A busy day packed full of articles is brought to a close by our Friday evening regular. As always, we roll out a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s 11.30 deadline, with only one of our featured three owned by more than 1% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers…

Arouna Kone

Wigan’s summer signing from Levante arrived at the DW with plenty expectation heaped on his shoulders. Kone produced 15 goals and four assists in a sensational La Liga campaign last term, helping his side upset the odds and earn a sixth place finish in the Spanish top flight. So far, the Ivorian has been key to the Latics’ attacking forays, playing a part in five of their eight strikes, with three goals and a couple of assists already accrued.

In the FPL game, the 6.5 priced Kone has resultantly racked up 35 points, earning almost five points per start, but, despite returning a point more than the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Kone has an ownership of just 0.8%. In the Sky Sports game, he also has impressed – priced at 7.7, he is joint-fifth for forwards, with 41 points already returned. Further analysis of the stats shows Kone has been involved in four of Wigan’s five home goals this term – with visitors West Ham failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four matches, the Ivorian could be a decent punt this weekend for those Fantasy managers looking for something a little different for their third striker slot.

Samir Nasri

With David Silva ruled out due to a hamstring problem and Yaya Toure likely to play deeper due to injuries and suspensions to others, we’re rolling the dice on the Frenchman ahead of City’s home clash against Swansea. The former Arsenal man has only started two home league matches this term, with wildly contrasting fortunes; the season opener with Southampton harvested a goal, assist and maximum bonus points for a 12 point FPL haul, while QPR’s visit to the Etihad in Gameweek 3 resulted in nothing more than a two point return.

Nasri brings decent form into the Swans’ showdown tomorrow evening, though; having recently returned from a hamstring injury, he grabbed his side’s only goal in Wednesday’s disappointing defeat at Ajax. Fantasy managers may have doubts over Roberto Mancini’s starters up front for this one but Nasri looks nailed-on to begin the game; priced at 8.2 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he has just 4.8% ownership and could flourish against a side that has shipped an average of two goals per game over the last six fixtures, as the champions go in search of their fourth straight victory.

Brett Holman

Finally, we end on a real punt; the Australian international is the definition of a differential, with a mere 0.1% FPL ownership thus far. Holman – who arrived in England on the back of a campaign that harvested four goals and 10 assists for AZ Alkmaar in 2011/12 – has yet to produce any attacking returns this term but, both in terms of creativity and threat, has been one of Aston Villa’s most impressive performers so far ; a fact acknowledged by Paul Lambert only a fortnight ago, with the former Norwich boss saying:

“Brett’s been unlucky not to score, but he’s playing really, really well at this time. He’s not shy to have a shot on goal and he’s a creative player. I always think if creative players can make things happen and score a goal or maybe slide the odd ball through, then you’ve got a player on your hands. It’s important we share the goals around. We need that threat but Brett’s all-round game is good at the minute, really good. He’s got energy to burn, and he’s a top lad as well. If he keeps going the way he’s going he’ll have a really good season. He’s got a great desire for the game, a great enthusiasm for the game. Aston Villa are fortunate to have him.”

Priced at 5.6 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, Holman plays host to a Norwich City side that have conceded 11 goals in their first four games on the road. If Lambert is to get the better of his former employers, tomorrow would be the perfect time for the summer signing to start producing.

What better way to prepare for the shocks of this week and the sinking feeling of hindsight than by looking at what we thought last week? Here's a repost of last week's Scout Picks and how they did...

Mark Schwarzer gets the nod between the sticks ahead as Fulham prepare to welcome Villa to the Cottage. The Australian has produced a clean sheet in two of his three home games already and with the visitors scoring just twice in four road trips, defensive returns look a strong possibility for Martin Jol’s side tomorrow.

    SCORED 6

Leighton Baines continues in the Scout Picks with a trip to struggling QPR on the agenda. Everton may have registered just one clean sheet in their last six but Baines’ attacking threat shows no sign of abating – he has produced six or more points in five of the first seven Gameweeks. As always, his creativity will be crucial against a side that have shipped 16 goals already this season.

