It’s been a while since we took a tenner from our wallets and paid visit to our friends at Paddy Power. A fortnight ago we were denied winnings by Bobby Zamora’s solitary strike after Michu had delivered on his side of our betting bargain. Undeterred by that setback, we’re at Paddy’s door again to examine the Scout Pick inspired markets for the Gameweek ahead…

Theo Walcott simply had to feature in this week’s bets. The Arsenal winger has run Robin Van Persie close all week in the Captain’s Poll and goes into the home clash with Villa well fancied to add to his already impressive 11-goal tally this term. Paddy are also showing confidence in the fleet-footed attacker, offering 16/5 on a Walcott anytime goal with a Gunners clean sheet. While we’re right behind Theo, we’ve got concerns on the Arsenal back four against the menace of Christian Benteke, so we’ll place a cautious £3 on this one.

The next market looks more up our street. Romelu Lukaku was inspired form when he was unleashed from the bench in the 2-0 win at Anfield last time out and, with a rest beckoning for Gameweek 28 against his parent club Chelsea, the big Belgian will surely be set free to torment the Black Cats at the Hawthorns this weekend. Paddy are dangling 6/1 on a Lukaku strike with a West Brom clean sheet against Sunderland – we’ll throw another £3 their way on that one.

Moussa Sissoko has been a revelation over his three matches for the Magpies and is another who goes into the weekend programme heavily backed for returns. Newcastle face Southampton at St James’ Park on Sunday: a crucial game for both sides. We expect that Sissoko will, once again, be played up behind Papiss Cisse to lead the charge on the Saints goal and, with two strikes to his name already, Paddy’s odds of 11/1 on a Sissoko goal with a Newcastle clean sheet look encouraging. We’ll wager another couple of quid on this one.

That leaves just a single pound to spend on Paddy’s regular treble market, which this week includes a potential fourth consecutive strike from Gareth Bale at West Ham. Paddy are dangling 18/1 on a Bale goal at Upton Park on Monday night, with a Walcott assist against Villa and a United clean sheet against QPR.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Youre right, and we don't need to look at just the last two games.

Walcott has been scoring better all season. He has played fewer games due to being dropped early in the season, which is what leads everyone to miss the point that he is the highest scoring player in the game, per minute and per start.

People talking about him being a punt or inconsistent are making up facts

not sure. honestly dont know if I'll be bothered setting up a team. don't know about too many players besides the well known ones (Henry, keane, etc) sounders players and ex-sounders players haha. plus it takes time to manage and I already spend enough time on fpl haha. and I'd prefer being able to attend games and not worrying about a fantasy team :D.

i'll be happy to offer any advise about the sounders though :D.

reposting this to help those debating who to give the armband to. all the credit for this post goes to Berbilly. link to the original post: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/02/22/spot-the-differential-gameweek-27/comment-page-21/#comment-5247517

    ***WARNING: Very long post incoming***

To all you ‘RVP(c) every week’ worshippers…

I did a bit of an analysis of the fpl points output of RVP, Walcott, Bale and Mata. Firstly having a look at each of their PPG. Not surprisingly RVP comes out on top in this category as he’s the highest scorer in the game.

    RVP – 7.04
    Mata – 6.58
    Bale – 6.52
    Walcott – 6.17

However, due to factors out of our control (Rafatation, Wenger/Theo contract dispute etc…) these numbers do not tell the full story. Taking a look at Points per Start, Walcott comes out well on top, with RVP 3rd…

    Walcott – 8.07
    Mata – 7.70
    RVP – 7.61
    Bale – 6.52

Yes, taking a look at their SD’s (a measure of consistency), it is clear that RVP is the most consistent…

    RVP – 4.01
    Mata – 4.45
    Bale – 5.62
    Walcott – 5.71

But, if you play the fixtures etc, then other options will likely be better than RVP.

