Manchester United’s 0-0 stalemate at White Hart Lane on Sunday may well have been two points gained given the controversial dismissal of Rafael, but the performance did little to dispel claims that Alex Ferguson’s side are struggling to wriggle into top gear.

Defensively Ferguson can rightly claim the draw with a vibrant Tottenham side as a triumph, but in attacking terms, United were bitterly disappointing.

With Fantasy Managers weighing up further investment in the United squad with Gameweek 24’s double fixture drawing closer, we use this latest Members article to take a closer look at the statistics from Sunday’s game and United’s performances over recent Gameweeks, to assess whether such a strategy really should be a priority and where our cash should be spent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      As a closeup on the replay, the second booking looks harsh. But if you watch it in real time, taking into account the changes of direction the Spurs players were moving the ball and the space BAE was going into, then it's definitely justified.

        Both cards were justified. The waving of the imaginary card and his reaction to the sending-off were just further evidence that not only does he need to learn how to tackle, he needs to grow up.

        Until United can rely on Rooney to score the goals, Berbatov has to play.

        Evra will at some point get a games rest, but that could be whenever, and it'll only be a one-off.

    Good article. Disagree on Berbatov vs Rooney though, I'd much rather have Berbatov. Out of those 13 Rooney attempts mentioned I remember at least five of them being so poor they were on the border to not counting as an attempt.

    Rooney also had a pass completion rate of 50% last game against Spurs and looked very confused, spraying 90 yard passes to Giggs every time he got the ball.

            MAD(inspector gadget?) you wanted that vtransfer plan, it's on the other page but here goes:

            looking at WCing GW26, looking at a big payoff GW27 while still having a decent squad for GW26 and two free transfers for GW28 and keeping in mind united and chelseas doubles in GW28

            Foster/Begovic

            Nani/VDV/Brunt/Adam/Fabs

            Nani(ww),VDV(BOL),Fabs(new)

            GW27

            Nani(MC),VDV(DGW),Fabs(DGW),Brunt and Adam(both DGW at home)
            RVP(DGW),Carroll(DGW)

            two free transfers:

            GW28-Begovic(WBA)
            Ivanovic(DGW),Rafael(DGW),Coleman(SUN)
            Nani(DGW),VDV(ARS),brunt->Malouda(DGW),Adam(ww)

    STOCKDALE
    EVRA KELLY Coleman
    Fabregas NANI ADAM N'ZOGBIA
    TORRES ROONEY BENT

    Subs: Foster, Murphy, Jara, Ferguson

    Would give me 9 for the DGW this week and then at least 8 for the 27 DGW. Bent would probably just be for this week, have the cash to do Bent > RVP for next GW. Figure i might as well get 6 games out of my strikers if possible. What ya reckon?

      It looks like you are creating a WC team based on 1 GW (i.e. this week) - in my eyes this is a mistake. Once you've had your points this GW you will be stuck with players like Stockdale, Evra, Hughes, Kelly, NZogbia, Torres, Bent (maybe Rooney) - none of whom I'd want in the coming weeks.

      Worst WC team I've seen yet.

        From what i can make of the fixtures that team would be good to go until at least GW28 which is about as long term as i've looked. I think the use in looking too much further than that is negligible. I'm guessing it might be worth reading my post again. Bent would be for one week only, i've no problem with being 'stuck with' Evra, Rooney, Torres and N'Zogbia. Who is Hughes?

        I had a similar comment about my WC team, which is heavily geared to this GW. Difference is I've got my original WC left so my plan is to use free transfers to prepare for GW27, then WC after that to get rid of dead wood like Stockdale and Djourou.

        Re: Stockdale, I don't care if he loses his place since I'll be playing Foster every week until my next WC. Ditto Kelly, who is unlikely to lose his place unless injured.

    Ok so VDV looked tired last weekend. And what has he been doing this week - training and resting. He's an athlete so expect him to be playing and performing this weekend. He looked pretty anonymous in lots of other games I've seen him in....that is until he unleashes a blistering free kick or runs onto one of Crouchy's knock downs.He stays in my team this week.

          We all want to see the Rooney of old, but "looks to be on the brink of an explosion of form" is stretching it a bit.

    I rarely ask for help here but this week is a causing me all sorts of grief. I have 3 Utd players but 2 of them are Rafael and Berbatov. My only liverpool player is Kyrgiakos. I've got about 3m in the bank. I'm seriously thinking of doing this 8 pointer:

    Berba -> Torres
    Nasri -> Simon Davies
    Kyrgiakos -> Vidic

    Leaving me with:

    Al Habsi
    Vidic Rafael Coleman
    Nani VDV Adam S. Davies
    RVP Tevez Torres

    (SUBS: Gordon, Kolarov, S.Taylor, B.Ferguson)

    I can't get Vidic in without ditching one Utd player. I could do Rafael -> Vidic as a straight swap for no hits but I fancy Rafael against Blackpool. Worried Berbatov won't play both games. But 8 points is crazy when I have my WC isn't it? Any comments on this much appreciated.

    Also worried Tevez will drop deep against Villa and not likely to score (as mentioned on the Scoutcast). Anyone else concerned by Tevez this week?

      Only the thirs transfer is worthwhile IMO (Vidic). Agree I'd prefer Torres to Berbatov but it's not worth a hit, and I'm guessing you need the funds from the Nasri transfer, which I don't think is a good idea.

          That was a poor penalty by his standard though.

          He did is best to say he wasn't worried by it in his "interview". I don't imagine anyone will have an easy time taking the next one off him. I'm happy to not worry about that until i've seen someone else take one ahead of him (and to be honest it's not like that would make me think about shipping him).

          Watching him in live in both those Leicester games has convinced me that he won't leave my team this year (barring injury). I think he's a phenomenal player.

      Thanks for your help everyone. Unfortunately I can't just do Kyrg to Vidic because I've got 3 Utd players already (and don't have the cash). Nasri might be rested this week (I've got RVP too). Berbatov might only play one game, Torres will play both.

      But, 3 people saying it's not worth the hit confirms my doubts. Might just have to go Rafael to Vidic.

    1 Krygiakos -> Rio. no points hits. Other defenders will be Coleman and either Givet or kolarov.

      Kelly's not worth the hit imo, too risky in terms of playing time. I like the look of Option 1 though and I'd play Rio, Coleman and Bosingwa (away at Bolton who aren't great defensively). Kolarov as 1st sub.

        Thats interesting notion BBD!! You think Boswinga to play in front of Givet (home to WBA) and Kolarov (at Villa). Food for thought!!

        Looks like Rio in for Krygiakos is the general consensus. Logic tells me that but i feel semi-naked in the fact I shall have (only!?) 6 double GW'ers with Varney benched. The double GW is distracting my thoughts and I feel obliged somewhat, to over-compensate.
