In an outstanding debut campaign in England’s top-flight, Rickie Lambert has proven a cut-price Fantasy sensation. Although he’d racked up the goals in the lower divisions, many had initially questioned Lambert’s ability to adapt to the Premier League but he’s done so seamlessly and, as the season progresses, shows little sign of letting up.

In retrospect, the opening three Gameweeks hinted at what was to come. Lambert found the net in the Saints’ defeat at City on the opening weekend of the season and followed that up with a goal and assist in a narrow home loss to United a couple of fixtures later. A brace at home to Villa in Gameweek 6 harvested the first victory of the campaign – whether his side win or lose, he’s still managed to produce.

What’s been most impressive about Lambert is his consistency. He’s registered 141 points, which is third top on the forward standings, despite managing just three sets of double figures all season – he’ played in all of Southampton’s 27 fixtures and has scored or assisted in 13 of those matches. With 12 goals and seven assists accrued, he’s played a part in 19, or 50%, of his side’s goals and has also received 22 bonus points for his endeavours.

In spite of his scoring exploits, it’s somehow taken the arrival of new boss Mauricio Pochettino to finally convince Fantasy managers of Lambert’s worth –as recently as Gameweek 25 he was sitting at a price of 6.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), just 0.4 up on his initial price. The Argentine’s installation seems to have boosted Lambert further, though; he has now scored or assisted in each of his last three – his most consistent run of returns this term and, with a superb set of fixtures to follow, the bandwagon has finally arrived.

Sitting just three points from safety, the Saints are afforded four home games in the next six to boost their chances of survival. QPR, Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham all roll up to St Mary’s and with trips to Norwich and Reading also on the radar, there’s reason for optimism for Pochettino’s troops. Indeed, the Saints’ strength of schedule makes Lambert a season-keeper; with spot-kicks and a share of set-pieces, his current cost of 7.0 continues to look a bargain. Bearing in mind only Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez have managed to outscore him so far for forwards, it’s no surprise to learn that Lambert is the top value player in FPL so far this term.

Another factor in his favour is Pochettino’s selection policy. Jason Puncheon had previously proven a strong fifth midfielder option but while Lambert goes from strength to strength, the winger’s minutes diminish. Puncheon dropped to the bench at Newcastle last weekend and was afforded just 10 minutes in the 4-2 defeat, while fellow midfield option Gaston Ramirez also played the role of second-half sub. With the fixture list smiling so favourably on the Saints, there seems little doubt that if they are to beat the drop, Lambert will play a pivotal part over the final 11 Gameweeks of the season.

All I asked this week was for a decision on the City/Utd games to be made before 11.30am tomorrow.

It looks like that was too much to ask.

Without a definitive yes or no on the City/Utd games being in GW29 I now don't know what to do.

I think I might get a little high.

    OK. Wildcarding.

Mignolet first keeper, but I don't much want to play him for gw31, 32, 33 or 38 (MUN, che, new and tot).

    2nd keeper options:

    a) Vorm (TOT nor wig FUL)
    b) Szczesny (REA wba NOR+EVE) - but stopping me picking another 3 Arsenal players for the DGW.
    c) Al-Habsi (NOR qpr SWA AVL)

Granville, if you are thinking RVP will be rested why are you playing him?
I'm thinking about starting him but not captaining him for what it's worth.
I was convinced he would not play but now I have a sneaky feeling he might start to keep him fresh, he really should not need a rest at the minute and an hour shouldn't do him much harm.

so the award should be off limits to managers that have really good players?

Anyway, you could put the new role that Bale is excelling in down to AVB could you not? Also there are 10 other players in the team and a squad to manage

But the 10 other players are not doing anything special. Most goals that Bale has scored are all solo goals (not simple tapins or 1-2's or team goals). The other 10 players could all be sitting down and Bale would have still scored them goals.

The award shouldnt be off limits to managed that have really good players, but managers like Alex Ferguson have made best use of players like Carrick and Evans who would be very average in any other team.
AVB, on the other hand, has failed to get the best out of any of his other players.
To be honest, I think Bale has gotten the best out of himself, AVB is just riding Bale's wave.

I have 2 FTs this GW, but really don't know where or whether use them. Especially now, that there are bigger chances that RVP will play at least some part vs Norwich.

    My team:

    Cesar
    JEvans - BDvaies - Clyne
    Michu - Bale (C) - Mata - Walcott
RVP - Suarez (VC) - Lambert

    Bunn - Dawson - Guthrie - Pearce

    2 FTs
    0.1 in the bank

would you use at least 1 FT somewhere..?

    B. Suarez to Tevez, then Fellaini to Bale = -8
    C. Clichy to Barnett, then Fellaini to Bale = -8

I've just ditched onouha. I bought into qprs defensive streak but I think they were lucky as they still had an insane amount of shots on their goal. In addition when taraabt missed the pen against Norwich and they only got a draw I think they lost the belief that had been building. Coupled with a doubt over onouha starting due to bosingwa and there are better punts - bassong anyone?

he only bumped into a camera, he was out shopping the following day with his missus, it was a little bruise, I wouldn't really call it a hip or knee injury, he could have carried on playing but Fergie is wrapping him in cotton wool and not taking any risks. He was very injury prone in the past, there is no way he'll risk starting him against Norwich and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't feature at all. At best he'll come on if needed for the last 20 minutes. I give him a 20% chance of playing some part in the Norwich match
