A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ditch Fella and get PIenaar or someone else instead?
Ditch Lambert and get Berba or someone else

Guthrie started today so not wasting 0.5 on Kebe. Guthrie can stay as 5th mid.

I can do Hazard to Mata or Bale. Infact I can take Hazard + Michu---->Bale + Mata for -4 with nothing left only if I hit confirm now but I wont do that as I have Demel, Nelsen and Davies. That isnt positive going forward so Mata is not viable for me.

I can have Caz,Bale,Mata,RVP,Pienaar,Crouch and Berba in. Though it'd take a hit. You think I should? Noble has got me points today, but West Ham aren't going to win the penalties every week, so I can't really start him for Michu.

It is a good hit IMO. How much does it leave ITB, need to do it now?

For me Michu + Hazard---->Bale + Mata for -4 leaves nothing ITB. With my pants defence I don't think I can afford to take Mata. What you think, team linked below.

Has anyone else got so 'in to' fantasy football, that they've had a conflict of interest with your club?

For e.g.: Rather then being happy when your team has scored, you've actually been a bit pissed off because someone your playing in H2H has him as captain or you'd just sold that player that gameweek?

With Fletcher Ba HBA Baines and Pienaar to go...I'd imagine that's more players than most players in the world have to play? At least ones taking it seriously...I hope they can get me more than 10 points combined!

I'd be happy if one pulled out with an injury as I've got Sterling first sub!

I'm thinking of doing HBA > Mata tonight as while HBA's fixtures are favourable...I have Ba to cover them and Mata is literally essential this season. He is one of the most creative and brilliant players the Premier League has. His record of attacking returns for a midfielder is insane and it's impossible to ignore.

I know it's Man Utd at home next but I'm thinking long term here...and he could be 9.5m within two weeks. So I need to act fast. Mata is an absolute bargain at 8.9 and I don't see HBA matching his returns over the next 10.

    Thanks for listening.

His record in previous seasons...last year with Chelsea and at Valencia...look at his record for assists for instance. You will notice a terrifying pattern. He has increased his goal threat too this season as Chelsea are only playing Torres up front and don't play your conventional style of lob it up to a striker football. It's all about the midfielders and playing samba soccer.

He is in the Fabregas mould except even better imo. He will score more than Fabregas!

Past record he was far from essential. Essential is RVP from last season = if you didn't have him you were left behind. Mata may actually turn out to be essential, but all I'm saying is you have no proof, even on previous record, that he is essential. And IMO he is just in great form at the moment, and others at the start of the season argued Hazard is essential but since then he has proved to be far from it.

The flavours in FPL are changing from week to week. Players are going in and out of form so regularly that there's not enough transfers to cover the inconsistencies.

Let me guess, the current WC template now includes Mata and Noble but no sign of Santi, Berbatov, Routledge that were all the craze last week.

hey, for all your mata love, what do you reckon this:

I have already taken a hit for begovic and Bale

is it worth taking another 8pts. hit for
        A.cole>Wilson,
        Yaya>mata.

only thing holding me back is yaya looking more and more attacking,
        what you reckon?

I know what HBA offers...I just don't see how losing out on Mata at 8.9 is worth seeing how HBA gets on. HBA is a good option but he wont deliver every week. He is inconsistent in FPL and just does not play in a team as class as Chelsea.

I know what to expect with HBA...I think he's an amazing player...but he's not as good value as Mata right now...It's a tough decision but I think I need to get Mata in while I can or lose out.

Ba is Newcastle cover for me and will likely equal if not better HBA's output over the good fixtures they have. Have I convinced you? Or do you think I'm barmy?
