Gameweek 18 saw the last sixteen in the Paddy Power Cup go head-to-head, with a place in the Quarter-Finals and the inaugural Fanatsy Football Scout shield at stake. The results saw the top ranked player again make ominous progress, while notable names from the community also found safe passage…

Iyad Zahlan’s “Giavara555” saw off the plucky challenge of legriff to make it into the last eight to become the name that everyone wants to avoid in the draw. He’ll be joined by JMS, placed just 29 places behind him in the overall FPL rankings – another name the rest of the pack will hope to skip in next round. That heavy-hitting pair are joined by ange1range1, Wild Rover, MileHigh, Mr.KK, Ricky smokes let’s go and Tommy Tynan’s left shin pad in the last eight. All those teams now qualify for the draw for the Shield tournament, where they will be facing the final eight in the Members Cup which starts early next year.

The full results from the last sixteen are below with the draw for the Quarter-Finals due on Thursday, ahead of Gameweek 20. Tomorrow’s Gameweek gives our remaining cup participants a brief rest period, then, before the last eight do battle in the matches played out in Gameweek 20 over the December 29 and 30 matches.

Congrats to our last sixteen winners.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I need to offload either Santi or Walcott. Which one though? Have had Santi since the beginning but theo's recent gametime and being OOP are playing havoc with my mind.

I had the same thing - I sold Santi (who I got in only because Chelsea had no match) and got Hazard back. Worked out perfectly!

Theo will score more points, IMO.

ta volk, short-term i think i agree that theo has more potential but whether i can afford a 0.4 profit loss in order to get him back in the future (especially when my TV is dreadfully low) is the question? Swaying towards theo nonetheless

Apart from the 1 off big score from Santi he hasn't exactly set the world alight. Although it seems he'll play every week unlike Walcott who you'd think would but the much better option if played OOP and started every game. It's tough.

If you Captain him and he doesn't start you will be in the same boat as most players of the game so won't lose out too much.

If you captain someone else who does ok and he doesn't start you will rocket up the rankings.

    RVP doubters..

Fergie's come out bigging him up even more the last few days. And with Rooney's poor game on Sunday, it wouldn't make any sense to relegate your top striker to the bench against a Newcastle side who are renowned for causing Utd problems.

fergie has always said rooney needs a run of games otherwise he loses his form. Doesnt he have a decent record against newcastle as well?

I currently have rvp as captain but with berba(lol) michu and bale in my team im really debating it.

But you say rvp is 1 yellow off a ban (b4 they are reset in jan) - why would fergie bring him on as a sub and risk it then (i dont expect them to be losing against a poor newcastle atm)

So having him capt with a good vcp should suffice

Happy Christmas everyone! Any tips on which combo looks better to own right now?

    A) Sidwell, Ba, Rooney
    B) Maloney, Long, RVP

If B, then is it a worth a hit to do Long –> Benteke?

Investigating Berbas dry spell, or just talking myself into getting him.

GW12: vs Sunderland: early red card for Hangeland foced Fulham into a defensive gameplan
GW13: vs @Stoke: one of the best defenses in the league
GW14: vs @Chelsea: again one of the best defenses
GW15: vs Tottenham: Not a great defense but still a much better team
    GW16: vs Newcastle: No excuses
GW17: vs @QPR: Not a great defense, but a team with new life and improved form under Harry Redknapp
GW18: vs @ Liverpool: Great defense

Considering this, and that he was playing as a midfielder which he is not used to. Also that Ruiz is coming back at least next week, which would allow him to start playing as a striker again. I think the risk to bring him in is at least justified. I really find it hard to see Fulham and Berbatov continuing this horror run.

But stats from this season is kind of invalid as he wont be playing a midfield role with Ruiz back as he has been for the past 7 weeks.

My intent is to get him back for the double. I may consider Walcott as an option if he's playing well - it would give me funds for Gibbs and perhaps Nolan

Me too. Same dilemma. Mata seems to play more central and involved more than Hazard. But Hazard got more points last GW hence I think more people bringing him in.

I thinking I'm going to bring in Hazard for Caz but only as I won't be able to afford Sess to Walcott next GW if I get in Mata. If funds weren't a problem I'd get in Mata.

Looking at his previous history you could say so with a goal and assist in apps against the Manchester clubs but he has come away with blanks versus lesser teams at home. Normally, you would expect players that can be considered 'fixture-proof' to register points at home however Santi prefers away trips.