    SCORED 2

Rafael’s potential at both ends of the pitch earns the United right-back a place. Stoke arrive at Old Trafford having failed to score on the road since Gameweek 3 and with a couple of goals already accrued over his six appearances, the Brazilian looks a strong prospect against the Potters this weekend.

    SCORED 1

Having returned his first clean sheet of the season last time round, Glen Johnson keeps his place in the Scout Picks ahead of Reading’s visit to Anfield. Going forward, the full-back has offered plenty threat so far for Brendan Rodgers’ side but only has a single assist to show for his endeavours; the Royal’s visit could well offer him the chance to produce tomorrow.

    SCORED 6

Steven Pienaar is the second Everton player to get the nod – a clear sign of our faith in David Moyes’ outfit. Having recently retired from international duties, the South African will be fully refreshed for the weekend trip to QPR and has either scored or assisted in three of his four away games so far; averaging 6.5 FPL points per road trip, Pienaar looks poised to heap further misery on Mark Hughes’ side at Loftus Road.

    SCORED -1

Michu gets one last throw of the dice before Swansea’s fixtures stiffen. The Spaniard returned to goalscoring ways against Reading last time round and has found the net in three of his four home fixtures – up against a Wigan side that have conceded at least twice in five of the first seven Gameweeks, the Swans midfielder should be afforded further chance for attacking returns tomorrow afternoon.

    SCORED 8

We’ve opted for Kevin Nolan ahead of West Ham’s home showdown with Southampton. Similar to Michu, the Hammers skipper has also found the net in three of his four home appearances and is set to welcome a side that has conceded 12 goals in just three away matches so far. As Sam Allardyce looks to steady the ship after the Gameweek 7 defeat to Arsenal, Nolan’s contribution looks key.

    SCORED 12

Santi Cazorla is nailed-on ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Norwich. The Gunners playmaker has been in sensational form of late, particularly on the road – he has produced attacking returns and picked up FPL bonus points in his last three away trips, averaging more than nine points per game over those fixtures, and is up against a Canaries side that have shipped nine goals in their last two matches. A real captaincy contender this weekend.

    SCORED 2

Robin Van Persie is another obvious choice. Rested for one of Holland’s recent World Cup qualifiers, the former Arsenal skipper welcomes Stoke to Old Trafford tomorrow – while the Potters have been particularly resilient this term, with just five goals conceded, Van Persie has either scored or assisted in all five of his league starts for the Red Devils so far.

    SCORED 11

The fit-again Dimitar Berbatov earns an instant recall to the Scout Picks ahead of a home clash with Villa. With two goals and an assist over his two starts for the Cottagers so far, in addition to maximum FPL bonus points in both games, the Bulgarian looks another armband option against a side that have picked up a single point from four away games under Paul Lambert.

    SCORED 2

Luis Suarez is the third and final forward ahead of Liverpool’s Anfield showdown with Reading. With the visitors yet to produce a clean sheet this term, Brendan Rodgers’ patched-up side look to have the perfect opportunity to record their first home win of the new campaign – bearing in mind Suarez has scored or assisted six of the Reds’ nine goals so far, he looks a decent punt for returns.

Mmmm, even as a Boyce owner I wouldn't say he had to go in the picks. There's all kinds of matchups when you can identify weak spots for a player to profit from, but most of the time nothing comes of it. Remember Boyce scored a pretty unusual goal from a pretty unusual position.

But I do think he has been overlooked and am keen for it to stay that way 😆

The less time you spend on FPL the more you're influenced is the trend I see. I saw a guy earlier who told me he brought in 6 scout picks in his wildcard just because they were there and got 82 points. He is totally convinced that they can do no wrong.

Little bet I've gone for tomorrow:

Benteke to score and Villa to win

    AND

Crouch to score and Stoke to win.

£5 stake, £91 return. Easy money, surely...?!

Don't know what I'd do if I had tevez. I'm going bale over aguero because he started midweek and I'm worried he won't start. Definitely would pick aguero over bale if start was confirmed tho

I've decided to go with Tevez. I think there's probably a 10% chance he doesn't start and a 10% chance that he comes off at 60 minutes with no points. The way I figure it, that means there's an 80% chance he'll get points. Good enough for me.
