Samir Nasri’s brilliant form this season has already seen him lauded as one of the favourites for the Player of the Year, with the Frenchman scoring fourteen times thus far, including nine goals in the Premier League. With Cesc Fabregas’ problematic hamstring continuing to plague him, Nasri took on the mantle as Arsenal’s star midfielder in the first half of the season, performing superbly in the Spaniard’s absence. He’s not been without his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) admirers either; Nasri has the third-highest ownership in the game at present, with only Gareth Bale and Andy Carroll finding a place in more Fantasy squads.

However, with Fabregas back fit and Robin Van Persie also re-emerging from the injury room to take his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI, is there a possibility of Nasri’s Fantasy potential diminishing? That’s the question many are asking as they ponder that winter wildcard right now. With a fit and ready Fabregas always guaranteed to produce the points, is the idea of two Gunners midfield men overkill?

In this latest Numbers Game article for Members, we analyse Nasri’s impact with and without Fabregas and Van Persie on the pitch, utilising our OPTA data to help provide some answers…

I'm thinking the same mate. Alex might be back soon and Ivanovic is preferred at RB I reckon. And, until then, Ancelotti seems to rotate bos and ferreira. Might be cos he's been injured though. Its a dodgy area, but maybe worth the risk for cheap Chelsea defence...

          yup

but dont think we can say that he has RB spot nailed but i would think that he will play RB until Alex is fit at least as Ferreira has been v poor.

Bosinwa hasnt been much better but he has added bonus of being better going fwd. If he could recapture form he had before injury he would be best RB in premier league. Its a big IF though.

          here's hoping.

But for FF point of view its a risk but could pay off if chelsea ever return to form.

Was he? I was told 85% anyway it was still a ballache whether mysterious or not. As MarknLard said a while back, this FPL would be far better if there was no information regarding transfer numbers given out. People would stop tw*tting around with transfers so much then.

Worried about it, very worried. No Tiote, hate the thought of Smith coming in - I wish Leeds would put a nostalgic bid in for him for us to get rid. Hopeful of Larsson signing though, damned sight better than Routledge!

He won the ball, its just by todays poncey standards that the challenge was deemed 'reckless'. Bah, Julian Dicks would never have had a career if he started today, and football would be much the worse for his absence. 🙂

Football this century is for jessies. Give me 80's 90's football anyday, he won the ball!
Anyway all this shite about you cant do a reckless tackle because people have slices of bread down their socks instead of shinpads and just paint their feet black instead of boots, bah! Did legs get broken more often in the 90's? No. Was the football more entertaining? Yes. Was there gloryboys dancing their way up the wings? Yes. Was there proper midfield battlers carving up said gloryboys for being too tricksy? Yes. Did this make the game better? YES

I want 4-3 with Adam scoring all four (assisted by Crainey for each) and Torres scoring a Konchesky assisted hattrick. That would be pleasing but a little unlikely. 🙂

Look at Arsenal's squad for example, most of it are injury prone. Look at United's squad for example, very few are injury prone.

              Obviously, there's always exceptions

Is that maybe because Arsenal keep the ball more, so are more likely to be tackled or fouled?

A lot of their players are also pretty small, so would be a lot more prone to tackles from the big brutes of Stoke or Blackburn.

Their "invinclbes" side was full of forgieners, yet didn't get injured as much, because they didn't play keep-ball as much and were on the whole a taller, more physical squad.

                    Yes horse.

The point I was trying to get at anyway, is that Wenger imo should go for a player tried and tested in the prem. Gary Cahill for example, someone who can stay fit. He's gone for foreign players, without knowing if they can cope in the prem and he's suffered from it.

Second comment of mine was wrong, yes, but it was poorly worded.

Am I right in thinking Wenger made a bid for Phil Jagielka in the summer? He was probably the only player Wenger thought was good enough and a realistic target.

Gary Cahill isn't injury prone as such, but is he eally good enough to play for a side challenging for the title?

Rio, Owen, Rooney, Hargreaves, O'Shea, Brown and Giggs all have dodgy injury histories and they're all from the UK/Ireland! There's no way you can say Arsenal's players are more injury prone than Utd's, or British vs foreigner, or any other combination.

                This is twaddle.

Rooney's not injury prone. I don't believe that breaking a metatarsal means your enjury prone, the niggles is what decides it for me. Hargreaves technichally English. Giggs is not injury prone.

And yes Rio, that's 1, sticking to the original point.

Beardsley in defence would be an amazing (oop)!

I'd hold fire on the wild card if i was you. Your team looks decent enough for this week so may as well save it for one of the DGW's.

I'm really hoping it's just pre-contract discussion posturing by Ashley. He wants to get his wages down and maybe is using the same 'I'll sell you' tactic as he did with Steve Taylor. I know generally sentimentality has bugger all to do with football movements but I honestly feel that Barton is loving his football at Newcastle and is clearly loved by the fans. Most clubs fans vilify him so maybe he would want to stay?
I really hope he does anyway, without a doubt the best English midfielder this season by miles.

I have used my wildcard, and I'm going with Van Persie, Fabs and Nasri for the time being.

I got RVP before his price rise too, it's a bit of a balancing act this.

Managed to hold off selling Baines until his price rise, then got Coleman in instead. Also got Baird and Elmo, hoping at least one of them goes up again for an extra .1m

Bah new football ponceyness. I remember Vinny Jones nearly halfing Steve McMahon at the start of the 88 cup final, and not a word said to him. That tackle basically won the game for Wimbledon.
