Six Premier League matches, not a single clean sheet. Can someone at the FPL approve a 1-7-3 formation?

We went into Saturday’s matches with United facing West Brom at fortress Old Trafford, Arsenal up against a Birmingham side low on confidence and without Cameron Jerome, Newcastle hosting a goal-shy Wigan. It didn’t look too much to ask to expect at least one clean sheet from that lot.

Instead investors in Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Tim Krul, and the one-week budget offer that is Johan Djourou, were left empty handed. Arsenal’s fragility was again exposed, this time by the towering Nikola Zigic, Van der Sar uncharacteristially blundered two points against Di Matteo’s refreshingly cavalier Baggies, and Newcastle were undone by a proper Charile N’Zogbia performance.

As this is typed the league’s best defence is largely unoccupied, while Chelsea’s midfield dominate the second period at Villa Park. Perhaps Carlo Ancelotti’s side will once again be the Fantasy Manager’s saving grace?

Then we have Man City to come on Sunday as they hop on the bus to Blackpool. They can expect waves of attack at the seaside; the word “cagey” doesn’t exist in the Blackpool vocabularly and I can’t see Holloway involving himself in a game of chess with the cultured Roberto Mancini. City won’t have it easy then, but maybe they can join Chelsea as the two continue to run away with the clean sheet count.

Aside from that pair of defensive dependables, Fantasy Managers are left scratching for returns at the back. The trend towards mid-price or cheap defensive options who can offer the threat of attacking points – Seamus Coleman of Everton, Elmohamady of Sunderland, Chris Samba of Blackburn and perhaps Gary Cahill of Bolton, is surely set to continue.

Can anyone really back the Arsenal defence until Thomas Vermaelen returns from injury? Do we expect Untied to travel to Stoke or indeed, to host Spurs the Gameweek after, and keep them at bay? Not even the mid-price defences, who have provided a modicum of efficiency in previous seasons – Aston Villa, Stoke, Birmingham, Fulham – seem to provide any real potential that can be relied on.

Find me a defender out of position or at least one who can offer a real threat from set-plays. After today’s heavy load of dirty laundry, I’m beginning to give up on the hunt for clean sheets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which player is more appropriate to have for the long run, Tevez or Hart?

My plan for getting Fabs in by GW10 could be either
Davies -> Fabs, O'Shea -> Bosingwa and Tevez -> Elmander (or simmilar)

    or

Davies -> Fabs, O'Shea -> Jara and Hart -> Krul

I think maybe both. Only only have tevez as I don't like the idea of spending it so much on a keeper

Hart over Tevez, Tevez is so heavily owned that he has become a waste, take today for example, if he don't play loads will be screwed, he rarely punishes you this season by scoring loads and has become a Steady Eddie.

1 good defence options and I think tevez is too expensive, maybe you could get RVP when back better value and will prob score higher

Was able to hold off on any transfers this wk. Happy to have 2 freebies this week and watching MOTD last night did not feel the need to jump the gun and buy anyone.

After watching VDV - would def like to have him he is looking excellent. Reluctantly arteta may have to make way anyone else thinking the same

VDV is proving ultra-consistent and ultra-influential - he was unlucky not to have bagged a hat-trick yesterday and he's undoubtedly taking the sting out of Bale's output.

Malouda will stay for the Wolves game but I don't see him as "value" player at present. The same can be said for Tevez - City don't score enough goals but I expect the Blackpool game to be open enough for him to profit.

Both players are going to be shipped out over the next couple of weeks. I need to get in Bosingwa and VDV.

he'll probably play in virtually every game from now on i reckon, just rested this week because he'd played every game so far and had two international games - fergie probably wanted him for the champions league game midweek, and rafael didn't exactly impress against west brom so i reckon he'll be nailed on from now on

I'm contemplating a future transfer double (no hit) of

    Malouda out, fabregas in
    Dann out, Bosingwa in

    That would give me

    Cole, Bosingwa, Elmohamady (Jones, Williamson)
Fabregas, Nani, Van der Vaart, Etherington (Barton)
    Drogba, Berbatov, Carroll

With 1.5m to upgrade Barton or Carroll to someone I'd be happier starting every week.

I'm already treating Cole as a 6th midfielder for the points he rakes in, and I'm hoping Bosingwa can be the same. Barton to N'Zogbia could be a good swap, and I know he can continue to get crazy goals all season.

Dropping Malouda though... is it madness? I'm not doing it because of a lean 3 weeks, I just think the improvements elsewhere are ample points cover for losing him and make my whole squad better.

    Any thoughts on this?

Like it, but personally feel Bosingwa is for watching after so long out but got to be on the radar at that price.
As for Malouda, I'm still treating him as 1 for the season, nothing changed there yet for me.

I think Cole and Bosingwa would be a good move if he's starting every week.

For the money Malouda costs and with having Drogba, i'm gonna get Fabregas in for him, can't see it affecting too much really.

All these changes will be in mind for gw10, i've already done Barton>N'Zogbia B-)

Bosingwa and Cole, awesome double up/Clean Sheet & assist potential. Gonna wait on Bosingwa until that 90 mins is outta the way, he won't rise this gameweek unless some ppl on here go daft on him

Definitely wait IMO, but it seems clear that Ancelotti favours those bombing full-backs.

Not fussed about missing a rise either. He's been out for a while, and I don't want to get hurt by a relapse.

Bale had to go, especially after having to make transfers early and VDV being suspended in the champs league hopefully makes it minimal risk.

How's this for next week, need to decide today:

    Foster
    Cole Konchesky Jara
    Malouda Nani VDV Nzog
    Drogba (c) Tevez Carroll

I did toy with Carroll to Elmander or Davies to Brunt, but I may wanna give Carroll longer and with the second transfer I'd probably have to bench Carroll which Im not sure I could do.

i still think that carrol offers good value for a third striker.

you need to have a chelsea midfielder imo - malouda offers the best in terms of consistent rewards

VDV looks like he can cover the spurs attack so ditching bale is looking sensible

Carrol offers good value on the bench IMO 🙂

        Bale - VDV seems logical

Malouda to Fabs GW later cannot afford it any other way , need to think bit more about that
