The midweek fixture schedule means we take a somewhat belated look at the goings-on at the top of the Scout League, where a new leader sits at the summit. As always, we cast an eye over the transfer market, with Rafa Benitez’s forward rotation having a significant impact:

Scout League Standings

Kelvin Travers moves back to the top of the Scout League after a 63 point return in Gameweek 24. Leighton Baines and Juan Mata were his chief protagonists, racking up 31 points between them, while Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale also produced the goods as Kelvin moved to 1584 points – he is also the new world number one after last night’s matches.

Site regular T.I. is down to second, then, after a 53 point return. He also has Baines, Walcott and Bale in his first XI, while Dimitar Berbatov chipped in with a goal in Fulham’s 3-1 win over West Ham – T.I. sits in second in the overall rankings on 1575 points and still has a wildcard in hand.

Marcus Blomlof is a new name in the top five. He sits in third after racking up 77 points in Gameweek 24 – Baines, Bale, Walcott and Mata were joined by Ben Davies and Wayne Rooney in picking up the points as Marcus climbed to 12th in the overall standings on 1555 points.

Sitting in fourth spot is Eddie McGeever. He picked up 49 points last time round, with Mata and Walcott’s returns also helped by Ryan Shawcross and Luis Suarez – despite a fall, Eddie still remains inside the overall top 20 on 1545 points.

Our top five is completed by Dan Jones, who registered 48 midweek points. Frank Lampard chipped in along with Baines and Walcott to help Dan to 20th spot in the overall rankings; like the rest of our top five, he suffered the frustration of a four point armband haul from Robin Van Persie.

Thanks to the performances of our featured managers, Fantasy Football Scout remains at the top of the best leagues. We have a 6.6 point advantage over our nearest rival, which, once again, is the Scout Members league – T.I. leads the way in that one, with a five point lead on second placed Julian Zipparo.

In the contributors league, Mark continues to lead the way. He picked up 54 points in Gameweek 24, courtesy of Baines, Mata and Walcott. Also, congratulations must go to Andy – his side finished in the top 10 for the month of January. Look out for more on Andy’s team in tonight’s revamped ScoutCast.

Market Trends

The budget appeal of Ben Davies has earned the Swansea left-back more than 25,000 transfers in – making him the most popular player in the Gameweek so far. Simon Mignolet has earned 12,000+ new investors after climbing to the top of the keeper standings, while Pablo Zabaleta’s fourth straight clean sheet for City has persuaded 17,000 to draft in the right-back. No surprise to see Leighton Baines on Fantasy radars after his brace against West Brom on Wednesday evening – 15,000 Fantasy managers have scrambled aboard that bandwagon.

In midfield, Theo Walcott has almost double the number of transfers of any other option. The Arsenal winger has over 20,000 new owners after scoring for the third consecutive Gameweek, while Juan Mata (10,000+) and Marouane Fellaini (9,000+) lead the chasing pack. Up top, Olivier Giroud’s recent upturn in form have persuaded over 20,000 to snap up the Gunners’ frontman – Reading’s Adam Le Fondre has been acquired by a similar amount after scoring five times in his last three appearances off the bench. Luis Suarez and Steven Fletcher, with 13,000 and 11,000 transfers in respectively, are receiving plenty new interest, with the upcoming double Gameweek sure to see the Uruguayan rise further in ownership.

In terms of transfers out, Demba Ba’s owners have clearly had enough of Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy. The Senegalese striker has been sold on by more than 45,000 managers – almost four times any other forward – after playing a mere 11 minutes in Chelsea’s last two league games. Significantly, City pair Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez are the next most unpopular, with Roberto Mancini’s rotation also coming into play here, while Jermain Defoe’s one goal in nine has persuaded over 7,500 to sell the Spurs man.

At the back, Asmir Begovic has been shipped out by 10,000 after failing to register a clean sheet in six, while injuries to Kieran Gibbs and David Luiz have earned the pair plenty sales. Rafael’s omission from the United starting XI has kick-started the transfers out, with uncertainty returning over his guaranteed game time. The suspended Eden Hazard continues to accumulate plenty transfers out (15,000) and Santi Cazorla has also been traded out in significant numbers, with Walcott’s stunning consistency keeping the Spaniard firmly in the shade.

    ♫ brrr-oooo-eee-up aaah-ya-leee-ooo-ih ♫

Welcome to Mystic Björk's Group E, Matchday 2 Visions

Last matchweek, I predicted wins for KR Reykjavik and Fiorentina. I don't think there can be any doubt now over my precognitive abilities. Be afraid, mortals. And not just because I might release another self-indulgent fart of a concept album.

On to my predictions for this week

Norwich (Light Knight) Vs KR Reykjavik (roscola)
As with any matchup involving the wonderfully unique Norwich, it's easier to list the players they share than the players they differ on. However the Light Knight will surely be activating his wildcard this week so all bets are off. Presumably he'll be keeping hold of Lord Leighton of Baines, who is a clear threat to anyone and could win any gameweek on his own. Whether he'll stick with the rest of the Power Back Five is for him to know and us to find out.

