A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    I have 2 FT's, is it worth doing:

    Rangel, Hazard, Tevez to

    (Defender up to 7.0), Mata, Ba

    Managed to keep Tevez for this long and he's got a great points tally but so much doubt over him!

    Swansea's fixtures are probably the most horrific I've seen. They will barely get a sniff until Christmas. Bearing in mind their recent dip, I fear for their safety. I fancy Michu will get enough points to justify his presence but anyone with a defensive player should get shot as soon as possible. It's has the makings of a car crash.

        I was thinking of getting Adel in for Maloney GW9 JK, he is a class act but Hughes is such a muppet you don't know if he is nailed on, he starts Shaun Wright-Phillips ahead of Adel and Junior Hoilett for some reason, the mind boggles

    Bit knee-jerky, but do people consider Sterling to be near enough essential?

    Obviously he's not gonna be one for the massive hauls, but for his price, his (pretty much) guaranteed gametime with Borini out injured, and his position, he's certainly great value.

    If I get Adel I will go without Stoke coverage Would also be -8 unless I forget Davies to Wilson. Maybe Adam Johnson will change my mind tommorrow. Just wondering if it's too much effort for a player who could just as easily get 2 points. Lennon is in great form.

    Massive dilemma on my hands and the worst part is that I only *just* have the money meaning I need to make the transfers tonight before the price rises.

    So, I'm going to be making the Rangel to Wilson transfer with Swansea's poor defence and fixtures which frees up 2.0m in the bank. However, I have to 2 players to transfer out in Michu (tough fixtures, great form) or possibly Lambert (poor form, rotation risk, good fixtures) and a few combinations to work with:

    A) Michu -> Barfa (-4pts, 1.0m)
    B) Michu -> Mata (-4pts, 0m)
    C) Lambert -> Berbatov/Long (-4pts, 1.2/2.2m)
    D) Michu -> Barfa, Lambert -> Berbatov/Long (-8pts, 0.2/1.2m)

              He's injured and even if he is fit in time, he is far from guaranteed to start + Michu has a terrible run of fixtures so it makes since to get rid of him. Id upgrade tevez to aguero ahead of yaya to silva... Just my opinion though, could be wrong.

                I know you said depending on fitness but I think even if he is fit, he wont be guaranteed a start or if he does start he most likely wont finish. Bit harsh on Yaya to say he a none entity fantasy wise, he's their top scoring midfielder this season so far!
