634x258 The Stock Check

An ten-minute avalanche ensures that another double Gameweek delivers big returns as Arsenal’s key attacking assets come good. Over at the Liberty Stadium meanwhile, Swansea’s progress to the Capital One Cup Final is somewhat overshadowed by an extraordinary sending off for Eden Hazard. Here’s the Stock Check on Wednesday’s action…

On the Up

Lukas Podolski
Having missed Sunday’s clash through illness, the German chose the second fixture of the double Gameweek to deliver his biggest haul of the season, including a trio of quick-fire assists. Whilst he was again replaced for the fifth match running, with three home fixtures in the next four and in this form, Podolski will surely go on earning new suitors and enjoy a further price rise prior to next week’s midweek deadline.

Theo Walcott
Backed with the armband by so many Fantasy managers, Walcott delivered once again with his second goal of the Gameweek, plus the assist for Giroud’s first goal. Walcott’s consistency is there to be admired: he’s scored six goals in his last seven starts and has only failed to return in one of those matches. Regardless of whether he plays as a striker or winger, Walcott is potent.

Santi Cazorla
Arsenal’s playmaker had failed to notch since his stunning hat-trick at Reading but timed his return to the scoresheet for the double Gameweek. While he has now moved on to eight goals and assists for the season, with Walcott continuing to stream returns, only those looking for a differential or brave enough to double on Arsenal’s attacking assets, will surely consider Cazorla over Walcott right now.

Olivier Giroud
Against the odds, the Frenchman started both double Gameweek fixtures and tonight delivered unlikely returns. The brace moved him on to eight goals for the season and, at 7.8, he’s comes in cheaper than Lucas Podolski. For those looking to back the Gunners over their three home fixtures in four, Giroud is yet another differential option to consider, although his security of starts remain in question.

Going Down

The West Ham Defence
Backed with double Gameweek investment, few would have expected returns from the trip to the Emirates but, having leaked five goals, the Hammers back four has conceded 12 in their last six league outings. It’s one clean sheet in twelve and Sam Allardyce will surely make an improvement at the back a priority having regularly emphasised the need to build survival plans on shut-outs.

Joe Cole
Having notched in Saturday’s league outing with QPR, Cole was rested to the bench tonight as he continues to build his fitness on his return to regular action. While the decision to preserve Cole is understandable, it will dent the confidence of would-be investors who will now likely reserve judgement until Cole has strung together further consecutive appearances.

Eden Hazard
Dismissed for what appeared to be a kick on a Swansea City ball-boy, the Belgian will serve a violent conduct charge that will come with a three-match ban that will see him miss league matches against Reading and Newcastle. We can only wait the fall-out to see if any further action will be taken which could see the ban increased. The dismissal capped a night to forget for Rafa Benitez who started with Demba Ba up front but saw his side frustrated by the defiant Swans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

IF Liverpool beat Oldham and then IF they draw in the next round of the FA Cup, then potentially they could have a DGW with the Swans due to the League Cup final.

    On WC this week.

Want Aguero, Sturridge and RVP as my forward line, but this leaves me with a dilemma in midfield...

Walcott Bale Mata are dead certs IMO.

Only debate is whether Fellaini/Michu takes the 4th "big hitter" spot. I bought Michu (after having sold him) for 7.8m, so will lose a bit of value.

Thougts around my WC, I need some really good differentials. Behind 100 pts in my ML, but I'm looking to win it for the second year in a row. The problem is the leader, with players like Mata, Studge, RvP, Giroud, Walcott, Cazorla, Baines, Nasty +++ it's looking tough. I've got my WC still intact, he does not, but still. Been looking at Gerrard, Evra, Silva, Bale, Fletcher, Tevez etc. Any suggestions? My team is linked..

I like Fletcher short-term, but not sure I'd keep faith over tougher fixtures. With Liverpool's fixtures, Gerrard could be golden. Bale is always a good choice, his attempts on goal is high and you can sense that a good score isn't too far off. Evra too expensive. Tevez has too much uncertainty surrounding him, Dzeko sounds like a better punt. Or just get Aguero.

When I say Liverpool's fixtures, I mean Liverpool's fixtures after the next two. Liverpool has done very poorly versus bigger teams this season.

Cheers mate! Great reply. Aguero could actually be my man, though I've been thinking that Suarez could be one of the best diffs (since he's got Studge), though we might get even, Sturridge will probably be scoring a few.

The important part is to keep calm and don't pick differentials for the sake of picking differentials, if you think an obvious choice will outscore a diff don't pick the diff! Chances are he'll slack off slightly when in the lead, mess up a few transfers and/or captaincy choices. Just gotta keep it cool and don't play as if you're chasing IMO, still many, maaany gameweeks to go.

Okey, here we go. Been away for a while but now it's time for drafting of the last WC spots....

    Bego - Bunn

    Zabaleta - ??? - Davies - Clyne - Harte
    Mata - Silva - Walcott - ??? - Marveaux
    RVP - Sturridge - Fletcher

I was originally thinking: Gibbs + Bale

but now I am leaning towards: Baines + Kagaw.a due to fixtures. I probably do Baines + Kagawa --> Gibbs + Bale for GW 26.

What you guys think? Don't say "No Fellaini" or "No Michu". They are poor form and my bet this spring is that they will not perform as well as the likes of Silva, Kagawa, Sturridge etc...

    Cheers guys!

So there will only be a blank / DGW if Liverpool get through to the FAC 5th round AND they draw in the 5th round?

Good scouting Siva. Looking very much like a DGW. If the 27th is pencilled in for Cup replays then the rescheduled Liv/Swa game won't be announced in the next couple of days (as I wrongly assumed), but they will wait at least until after the weekend. I think the only real chance of it being re-arranged but still in GW27, and us knowing about it early enough, is if Liverpool get knocked out by Oldham.

Of course, they could also potentially bring the Swansea game forward to the 6th Feb if no Oldham replay is required. In which case it'll be an imminent DGW. That'll put the cat amongst the pigeons.

Happened with Chelsea v Reading for GW1. No reason why they can't do it again. Another (unlikely) possibility is they could move it forward to 16 Feb if Liverpool get knocked out of the FA Cup by Oldham. Either way we won't know until at least early next week.

You would think Hazard violently beat an old lady by the way they are describing that incident. Yes, he should have been punished. However, the ball boy should clearly receive some sort of punishment as he clearly milked the injury and had it is now apparent he had this planned. Moreover, where was the ref during that whole fiasco? The FA will almost certainly do nothing to punish the boy or the ref, but this time is different. Do the FA really want the EPL to be a laughingstock of partiality like the stunts ball boys and other cheaters act in La Liga?

    Morning Folks.

I played my wildcard to maximise my DGW players and now im wondering if i need to do my second one this week or if i can wait a week?

    Team as it is:

    Mignolet

Gibbs Demel LUiz (Clyne R Martin)

    Walcott Mata Michu Noble (Puncheon)

    RVP Ba Lambert

If i did pull the traigger i think i would look to get rid of Ba and get in Sturridge or Suarez. I have 1FT

    Please help!

was all set to do pod and luiz for fletcher and baines this week, but now after pod's performance and hazard's red (more likely luiz will play as a mid with ramirez/lampard in a more attacking role) i really dont know...
is pod to fletcher stil a good move or should i just save the tranfer?

    Ming (fed)
    Luiz, Gibbs, Hughes (demel, davies)
    Mata, walcott, bale, fellaini, michu
    RVP, pod (lpambert)

Hazard's red won't affect Luiz, if he plays in mid it's to rest Ramires or Lamps.

Arsenal has great fixtures, I'd keep Pod for now.