What's clear is that my wonderful Reykjavik are reasonably well set up for this week, provided Ba plays against Newcastle and they can sign an adequate replacement for the loser Gibbs. However, they will struggle to overcome the twin advantages of home fixture and wildcard.

Mystic Björk's Vision: A bittersweet loss for my beautiful home city of Reykjavik

    Panathinaikos (Acquafresca) Vs Fiorentina (RoysCallerAnne)
With Winter Wildcards now deployed we can make some informed mystical predictions about this matchup.

It's hard to directly compare 3-5-2 teams against 3-4-3 teams but the key battlegrounds here appear to be:

    Gibbs replacement Vs Baines
    Harte Vs Clichy
    Walcott Vs Suarez
    Podolski Vs Anichebe

Any fool could tell you that on paper, Fiorentina look like runaway victors of that list. But if Arsenal can find their goal-scoring feet against struggling Stoke then it could be closer than it looks.

Mystic Björk's Vision: I see a narrow victory for Fiorentina here. Very narrow.

I did indeed. It wasn't super hard to predict, to be fair. RoysCallerAnne was on his wildcard and Acqua was 8 points down to start with.

I emailed a formatted version to TW (with photo, italics and bulletpoints). Is he around to do it? Or I could email it to you?

Benteke, Lambert or maybe Le Fondre as a 3rd striker alongside RVP + Suarez?

Le Fondre has form and couple nice fixtures. But I'm not convinced to buy player who mostly comes from the bench tbh...

I'd opt for Benteke. Low ownership too which is a bonus.

Le Fondre's worth monitoring but his lack of minutes is a worry.

If so, which pair is the best here:

    A. Szczesny + Onouha
    B. Cesar + Dawson/Cuellar
    ?

    Bunn is the other GK.

As a previous Le Fondre owner it is the most frustrating thing having him on the bench, and here is why.

When you don't start him you worry about him coming on and scoring
        - When he does you pray for one of your players not to play so he is subbed in (but all your players play)
        - When he comes on and gets 1pt you find that he is subbed in as one of your first 11 doesnt play...

When you need to play him because you have to bench xyz for whatever reason your nervous as hell as to whether he will come on or not, and if he does will he have enough time to do anything? He isn't always going to score you a goal in the last 10mins of the game

anyway my 2 cents, good luck mate

I personally went with Pog myself after facing the same question.

This is how I came to that choice.

            - Will I start Le Fondre if I had the choice? No (regardless of who he plays, because I field 3-5-2)
            - If one of my players doesnt play Pog will definiately play 60+mins

The +0.3m does actually help with the rest of your team as all savings add up. also buying LF you're effectively having a punt, on a punt. By that I mean if he ever comes on... will he even play? how many mins?

Anyway thats my logic, it is far from bible

I wouldn't - he could easily be at threat with Yanga-Mbiwa on the scene. Played vs Villa for his experience in the league and aerial threat but could easily find himself 3rd choice.

Debuchy / Santon look far better options to me.

BREAKING: David Beckham has passed his medical at PSG. Not surprising as he's been keeping his fitness high at Arsenal.

Not surprising really because all that is driving this move is shirt sales....

Le fondre could a be good differential in upcoming weeks. He could easily be 3rd striker and people can get in heavy midfielder. Mid is the place where everything seems to be happening!

So Butland is apparentely going to discuss terms with Stoke. He wouldn't go to Chelsea as he wouldn't be a starter. Will he walk in past Bego AND Sorensen... or is Bego to move?

BBC Midlands Today reports that he will return to St. Andrews on loan for the rest of the season. Birmingham are still hoping to get another couple of Stoke players on loan as part of the deal as well.

Guys just tinkering around with some defensive combinations here.
Both teams will have same front 8 in

Mata Michu Walcott Guthrie 8m punt (Barfa, Fellaini, etc)
    RVP Aguero Sturridge

Team A: Good GK + 2 big hitters and 3 rotating cheapies
    Reina 3.9
Zaba Cole Wilson Pearce Samba/R.Martin (or any sub 4.5m that rotates well)

Team B: Cheap GK + 3 big hitters and almost 2 non-playing cheapies
    Cesar/Ruddy 3.9
    Zaba Cole GJohnson Wilson Pearce

Assuming all players are fit by then.

Dear oh dear - why do the BBC publish the most inane twitter comments?

"Liverpool should go for Xabi Alonso"
"Baines could MENTOR Gibbs" (by laughing at him sat on the bench is it? lol)
"Just seen Danny Welbeck outside the Britannia stadium"

same as during games last night.
Walcott missed a good chance and someone writes, "thats why he shouldn't be a striker, far too unreliable in front of goal" completely forgetting about his good recent goals record and decent accuracy this season.
then at 2-2 someone writes, "thats why these 2 teams wont challenge the Manchester clubs, they simply cant defend" conveniently ignoring that MUN have conceded more than both and Liv defence hasn't been too shabby lately.
Lots more examples like this. I occasionaly send in something I think is quite insightful and backed up by fact but never get published. Rant (which no-one will probably read) over
