The FA Cup may often be regarded as the nightmare of the Fantasy Manager with distraction, exhaustion and injury but a few consequences that can unwittingly cripple their teams with no regard for the many hundreds of thousands of Carlos Tevez owners, and me, just hoping he gets a nice old rest this weekend, for example.

What it does allow us is a little extra time to simmer down and take in what has happened in Fantasy up until now, and, after hectic schedule and illness-based roadblocks, a little time can be spent looking at the goings-on in all things league a little over halfway through the season…

Fantasy Premier League

The Good…

Big Poppa is, of course, our first order of merit and the Fantasy Football Scout league is firing on all cylinders. The snow may have knocked a few folks off course but calm heads prevail with a nice gap between first and second in the League of Leagues. Luckily enough though, it’s our dilligent subscribers to Scout Membership who fill that second spot.

Mark Rutter and The Rutz Nutz take pride of place as number one manager in the number one league in the world, with over five and a half thousand envious managers looking on with equal parts scorn, pride and jealousy. He’ll also be getting 18 points off his bench come Wednesday evening, the lucky swine.

Hot on Mark’s heels are the likes of Nathan Turner, Celso Loureiro, Steven Laverick and James McCall as the top five is rounded out. More commonly known posters amongst the Scout Community such as Camzy, Grimaldi and Jafalad all continue their fights not far behind too. One of Fantasy Football Scout’s older friends Spiderman returns to his 08/09 form and may once again fight until the end for that crown. Sour grapes also start early as some chap named I’m Not Marshal Foch gets frontpage action at 36th in the Scout league.

As for our members, we don’t want to let anyone miss their chance for a spotlight action. December saw The Karachi Kid clinch the monthly prize with a slender one point win over board poster Cunning Stunts in a hotly contested affair. Back in November, Scott Woods pulled out a healthy lead over second place to join the realms of champions while even further back in time Terry Goodwin won the October contest – our own Granville not far off calls of a conspiracy in 8th for that month. All three of the aforementioned winners won a free £25 bet with Paddy Power for their efforts.

The Head to Head leagues are starting to build a bit more shape to them as victories continue to push the men at the top to greater heights, starting with Comfy Coxy at the top of the whole tree holding off Russman and Roger C. I’m Not Marshal Foch pops in again to stick the knife into my season, putting me to shame with his first place in our second Head to Head league, holding off his good personal friend tinoss and the gallic poster gros. Head to Head three is as close as two very close things with a four way tie between Mark, Defoe Rules, Mr Blonde and Anorak split only by rank. The father of all things Scout Mark doth win that war in 6396th place.

A clear leader is seen in our fourth league as denial has a handy cushion of more than two games over closest rivals Just One More Thing and Wes. League five sees Don Corleone (in second) sleeping with The Fish in first while plucky Granville once again looms large. Cesc, Drogs and Caroll is our sixth leader after twenty-one gameweeks, William Coventry and Don are trying their best to rattle him out of there.

Greghammer95 (or whatever he calls himself now) leads the last of our seven select entry league as EasyLuckyFree challenges alongside da Beeeez, my colleague and fellow scout getting his match timing just right to take his team ranked in the 400 thousands to third place. The most competitive league, and also most requiring of luck, is our Reserve League and by merit of ranking alone Kenny Coffey sits pretty ahead of Graeme Matthew (who has stuck around since September) and Evan Donaldson.

The Bad…
Sticking out like a sore thumb are those managers at the bottom of our leagues. Those who think they are doing badly can perhaps afford a rare smile by comparison, while if you are one of the few afforded this unfortunate glimpse perhaps it’ll provide a kick up the posterior. I sure hope it will, not least because I have to give my own team an unfortunate mention.

The seven managers at the bottom of our Head to Head leagues are BigAdz, Andy (that’s me, what pride!), Bedknobs and Boomsticks, Sojourners, Honkey, Davysteen and pewty. We must all try harder or the threat of relegation currently looming large will likely turn to reality.

Tom Sanders gets the wooden spoon in the overall league with a score of -88 plastered against his name. Something tells me he just might have a different agenda. Or a screw loose.

The Ugly… (otherwise known as the Scout team)

Anyone wanting to compare how their side is doing to those in the Contributor’s League can do just that. For a league with only a dozen managers a ranking of 188 sees the likes of Mark, Granville, Sir Paulos, Pure Olivia and, running away leader, Foch undoubtedly proud of their pooled rankings. Fresh faced Scout johnfinlay gets a mulligan thanks to being new to all these proceedings so the likes of da Beeeez, Greek Fan and myself at the bottom are already looking ahead to July. Where would you drop in were you part of this “elite” breed?

Metro Fantasy Football

Our experiment in the wares on offer from the folks over at Metro sees a fan of Pink Floyd sitting pretty at the top of the Scout League and in tenth place overall, very much in the running for the prizes on offer from our free newspaper. All in all just another brick in the wall for Peter Jones. The first three familiar faces I see (apologies if I missed you) attempting to muster up a fight against the leaders are Aldershot Rejects, Big Dunc and Sir Paulos – another two successful enough members of the Scout team in the top 500 overall and very capable of a push on further.

