The midweek fixture schedule means we take a somewhat belated look at the goings-on at the top of the Scout League, where a new leader sits at the summit. As always, we cast an eye over the transfer market, with Rafa Benitez’s forward rotation having a significant impact:

Scout League Standings

Kelvin Travers moves back to the top of the Scout League after a 63 point return in Gameweek 24. Leighton Baines and Juan Mata were his chief protagonists, racking up 31 points between them, while Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale also produced the goods as Kelvin moved to 1584 points – he is also the new world number one after last night’s matches.

Site regular T.I. is down to second, then, after a 53 point return. He also has Baines, Walcott and Bale in his first XI, while Dimitar Berbatov chipped in with a goal in Fulham’s 3-1 win over West Ham – T.I. sits in second in the overall rankings on 1575 points and still has a wildcard in hand.

Marcus Blomlof is a new name in the top five. He sits in third after racking up 77 points in Gameweek 24 – Baines, Bale, Walcott and Mata were joined by Ben Davies and Wayne Rooney in picking up the points as Marcus climbed to 12th in the overall standings on 1555 points.

Sitting in fourth spot is Eddie McGeever. He picked up 49 points last time round, with Mata and Walcott’s returns also helped by Ryan Shawcross and Luis Suarez – despite a fall, Eddie still remains inside the overall top 20 on 1545 points.

Our top five is completed by Dan Jones, who registered 48 midweek points. Frank Lampard chipped in along with Baines and Walcott to help Dan to 20th spot in the overall rankings; like the rest of our top five, he suffered the frustration of a four point armband haul from Robin Van Persie.

Thanks to the performances of our featured managers, Fantasy Football Scout remains at the top of the best leagues. We have a 6.6 point advantage over our nearest rival, which, once again, is the Scout Members league – T.I. leads the way in that one, with a five point lead on second placed Julian Zipparo.

In the contributors league, Mark continues to lead the way. He picked up 54 points in Gameweek 24, courtesy of Baines, Mata and Walcott. Also, congratulations must go to Andy – his side finished in the top 10 for the month of January. Look out for more on Andy’s team in tonight’s revamped ScoutCast.

Market Trends

The budget appeal of Ben Davies has earned the Swansea left-back more than 25,000 transfers in – making him the most popular player in the Gameweek so far. Simon Mignolet has earned 12,000+ new investors after climbing to the top of the keeper standings, while Pablo Zabaleta’s fourth straight clean sheet for City has persuaded 17,000 to draft in the right-back. No surprise to see Leighton Baines on Fantasy radars after his brace against West Brom on Wednesday evening – 15,000 Fantasy managers have scrambled aboard that bandwagon.

In midfield, Theo Walcott has almost double the number of transfers of any other option. The Arsenal winger has over 20,000 new owners after scoring for the third consecutive Gameweek, while Juan Mata (10,000+) and Marouane Fellaini (9,000+) lead the chasing pack. Up top, Olivier Giroud’s recent upturn in form have persuaded over 20,000 to snap up the Gunners’ frontman – Reading’s Adam Le Fondre has been acquired by a similar amount after scoring five times in his last three appearances off the bench. Luis Suarez and Steven Fletcher, with 13,000 and 11,000 transfers in respectively, are receiving plenty new interest, with the upcoming double Gameweek sure to see the Uruguayan rise further in ownership.

In terms of transfers out, Demba Ba’s owners have clearly had enough of Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy. The Senegalese striker has been sold on by more than 45,000 managers – almost four times any other forward – after playing a mere 11 minutes in Chelsea’s last two league games. Significantly, City pair Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez are the next most unpopular, with Roberto Mancini’s rotation also coming into play here, while Jermain Defoe’s one goal in nine has persuaded over 7,500 to sell the Spurs man.

At the back, Asmir Begovic has been shipped out by 10,000 after failing to register a clean sheet in six, while injuries to Kieran Gibbs and David Luiz have earned the pair plenty sales. Rafael’s omission from the United starting XI has kick-started the transfers out, with uncertainty returning over his guaranteed game time. The suspended Eden Hazard continues to accumulate plenty transfers out (15,000) and Santi Cazorla has also been traded out in significant numbers, with Walcott’s stunning consistency keeping the Spaniard firmly in the shade.