Another point of view, would be to look at the total points since a) Mata had his rest and b) Walcott became nailed on in GW11.

    a) RVP – 157 @7.14ppg
    Mata – 150 @7.14ppg
    Bale – 134 @7.05ppg

    b) Walcott – 118 @8.43ppg
    RVP – 111 @6.94ppg
    Mata – 96 @6.00ppg
    Bale – 95 @6.79ppg

I hope by reading this you understand that RVP isn’t the be all and end all of FPL. There are other, perhaps superior options out there.

but he's not the highest scorer since walcott became a starter. arsenal at home have scored more goals than united away so rvp is not even playing in a better team (attacking wise). rvp is also against a better defence (qpr@home, 19 gc) than walcott (villa away, 31 gc).

imo you're ignoring the important facts against your opinion and using the ones irrelevant but favoring your opinion.

It's all very convenient knowing who scores more after the gw.

It's simple. If you're not gonig to (C) him almost every week (esp weeks like this one), you shouldn't be owning him.

There are other factors though. Qpr conceding most shots in the box over the last four, Rvp on penalties as well. I think they are both great options this week and I pity anyone who has neither. Still undecided myself.

good points jonty. walcott still wins it for me. he's playing a very dire villa defense whereas rvp is playing a qpr defense that have shut out chelsea, man city and spurs recently. plus the fact that arsenal have had some massive scores at home and I can see this being a high scoring game with benteke grabbing a couple goals which will force arsenal to score at least a few to win

suarez + sagna > rvp + clyne? or that probably doesn't rais enough funds...?

only get one player in that has a possible blank in gw 29. so either get evans or one of giroud/aguero.

then get one player with a game in gw 29 so i'd look at a west brom defender or a norwich defender (if you go with giroud/aguero) and look at lambert or benteke if you go with evans

not cisse! get any of aguero giroud lambert or benteke over cisse imo. he needs to show us some form before he's worth the price tag. and southampton haven't been leaking too many goals recently (not a ton of cs but not many games where they let more than 1 or 2 in)

personally i've gone with giroud for a one week (or maybe two if i think the derby will be high scoring) punt. then will get in one of aguero/suarez/lambert

Well I've taken an eight point hit to get eleven out this week. That was always my plan though, banking on a good double gamweek haul to justify it. Hit treble figures and outscored my nearest rival by thirty, leaving me 88 points ahead now (or 80 minus the hits). My dilemma this week is who to captain. My gut says Bale. My rival and I both have RVP and Walcott. Should I play safe and go with one of them?

            Even simpler,

Points divided by minutes played x 90

I.e. the only reason van persie has a higher score is considerably more minutes played. Now walcott is getting 90 minutes every game so it is imo a very relevant stat

        The Welsh invariably do 🙂

my concern is because they are shite RVP may get a rest. Qpr will pack the defence and try and blank them. And if Nani plays he'll be shooting from everywhere not passing (the last one is a little bit unfounded)

Haven't Swanes put 9 goals past QPR this season (home and away) the latest game being quite recent.

I know villa are poor but... I rate united better than Arseanl and QPR worse than Villa (only just mind).

Also, QPR at home my try and go at united which could suit them.

Time will tell I suppose... 🙂

    Thoughts on Aguero (c) ?

I also own RVP, Walcott and Bale....

I really believe City may belt Chelsea

i'd rate your captain options in this order (from top being best)

      walcott
      rvp

      bale

      aguero

Those claiming RVP(C) is a no brainer are talking BS. Please have a Look at villa's defensive record this season, especially away from home against the top 6.

    Matches: 4
    Goals conceded : 18

RVP may be consistent but that doesn't mean he will outscore the likes of walcott, bale etc. every week.

Remind me again what RVP did against QPR at Olf Trafford ?

RVP hasn't outscored Walcott at all since Walcott started playing full games back around GW11. It's the opposite...

Hi all, just a quick Rmt?

    Bunn
    Zab, Baines, Onouha, Harte (Davies)
    Wally, Punch, Tarrabt, Bale, Mata
    Aguero (Studge, Suarez)

1 Ft with 2.2 in the bank, would you want to get another forward on or save the tranny?

    Studge to Giroud/Cisse?