European Adventures

The midweek continental adventures start in the Champions League where the best of the best (and Bursapoor) competed against each for six gameweeks of group stage action. The Scout League is celebrating first spot with a healthy lead as does it’s best manager: Mario Jiang. A couple of our sites more known posters (d2b and Waldaz) are trying their hardest in fourth and fifth place to head into the knockout stages with a coup on the cards. Down in 53rd place I haven’t given up hope of retaining the title of Scout champion in this here league, as unlikely as it may be.

The Fantasy Managers with a real hard edge as nothing more than gluttons for punishment are the small band competing in Europa League fantasy football. Many real managers seem to use the Europa League as a chance to rest and rotate their squads, which makes picking your team here devilishly hard. The manager having coped best so far with these issues is Akers, my fellow Scout and proprietor of our Cup competitions, with a healthy lead. The top ten also includes well known posters such Dick Fran Dyke, PDM Allstars and MFaulkner (who hasn’t even made a transfer yet. Shocking.) hoping the leader will trip up soon. On a personal note, I’m sorely disappointed that I won’t be able to up my Borussia Dortmund ante from two to three of the players, a breath of fresh air sorely missed.

That’s pretty much everything well and truly covered for now, all things going to plan we’ll hopefully be seeing you sooner than the most recent gap in proceedings. Maybe I’ll have to climbed to 19th out of 20 too. One can dream.

    Thanks for the update Andy.

I’m planning on using my wildcard next week to sort out my defence and WC but the again i’m considering NOT using it.
    My midfield is:
    Nani Vdv Adam Fabs Nasri
Then for next week i’m going to sort out my defence and backline and trade one of my goalkeepers out but my team isnt that bad.

        Enrique to Rafael
        Robinson to Begovic
        Drogba to Berbatov
        Welbeck to Carroll
That was what i was thinking off as it sets me up nicely for the next few weeks.

Great post and I know that this is not a popular post, but I will repeated it, hoping for some feedback .

    Lads advice needed.

    Option 1:
Drogba and Barton out Fabregas (c) and Rodalega in – 4 point hit. Additional transfer for GW 24 one striker for the double. N Zog not included.

    Option 2:
Stay put this GW, difficult to pick a captain, could be Nasri or Drogs even VDV if I am inspired, but:
next GW double transfer Drogs and Barton out, Torres/Rooney/Berba in (Torres most probably) and save the point hit. But I think with next 2 and especially as a captain Fabregas will repay my gamble.

Option 3: F.ck it and wild card.

    Please which option and why?
    Cheers,

I understand your dilemma. Opt 1 is good. Your side is good though. Perhaps Vidic to rafeal this week. then barton and drogba to fabs and berbs if that works financially?

Im trying to avoid hits during the wildcard weeks as hardly anyone will be taking hits so the impact will be greater, maybe.

I also am thinking of WC next week but not in massive need of doing so, plan is I'm about 40 points clear in mini league, and I want to get extra breathing room. I also have 2nd WC so can use that in a later DGW.

Was considering getting Torres in but now not sure what to do with the situation. Is everyone staying well clear?, also who do you think are the best 2 strikers to accompany Carroll from next week? Im considering RVP and Rooney.

If you are not using your WC now, then when? I know things can change, but I decided to WC now and just tweak my team with free transfers before 27. I ended up with pretty much the same team I think I would have chosen with a WC later on. But then I am doing alot worse then you atm, so I felt I needed to WC now.

Well I will definitely have to use one before GW 27. My thoughts are keeping the other until someone catches me in the league :). I never though I would have made it this long without using WC but I have been able to get away with the odd 4 pointer here and there.

Yep Kolarov not a great option at the minute, you could go for a cheap defender and the other 4 are good, maybe a Evatt from blackpool due to DGW's and to warm bench in future and then use funds else where.

    BEST WILDCARD TEAM EVER.

Guys could you rate my team?

    Hart, Given
Campbell, King, Dunne, Upson, da Silva
    Giggs, Kompany, Mikel, Cahill, Palacios
    Chamakh, Bendtner, Van Persie

    Thinking behind it;

Gk's - I recon man city have the best defence in the league at the moment. If Hart doesn't play for whatever reason i'll have Given as first sub - 100% COVERAGE!

Campbell - Basically one of the best defenders ever in the prem so bound to get loads of points!

King - One of the best defenders in the league. END OF

Dunne - Got Shed loads of points last season.

Upson - plays for England so he must be good!

da Silva - really wanted a Sunderland defender but couldn't afford any of the other ones. When he does come on he's bound to get 6 points!

Kompany - OOP - Everyone always talks about out of position players. Found a gem here

Giggs - absolutely smashed it last season and like campbell one of the best players about. Bound to pick up loads of points

Mikel - 4.5m for a Chelsea midfielder? YES PLEASE

Cahill - Basically one of the most inform midfielders at the moment. With games against Liverpool and West Ham coming up is bound to smash it. Dunno why he didn't play against Spurs but i guess he was just being rested. 100% FRESH

Palacios - Figure if i'm going to increase the likelihood of clean sheets i need a defensive midfielder. Who better than Spurs midfield general Palacios!!!!

