

Aguero should start the next 4 at least before his next rest imo, SWA, whm, TOT, AST. We all know about his home form.

True, poor phrase there. Should be "I have a risky" plan.

I think as United Keeper he represents great value, if he holds his spot.

          Big if.

btw guys if anyone didn't see the United v Stoke match, look out for an incredible save from Begovic to deny Evans in the 2nd half.

Also, Welbeck maybe as unreliable as Suarez, could have had a bagful today, and should have got me a Rafa assist

      Alright lads..

      Foster, Bego
      Baines, Gallas, Saylor, Hughes, Demel
      Hazard, Santi, Bale, Pienaar, Sterling
      Tevez, Ba, Berba

Want Aguero but will be for a hit (Tevez+Hazard --> Aguero+Mata) seems a bit sideways to me..

Any ideas on what to do with my FT??
