A continuous stream of goals from the middle of the park. A Welshman who can run through walls. A change of emphasis at United and the Spaniard who, more than any other player, has shaped our Fantasy seasons. Here’s our usual blast of opinion and talking points for the Monday lunch break…

Midfielders continue to dominate the scoring…
Of the 26 goals scored over the weekend’s action, only six were supplied by strikers – with no forward notching more than once. In contrast, 17 strikes arrived from midfield with the likes of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Michu amongst the protagonists on show. With players such as Shaun Maloney and Jason Puncheon notching to promote their budget potential, there is surely mounting evidence to either invest heavily in a strong five-man midfield, or play a 3-5-2 with a budget midfielder.

We have to find room for Bale…
On that note, the seemingly unstoppable form of Gareth Bale is giving his non-owners much concern. The brace against Newcastle could have been three or even four, as Bale shows pace, power and goal threat which is simply unrivaled right now. Despite concern over his consistency in the past, there’s little sign of the form wavering and perhaps little hope that opponents can contain him. Regardless of fixtures, we surely have to find a route to recruit as soon as possible?

Ferguson will grind it out if necessary…
United were far from convincing against Everton, conceding possession for large chunks of Sunday’s encounter. However, they rarely looked stretched by the visitor’s probing as Ferguson set his side up to defend deep, deploying Phil Jones to snuff out the threat of Marouane Fellaini. With a 12-point gap now in place, we could now see the tactics change. United may now look to grind out victories, resting their explosive attacking players for Champions League efforts. After failing to convince all season, perhaps it’s now time to start considering defensive investment?

And he’ll sacrifice Rooney in doing so…
Jones wasn’t the only player handed defensive duties in Sunday’s win. Wayne Rooney retreated from his support role behind Robin Van Persie to occupy the left flank after United’s opening goal. Adding a body to midfield, Rooney helped reduce the threat from Kevin Mirallas down the Everton right but, at the same time, limit his own influence further up the park. While there is still debate on the merits of Rooney vs Robin Van Persie, we surely have to consider that, if Ferguson is happy to shackle Rooney for an Old Trafford clash, the chances of the England man being dropped deep away from home surely increase.

City look a beaten side…
The failings at Southampton were clear and damming. Poor defending, a lack of conviction and creativity in midfield, little by way of threat up front. City looked anything but title contenders. Roberto Mancini has promised changes for the FA Cup tie this weekend but, in truth, Fantasy managers will surely be rapidly losing interest. We’ve stressed the necessity to consider City coverage for the title charge but that now seems a forlorn hope; with the back four looking fragile without Vincent Kompany and the spark lacking in attacking areas, investment in City’s high-priced assets looks ill-advised given the form and confidence in Mancini’s camp. We need a revival, not just to bring City assets back into the game but to keep United interested.

It’s not all about Benteke at Villa…
A sweetly struck free-kick delivered three priceless points for Paul Lambert’s side and gave centre stage to Charles N’Zogbia. While Christian Benteke’s goals are clearly vital to their survival chances, the former Wigan man has put in some inspired shifts since his return to fitness and, deployed behind the big Belgian, may yet sneak into our thinking should the title race be wrapped up and our attentions turn to the motivated sides fighting for survival.

Michu continues to shape our season…
The Spaniard announced himself on the Premier League stage with a brace at Loftus Road on the opening day and then, against the same opposition, reinstated himself as a primary midfield asset with an identical points haul from Saturday’s match. Having gone six league starts without a goal, the doubts were mounting but, with the chances still falling Michu’s way, it seemed inevitable that he would wake from his slumber. With 15 league goals for the season, he continues to justify even his inflated 8.4 FPL price tag. Installed in so many midfields, along with Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, the pair have played a big role in shaping our squads this season and with the likes of Bale, Theo Walcott and Juan Mata finding such consistency, the five man midfield template is surely hard to ignore.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He WAS essential for me when Rooney was gone. His points prove it.
With the blanks and Rooney's return coinciding I think it's pretty normal for people to reconsider their options and not considering him as an essential anymore as Rooney is not a bad option.

Now personally I don't think he is essential for me anymore as he is not the only 'alpha striker in MU anymore'. He and Rooney will definitely share some points, but currently he's edging over Rooney.

Haha am I missing something? I'm 10 points ahead, minus the 8 points from Mariappa. After that I'm 2 points ahead + Sturridge (?). So unless Sturridge gets -2... but you are closing in.

1st rate article. Brilliant. I can't lie, i am a little concerned as a Rooney owner. But in easier games SAF will deploy him more offensively, where i believe Rooney has the edge of Van Persie. RVP stretches the defences, and Rooney gets space in the box.

The last part of the season will be a tight run. It looks like I'm hitting rock bottom, was leading my ML, now I'm down at fifth place. With 122 pts behind, I believe it's over. I do have my WC intact, the other guys don't, but still. In desperate need of gret differentials every GW now..

Wouldn't say its over yet, Depending on results there could be a few DGW's in the offing to make up the ground

I like your positive thoughts, though 122 pts looks kinda tough atm! DGW could switch things upside down, that is true 🙂

Yeah, a well-played WC could see you rocket up Don. Keep the faith! Don't go full tilt on long-shot punts.

I went through with my GW27 transfers last night. Any criticism?

Did Gerrard + Suarez --> Lampard + RVP (ditched for a week, planned to get him back)

    Thoughts? Cheers

Decent moves but it'll be a long 12 days for you. There's many a match to be played in the cups!

Sounds like decent transfers if you think Mikel coming back won't threaten Lamps. I think you're good though, Lamps + Mikel will be the midfield. That said; very, very scary to do early transfers this GW 😯

why why why are people so impatient on this site! nearly 2 weeks between now and then..re transfers RVP could easily be rested against QPR/norwich, in fact more than likely will be and mikel back for chelsea

I had always planned to get him back for the long term. Holding off on getting RVP this week would only take up a transfer that I have planned for next week, or down the line. I also plan on keeping Michu, Davies and GJ for the remainder of the season

Also not to mention, in the two weeks wait between hearing anymore news, if RVP rises I might not be able to afford getting him back

Sturridge misses WBA and plays 10min against Swansea, Suarez gets 20points total.

    That scenario:
    A) ROCKS!
    B) SUCKS!

I'd be cool with the number of Michu(VC)'s it thwarted.

Captain score is everything so as long as Suarez does well, i could just about live with Sturridge not playing.

Benteke's going to frustrate you - he's explosive that he usually delivers when he's in the mood.

I'd go Lambert. Soton are looking fabulous!

I like Lambert better team that create more chances. That being said when villa score more times than not Benteke's involved. Tough call

Hey guys, please help me out with this team:

    Begovic--Cerny

    Zabaleta--Davies--Clyne--Johnson--Harte

    Walcott--Puncheon--Michu--Mata--Bale

    Suarez--RVP--Remy

I've got 0.2 in the bank, 1 FT, and 4 players with an upcoming blank.

I am thinking about two options:

    A) Davies --> Turner/Martin R

    or

    B) Johnson, Puncheon, Remy --> Samba, Fellaini, Pogrebynak (8 pt hit and would change my team to 352)

Suggestions will be much appreciated, thanks! 🙂

Coutinho @ 6.5mil and a midfielder could be interesting. See him lining up as one of the front three. Will definitely have a scout on him in the next two
