634x258 The Stock Check

A disappointing Monday night affair saw Southampton dominate the opening period, only to concede ground in the second-half as Everton gained superiority. With little on show for Fantasy managers, here’s the Monday night Stock Check…

On the Up

The Southampton Defence
A second clean sheet in the last three maintained the form of the much-improved Saints rearguard. With Artur Boruc making several key saves, he is presenting a seemingly assured budget option in goal for a 4.4 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tag, while both Luke Shaw and Nathaniel Clyne go on offering value for their 4.0 valuations.

Leighton Baines
In truth, the service from the Toffees left-back was not up to its usual standard but, having gained his second consecutive clean sheet, Baines delivered returns and, pre-bonus, is now just six points of the top of the FPL defender rankings. With West Brom and Villa at Goodison in the next two, further profits look on the cards for those who have kept the faith.

Going Down

Marouane Fellaini
It’s no goal in his last five starts for the towering Belgian. More significantly perhaps, the injury to Seamus Coleman forced a reshuffle that saw David Moyes shift him back to a deeper central midfield role and introduce Victor Anichebe up front. With Kevin Mirallas looking bright from the bench on his return from injury, Moyes has further attacking options and there will be slight concerns that the Everton boss may consider a change of position for Felliani having seen his side draw consecutive blanks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Left, right or through the middle. Works very hard, not technically brilliant but very good, pacy, great team player. Would have preferred him to Sturridge for The Reds. Good start for Sturridge but he needs to improve and be more consistent.

I know, but he can be lazy. Much more skilful than Shane but I don't see him yet as being a team player. The Reds had another technically very good player not so long back.Jermaine Pennant's attitude didn't get him far. Rogers has said it's put up or shut up time for Sturridge. Let's hope he puts up. 🙂

Did you not see Sturridge and Suarez link up vs Norwich?! He is a team player, just because he takes a few ambitious shots doesn't make him not one, they were passing to each other and making one twos all game

In 1 game, at home to Norwich? He tapped the ball in from a yard out. He needs to do it week in and week out. He's 23 and had 4 clubs in past 4 years. I'll judge him at the end of the season, a season in which, until January he couldn't displace a poor Torres from the Chelsea team. I know he's quality but just saying he needs to show it more and show more teamwork like tracking back.

He also tracked back vs Norwich and made a good tackle! But yeh i get your point that's just one game so can't really judge yet.

When given a decent run in the team he did well, on loan at Bolton and under AVB at Chelsea. I think part of his selfishness came from trying to prove he should be in the team by scoring, which was detremental to the team. It's all been a learning experience for him and if he is a regular starter at Liverpool I think he'll definitely do well.

I, also, am a big fan of Long. He and Lukaku in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 would be terrific ... and as we all know West Brom will reply on scoring more goals!

    Need some feedback please!

For my WC draft defence I looked out the next 6 fixtures for all of my defence (1 GK + 5 DEF).
Out of a total 36 fixtures only 9 are against sides I consider especially dangerous (Spurs, Chelsea, City, Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal).

    That's good right?

Just to fill in some extra info my home/away rotation including my keeper gives me 3 home games out of 4 per week!

    Defence:

    Mignolet

    Zabaleta, Gibbs, Davies, Shaw, Harte

To be fair I'll almost never play Harte (3rd on bench). Zaba is good attacking wise and if I'm forced to play Harte he can maybe get an assist via Corners/Free Kicks or even a goal via Free Kicks/Penalty.

Good research for your defensive options. I like it, Zabaleta and Gibbs are solid options, though I'm not sure about Arsenal's clean sheet potential so you may be relying on attacking returns.

      Who is your other goalkeeper?

Other goalkeeper is Rudd haha. Really don't like spending on a pair of GK.

My current attack has power 4 + Puncheon (instead of Michu) and Aguero + Fletcher up top. Spending on a keeper means compromising on my beloved attack since I don't want to lose Zab/Gibbs.

Evening all! Really loving life, and this game at the moment. Green arrows for four weeks now.

Haha I just looked at GW20............5 moves, 12pt hit, and still greenies!!! I had 8 players playing ffs!!!! Funny old game this.

Anyway, back to things at hand. Providing there are no suspensions and/or big injuries (and obviously the last week or so of the transfer window to bear in mind), what would you do with this team............

    Martin Gibbs Davies

B, but not by much. I mean not by much at all. I would actually do Aguero, Walcott and Benteke/Fletcher for two weeks, then get Sturridge in.

I'm thinking there'll be goals in the game at the Emirates between Arsenal and Liverpool though.

Both sides are so open it's unbelievable. I have never seen a side come to the Britannia and attack so much as Liverpool did.

    Begovic
    Apache Demel Cameron
    Walcott Mata Michu Silva
    Suarez Fletch RVP (C)

    Jussi Mareaux Sagna Harte

    Worth the 4 pointer?

    Bank 0.2m, 1 freebie.

Think I'm down to these 2 options, unless Ba starts against Bradford in the cup at the w/e. Which gets your vote and why?

    A) Lambert -> Benteke. Reasoning = SOT have a tough run of games whereas Benteke's next 3 are decent. He also ticks the same boxes (spearheads the attack, on pens) and actually has better stats than Lambert over the last 6 weeks.

    B) Save the transfer

    Szczesny, (Bunn)
    Baines, Gibbs, Davies, (Demel)
    Bale, Mata, Walcott, Fellaini, (Marveaux)
    RVP, Ba, Lambert

As sad as it sounds I would do Silva 🙁

I am trying to get him in, but I just don't see how, and if it is even worth it. He is a consistent points scorer I suppose. I think Bale HAS TO come good for a couple of weeks here, and I hope it starts with Norwich.

I don't know mate to be honest, but somehow I think you need at least one Arsenal and I think it really has to be Walcott.

It does look quite pretty. Could be explosive, especially when Stoke have their nice home matches.

Could also be awful, if Stoke and Chelsea under-perform any given week, god forbid together.

Clichy is BY NO MEANS, and I mean NO MEANS a nailed on defender for us. Kolarov could start any weekend, and that is the god honest truth. I wouldn't entertain either Clichy or Kolarov unless the other was injured the rest of the season. Kolarov is back and fit again now.

He is far too valuable for them further up the pitch. Regardless though, he will get chances from set pieces and Baines' crosses.

For their immediate fixtures, he is essential to keep if you have him.

True but as the injuries pile up, Moyes might have his hand forced a bit. But he`ll get chances from set pieces, the man simply cannot be stopped in the box. Brute force, and i dont care for EFC or the big man himself.

Hi all, long time lurker but first post here.

    Current WC draft:

    Begovic Federici
    Zabaleta Evra Gibbs Davies Harte
    Michu Fellaini Walcott Mata Guthrie
    RVP Aguero Sturridge

    + 1.2M in the bank.

I've been scratching my head for hours trying to come up with a balanced approach, and this seems to be the one I am most satisfied with. Plan is to do a two week punt on Fletcher for GW24 & GW25, then bring in Sturridge. Obviously can't fit in the "Power 5" with this strategy, but there is enough funds in the bank to allow flexibility for rotation of Mata/Walcott/Bale/Gerrard for the two big hitting spots in midfield. Although trying to pick who scores big in midfield week to week will be playing the lottery and may cause headaches...

    Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I think you could do better downgrading one of your defenders, Gibbs would be my preferred choice. Play Evra and Zaba almost every game, and rotate the last spot. Giving you that extra 1.5 to play with which is quite nice. Or you could drop Evra for Rafael and save another million.
