After possibly the most staggering day of Premier League football ever witnessed, today has a lot to live up to. But, being billed as the headline act of the weekend, this afternoon’s match-up at Stamford Bridge certainly has the potential to do so. And rest assured, the Dugout Discussion is here to take you through another roller-coaster day of fantasy football.

This first half of the day’s Premier League action is Birmingham City’s trip to Upton Park, and the team news is in…

Contrasting fortunes see West Ham without Matthew Upson and Jonathan Spector after they were unable to shake off knocks, whereas Roger Johnson, Barry Ferguson and Cameron Jerome all passed late fitness tests to make the starting line-up for Birmingham.

West Ham XI: Green, Jacobsen, Reid, Tomkins, Bridge, O’Neil, Parker, Noble, Obinna, Keane, Piquionne

Birmingham XI: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell, Bentley, Bowyer, Ferguson, Gardner, Jerome, Zigic

Then, at 4pm, a game that had little interest or significance just over a week ago. But with Liverpool’s best player switching sides in a British transfer record, anticipation of this game has been immense. Fernando Torres looks set to make his Chelsea debut and fill the back pages whatever happens today.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

        It is CONFIRMED CANCELLED for it's origianl date in GW 28. The only way you'll know if there is a chance to have it midweek in GW 28 is after Arsenal play in the FA Cup, so mid GW 27.

          Exlcuding you mean 🙂 There are some options in Newcastle/Blackpool as well as 3 total Birmingham and Arsenal players, you can always transfer one out for 28 leaving you with 2 and VDV on the bench.

          If you have Chelsea players you have to count them in too as missing 28 most likely, unless the lose to Everton in the cup.

    Ooops, lost on last post. Very important stuff so i thought it deserved a second chance 😉 ...

    I’ve got absolutely no sympathy for those that got rid of Kolarov before he scored big. There were plenty of people saying that the potential was there, a massive points haul was imminent and that he was a good option for the season.

    The majority of people on here were comletely smug about it and pointing and laughing once they had dropped him and he kept returning one point, making out that he would never come good and we were all mugs for sticking with him.

    Just reward for those that persisted imo.

      Things like that can easily go either way. The fact is he was getting rotated and was poor defensively, and if you're paying 5.7 for a defender you want him to play each week and get CS. Plenty of people who show great potential never live up to it, it's always a question of how long you give them to come good. I originally sold Coleman after weeks of getting benched and not doing anything, and held on to Elmohamady through weeks and weeks of 1 point games.

        Not at all, rotation was pretty much a misconception held on here. He was dropped out of choice in one game, in which Tevez was too. I'd hardly call that getting rotated!

          Of course it's unlucky, that haul could have come anytime in the last 12 weeks. Keeping or getting rid are both justified equally.

          Similarly I was also lucky to have got Huth. This game is probably 75% luck, accept the good/bad luck and move on instead of making daft posts.

            That being the case you might as well shut down this forum 😉

            I don't agree by the way, you choose players that are likely to score well - whether they do or don't is the luck part (and somewhat irrelevant), their potential (although completely elusive) is the judgment part.

            Both Huth and Kolarov were great shouts for this week, whether they got 1 point or 19/11 points. If you talk about the points and not the potential then imo you're missing the point. And the whole points chasing thing on this site is some peoples biggest downfall imo.

            Don't see what is daft about it at all.

        3 points per game even with his 11 point haul yesterday.

          The evidence suggests otherwise.

          I'm not saying it won't happen. But you can only go off what you've seen. And i've seen nothing to suggest he isn't pretty much nailed on. For the games i wouldn't bet against him being safe i wouldn't play him anyway, like this week.

      A post like this is no better than those who were smug after getting off him early before his run of 1s. Having him from the start is nothing to be proud of, you've suffered through a lot of terrible scores from him, the only people who should be gloating are those who got him in within the last few weeks

        Maybe it was unclear. All i'm saying is that those bemoaning their bad luck for getting rid of Kolarov before he scored big don't really have a point if they were gloating over the past few weeks.

        Not gloating about his scores because like you point out, i had him in for lots of 1's.

    If Granville is still about (or anyone), do you know why Mark said Paul Rachubka is now presumably first pick over Kingston? Could it not be that Holloway gave Rachubka a go, they conceeded 5 goals, and so will go back to Kingston until Gilks is back?

      Not sure how many of those goals he was responsible for. Don't know, but the uncertainty is worrying. I had Kingson for the last double and he scored 3 points over 2 games so I wouldn't worry about playing your other keeper. Who is that?

        Gordon. I was hoping to play Kingston for the double just to get some save points. So trading Kingston for Begovic sounds sensible but may need two trades to sort out the Djourou and VDV situation.

      Bentley has the DGW, i'm even considering Gardner over Bentley. I think he's on pens aswell. I'll decide at a later time 🙂

    Great, di Matteo gone, means uncertainty over the team before the Dgw, something I didn't need! Any news on djourou?

      Why? Surely you're only going to consider their best players, Brunt and Odemwingie?

      Hardly going to drop them, is he.

        Plus one, a new manager would be mad not to play those guys.

          might change the system though? They might not be up for it?

          Many more variables to consider than whether they'll start or not?

    Anyone now thinking about dropping Fabregas after GW27 with his current poor returns, or gonna keep the faith for the long haul?

        Considering Fabregas to Lampard for GW28, then Fabregas back in for GW29.

      He will be my (C) for the DGW, see how it goes. Two fabulous games for Fabs to bring in the points.

    Can't believe that I'm not really happy despite a great score this week. Was so close to having kolarov as well as huth but went with Coleman as I bought him much cheaper.
    10 goals scored by my team which is probably my best ever but annoyed there are two on my bench too, and very disappointed by vdv and djourou injuries and fans performance

        Gotta enjoy the positives. I captained VDV over Tevez and had Djourou on my bench, but was still a great week. Glass half full.

    Quick poll...

    a) Rooney & N'Zog -> Fabs & Wingie (no hit)
    b) N'Zog & VDV -> Walcott & Ethers (no hit)
    c) Rooney, N'Zog & Bosingwa -> Fabs, Wingie & R Johnson/Huth (4 point hit)
    d) Something else
