An action-packed first-half produced seven goals but United’s decision to shut up shop after the break means the net failed to bulge in the second 45. Reading’s cut-price assets make a persuasive case ahead of the double Gameweek, while Wayne Rooney bags a brace as the visitors move three points clear of City at the top:

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
Amongst the goals for the first time since Gameweek 8, Rooney produced his third double figure return in nine starts in this evening’s incredible match at the Madejski. Clearly, he’s still head of Robin Van Persie as United’s first-choice spot-kick taker and priced 2.0 less than the Dutchman, looks a real differential with an ownership of less than 7%.

Jonny Evans
The Irishman earned an assist for United’s converted spot-kick and maintained his recent steady form. Evans has now produced a goal, an assist, a clean sheet and three bonus points in the last three (an average of seven points per game), though with Nemanja Vidic possible returning in the midweek Champions League match with Cluj, would-be investors will be wary.

Adam Le Fondre
While Pavel Pogrebnyak continues to remain a peripheral figure for Brian McDermott’s side, Le Fondre’s eye for goal is clearly crucial to Reading’s attacking forays. His header from a Nicky Shorey corner took the score to 2-2 against United and was his third strike in four games – at 4.8, he served a timely reminder of his cut-price potential ahead of double Gameweek 16.

Nicky Shorey
He’s created chances aplenty for Reading over the last few matches and his corner kick duties highlighted the left-back’s cut-price appeal. A pair of assists against United will earn the 4.1 priced defender plenty new owners over the next few days ahead of the Royals’ double.

Hal Robson-Kanu
The winger earned a fourth consecutive start on the Royals’ right flank and shifted onto Fantasy radars by firing home the opener against United. With an assist also to his name over the last four, Robson-Kanu certainly looks likely to keep his place ahead of next week’s trips to Southampton and Sunderland.

Going Down

Rafael
Tormented on the flank by Jobi McAnuff, he picked up a booking and seemed unable to cope with the Royals winger. Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to sub him off after just 30 minutes will be a real worry for the Brazilian’s owners.

United Defence
Conceding for the first time in a match once again, Sir Alex Ferguson’s backline continued their dire defensive form. The midweek clean sheet against West Ham seems almost an anomaly – United have now shipped 12 goals on the road, just one less than Reading and, as Evans showed today, their defenders are relying on attacking returns to justify any sort of investment.

      people will say it is, but given the DGW record of defenders in recent times (BAE, Walker last year, Ivanovic this year) I say, no it isn't.

      Yes. He's also a midget which apparently wasn't helping his cause yesterday.

      Can't see Ferguson dumping him after one totally forgettable game though. I get the impression he's got a decent opinion of him.

              Tevez only scored a penalty, though. Not worth as much for PPI - I think approximately the same as an assist. That'll almost certainly put him behind Fellaini - and Baines/Dzeko assisted so they'll be in the mix too.

          What I'm saying is that it makes sense to captain a striker playing 180 minutes, I'm probably going for it regardless of his performance today. Also, the City defence away isn't that easy to penetrate.

    Which is better:

    A. Pienaar -> Sessegnon
    B. Pienaar -> Fellaini and Sterling -> McAnuff (-4)
    C. Rangel -> Davies and Pienaar -> Fellaini (-4)

    Never sure when to take hits or not, so could wait a week to do B or C

    Jussi – Mignolet
    Rangel – B Jones – Cuellar – Cameron – Shorey
    Pienaar – Sterling – Michu – Silva – Bale
    Suarez – Berbatov – RVP

    Ta muchly.

      So what are Bale owners doing if he is out for 1-2 weeks ?

      Will his price fall enough that selling to buy him back becomes a viable option ?? I got him at 9.4m so can only sell at 9.6, would lose a lot of value.

              Depends how much would you lose on doing Sterling? Liverpool has great fixtures so having 3 doesn't worry me so much. You have a tonne of cash so I'd upgrade Punchy and keep Sterling as the 5th mid. When you get tired of the pool or there fixtures stiffen then you will no doubt ship off Suarez or Enrique.

      But isn't the idea of Shorey that he'll get assists... How many goals can you expect from Morrison in the coming months?

      I'm tossing up between him and Shorey, but I feel Shorey is more secure and only 0.1 less, and he is on all set-pieces.

        It's the last line does it for me.. 90 mins in all of the last 6 seems pretty secure

          Gorkss played 90 in his previous what? 12 games? As McDermott said last week, they have 4 CB's so I'm not sure on rotation. Shorey worth the 0.1 extra for me.

        Granville, nice going for you and Mark again. Cream...top...all that jazz.

        What you think off Defoe? Spurs have nice fixt for gw 17-21. Not sure how long bale will be inj and how him possibly missing more then 1 game would effect Defoe.

    I'm guessing one at most for RvP, three for Michu and Fellaini...

      Check out Gopher's post at 9:19 above. All correct except RVP who must be an outside chance but with six goalscorers has a lot of competition and maybe one too many shots off target.

    Mancinis making all of us go nuts with the rotation I believe. Who do you think he will start next week?

    Aguero and Dzeko according to me.

        Maybe. But seeing United on setp pieces, Dzeko for sure. And Kun is pretty much his favourite baby.Until unless he decides to go with Kun on the left with silva, and Tevez Dzeko up front

    Just re-watching the defensive debacle of last evening. Lindegaard was number 1 culprit. Surely now DDG has got to come back.

      DDG hasn't been great from corners either - probably why Lindy got the nod in yesterday's game. But I'd agree with your thoughts.

      He was desperately poor, wasn't he. Very indecisive. Do you think Evans will feel the wrath of SAF and be given some gardening leave? I'm a bit worried, especially with Vidic's impending return....

      I think every United fan wants DDG, but considering how bad we are at set pieces, the last thing we need is a keeper we need to protect then.

      Still want DDG, but you can understand what Fergies thinking