The GJ Enrique dilemma is similar to Gibbs and Sagna.
GJ, like Gibbs, offer more attacking threat and Sagna, like Enrique, was potentially rotated on the DGW.

You went for Gibbs last time around. The logical move is to go for GJ as well if you have the cash.

How do you know he wouldn't make any impact in the league? Michu was unknown before he joined Swansea, for £2m and now he is one of the most talked about players in the PL versus the likes of Veron, Forlan, Shevchenko all signed for big money and players you would expect to make an impact in the PL and never did.

The point being no matter what league you come from or how much you rate a player it doesn't mean he can't do well in one of the better leagues. Even then most people confuse the PL as the best league not the most entertaining. If Grant Holt can come up through the lower leagues or the battering ram Kevin Davies can carve a PL career then Gary Hooper definitely can.

Because Ive watched him up here. Ive watched so many players up here fail in the tranistion to the PL. Michu was a steal a gem of a find from Spain and a technically brilliant player.

I see what youre saying about Holt, even Lambert too. We dont know but im saying imo he doesnt have what it takes. We wont know unti he tests himself there but I cant see it at all.

Yeah alot of players do struggle to make the transition but not just from the SPL, from all over Europe and the rest of the world. There is no formula to it that's all i'm saying. You just have to take each case individually and like you say until he moves we won't know how he manages to play in the PL.

Look what Barca and Bayern did to Chelsea. It's a game based on results not possession. If you can't capitalize on all that possession you don't deserve to win.

A team not turning up on the day does not equate to a team being poor and having no chance against another team. Football doesn't work like that.

Look at Liverpool @ Oldham last week compared to the majority of the game last night.

I appreciate that. Anyone can beat anyone which makes us love football. Statistically they dont stand a chance against these big clubs. Tactics may be right on the night and the opposition may have an off day the ref may help you (Spartak) I just cant see it happenning again.

Juve are a great side and it will be a solid tie of course but anything is possible in a knockout competition. Juve just signed Anelka to solve their striker crisis so it's not as if we are facing the best strikeforce in Europe.

Both legs will be tight games imo and away goals could come into it.

Every player is different. You can look at Boyd and Larsson and how many they both scored in the SPL then compare what they both did afterwards. Middlesborough, Turkey, MLS versus United and a CL winners medal for Barcelona.

The league you score goals in does not dictate what you are able to achieve in another league. It's completely different. Look at Forlan for United then look at him for Atletico. They would never have signed him if the looked at his United form and applied that thinking to it.

AppleBonkers, if you are here, it is the crosses.

    Norwich 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Robert Snodgrass collected the maximum bonus points (BP) as Norwich and Spurs shared the honours at Carrow Road. In an all-round performance, the playmaker produced a shot on target, a successful tackle, a pair of interceptions and 12 crosses – he has now received 20 BP this season, fourth highest of any midfielder.

It's an absolute joke, I watched the game and no-one really deserved baps but Bale deserved them for that goal alone. I hate that owners aren't rewarded with baps when they pick a player that scores goals.

Baps shouldnt be for goals in the first place. They are bonus points, Bales goal should get him something becuase it was a goal above and beyond. But otherwise strikers should not be getting so many.

So a shot off target is negative ppi but a rubbish cross that goes straight out of play is positive ppi? That's crazy but good to know I guess.

i just hope those 12 crosses were completed crosses for the integrity of ppi, whoscored suggests only 1 of 12 were.

Hey guys, just a thought. Are you planning to sell rvp at some point?

I mean with 4/5 gws to go maybe he won't be scoring that much and you could really use the money elsewhere...

How many DGW players are people going with? I'm thinking 4 so it'll be easy to do a transfer, and use my bench without taking hits.

Gonna go Dempsey + Azpilicueta --> Gerrard + Enrique (with Michu and Davies)

Then I might do Davies --> Samba/ M'bia for the nice run of QPR fixtures

4.5 I would guess, simply for his history of goal threat. 4.0 would be a nice surprise though, but would make M'Bia less appealing

He'll be 5.0 unfortunately. His past FPL history and price (he was over 5 with Blackburn) will influence it.

What is top priority, sell first:

    A ba (possibly to sturridge)
B gibbs (can field a decent defence without him and get a pool defender before the double as gibbs is 5.6 and have zero in the bank, 2 FT though)