Chamakh, Bendtner, Van Persie - Basically want an Arsenal striker so figure the best thing to do is to get coverage of all three. That way i'll always have an arsenal striker playing - 100% COVERAGE!

guys bit left field but any crazies out there considering Fabs and....LAMPS in a wc team? you know its only a matter of time before he starts shinning/ar*ing/fluking them in....just a though especially for anyone who needs to take a risk.

would need to massively downgrade strikers though but how many are actually reliable now? Tev/Carroll/ Berb maybe

    shout/madness?

Erm id say no. What reliable cheap options are there? Carroll (injured) odem (bit off form) and bent (bit off form too) are probably the best options.

Not until he regains full fitness and some form for me.Nani,VDV and Cesc are nailed in so that leaves 2 spots I need open for rotation and form/fixture dependent players.
If he does hit some form I would downgrade Torres for him but not until he shows me he's got the minerals.
If you are playing catch up in a league it is a risk worth taking for sure.

In all seriousness, i've had Bale nearly all season, and he's just not consistant enough, well he consistantly gets 2's but you know what i mean.

I just dont buy this if you dont buy bale and he gets a decent score you go down loads. Its your team score that matters. Just make sure the balance is right.

I think thats only happened 3 times this season though. I had them both the two weeks they both scored well. After 2 good weeks of Bale getting decent scores i new that would be it for 6-7 weeks now. Ive clicked on about 8 peoples teams in the last 10 minutes and i didnt see Bale once. I dont know who's making up the 60% ownership but i dont think its many people on here.

Errr I see a flaw.. you're not going to keep that front 7 and Rooney that long, nevermind for the rest of the season since other strikers & mids will come in and out of form. Having someone like Harewood there gives ya less transfer flexibility.

I've done something similar but with DJ Campbell, so at least he can come in if needed. Play the same 5 in midfield and 2 up front each week, Campbell comes in if needed but I'll never hugely miss out on his points (if he pulls off a 10 or something) because of Adam. Had the same going earlier in the season with Barton on the bench, he came on for most of his key scores but whenever Carroll played there was no real worry on majorly missing out.

Anyone else hoping Liverpool get totally stuffed tomorrow after the way they villified Hodgson? Sure he made mistakes but you would think he was responsible for all of Liverpools ills. The rot set in years ago.
Hopefully he walked off with a nice payoff the likes of what some of his preening, sulking premadonna players get paid every week.
Would love it to see the messiah Dalglish in there and facing the same struggle.

vilified hodgson? you clearly haven't watched any of the liverpool games. i'm sure you'd love him to do what he did, at your club 😀 he was in no way a good fit for the club, it was pretty evident to anyone who follows football.

Nonsense pikka! I watched plenty. And I concede he struggled and made mistakes, said some dubious things, made some failed signings. So what? On day one he did not even recieve a welcome. Liverpool are an average side with an average manager, and are way off the level of your Arsenals, Tottenhams, Man Uniteds, Chelsea, etc. The glory days are in the past, for now. Ferguson did not make Man U successfull overnight.

As for him coming to my club, I had worse, Egil Ollson and 2 faceless Norwegian billionaires wrecked my club to the point they no longer exist as they should do, so I can emphasize with you if you are a red. MY team was destroyed. You are what, mid table? Woopy doos.

i agree liverpool are certainly not up there with united, arsenal, chelsea, city, spurs etc but we aren't as bad as hodgson has made us. He took a poor team from rafa and has made them even worse, almost a joke. The squad should be beating at home wolves, northampton, stoke, blackpool etc, to lose as many matches as he has done in such a short space of time is very poor. The fit just wasn't right for both parties. the tactics were even more terrible than the results, it is dire to watch. this same group of players played a very different approach a few months before, and its sad to see his ping pong tactics at LFC. Look at reina's distribution under the 2 different managers, very disappointing to watch this kind of football 🙁

Hey pikka, that's all true, I don't deny any of that. Do you really think Dalglish will wave a magic wand? Just feel sorry for him thats all. Cheer up, you will survive, unlike my Wimbledon.

I agree i don't think he will perform miracles but i do think he will do better than hodgson. hodgson had some significant failings in his time here, very poor signings, tactics, always playing players out of position, constant long balls to a lone striker etc. I do feel sorry for him, he is a pleasant guy and tried his best, but it just was not a good fit in so many ways. Sometimes this happens. I just hope we can get to the top 7 or 8 by the end of season. i also think hodgson is not able to attract big name signings, which is why he always goes for carlton cole types 🙂 If LFC have ambition, they need to have a boss who players will want to sign for, hodgson sadly was not a big enough profile for that.

I don't often want Utd to win, but I hope they absolutely massacre Liverpool tomorrow.
