The midweek Fantasy Premier League gameweek saw over 460 members cut down to 256 in readiness for this weekend’s first round proper of the Paddy Power Cup. With such a large proportion of entrants facing elimination, the cut-off score was relatively high. The magic number (after point hits of course) was 60.

Unsurprisingly, that’s seen plenty of casualties with names like marknlard (59), Anorak (53), JamsieP (58), Gargamel (59) and applebonkers (57) to few but a few, all biting the dust. Along with marknlard and Gargamel, a total of 29 managers all missed the grade by a single point.

The wooden spoon of the qualifying round goes to intuitif who netted an appalling score of 19 (not the best week to take a 36-point hit).

The site’s contributors have been slashed in representatives, with Andy (58), Big Dunc (56), Sir Paulos (59), johnfinlay (57), elfozzie (52), I’m Not Marshal Foch (51) and SUPERIOR BEING (43) all making a swift exit.

Despite all those exits, there are plenty of big names in the hat for round one, the draw for which will be announced in a few hours.

The prizes courtesy of Paddy Power for the competition are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

      If you have nothing else to do then shift out Stockdale since he's not a starter any more. I looked at getting rid of Campbell but found since 1st Dec he's only scored 1 point less than Tevez.

      Having both you needn't worry about that though.

      Dont like Djourou. If want Arsenal cover would check out szczesny with Begovic combination - cheaper and mix nicely. Blackpool also have a run of tough games with some decent games mixed in, but would look to upgrade and cash out on adam. If Downgrade Vidic to a rafael, you might be able to fit in Cahill foR Adam. Just an Idea. Also Yaya Toure can be a decent option with Man Citys kind run of fixtures coming up. Either way, would definitely look to replace Djourou as it is a bit risky with scezney being better cover. Perhaps Kylie Walker if looking for cheap cover, and Villas Schedule looks great.

    i think theres a valid argument for losing nani for the next 6 weeks gents to be honest (been reading back on a bit of debate on this the last couple pages.)

    doesnt really cut it as much in away games (4 of next five), United dont have to push things that hard, champs league coming up, next home game v city will be tight i reckon, with Mankini in charge.... there's alot to ponder there for people behind in leagues and needing a bit of a differential in their midfield, with points to make up.

    JUST SAYING IS ALL! 🙂

      Nani is my only Man U cover - if Rooney starts to perform there may be an argument, but berbatov for me just doesnt work. Eliminate a handful of games and his goal tally suffers dramatically. Although having made me look stupid before, I just cant see myself ever captaining the prick. Nani is the safest most consistent ManU cover.

      Good shout. I ditched VDV last GW and Nani has been on my ditching-radar for quite a while. Playing 'catch up', which I am, I'm ditching the sheep. Worse case scenario is that I end up in roughly the same position. Those in-form differential boys can shoot me up the table, but should they fail, I can at least look myself in the face and say: "I tried."
