Since Harry Redknapp acquired Rafael Van der Vaart from Real Madrid on the last day of the August transfer window, there has been a nagging doubt in the back of many a Fantasy Manager’s mind regarding a certain Tottenham-owned Welsh wing wonder. Opinion is pretty much split as to whether Spurs’ multitude of creative midfield options means Gareth Bale will predominantly take his place in the starting XI as a full-back or a flying winger.

Owned by an incredible 50% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bosses, Bale is the most popular player in the game, thanks, in part, to his performances in the latter stages of last season and a relatively cheap starting price this time round.

Redknapp has always stated he sees Bale’s long term future as a full-back and the young Welshman definitely offers Spurs more dynamism and creativity from deep than Benoit Assou-Ekotto. So far this league season, Bale has played three full games in midfield, two in defence, and one -against Wigan- where he started in midfield before moving back in the second-half.

So the key question is, how does the shift in position affect Bale’s performance and Fantasy potential? Let’s delve into the the Members’ Opta stats for further analysis.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Foster (Krul)
    O'Shea, Dann, Jones (Enrique, Konchesky)
Bale, Malouda, Nani, Nasri (Ben Arfa)
    Drog, Berba, Chamakh

Changing Chamakh -> Tevez which means Nasri goes to either YaYa Toure or Parker? Do you fancy to do better between those two?

I'd go with Ya Ya.... they got two easy fixtures in a row... West ham Have got decent fixtures but not really scoring many goals.. City will soon start Firing in the goals. The pressure is on now not to drop too many points so City will really go for it.

If you were willing to do 3 changes you could swap Konchesky for say Jara and O'Shea for Cheaper defender (Givet/Nelson) and Chamakh for Tevez... would cost you 8 points but you would Keep Nasri for next Gameweek (saves you a transfer then) when he's likely to get a decent score... One thing I found last year was making 1,2,3, or even 4 Transfers doesn't mean you will score less points a lot of the time if you think it through and the transferred players in a have 2 or 3 good fixtures in a row and the transferred players out have a hard run then the risk normally pays off.

Perfect timing. 🙂 Im set on Drogba. His record and lampard missing seals the deal. Man City havent cut lose yet either. But il see how I am in morning.

Arsenal really seem like a team without leaders this week . If Diaby and Song go missing it could be 2 to 3-0. Btw who will be captain with Fabs, Aluminia, Verma out?

Although I gave him the handband last week it was more to answer the rebel in me and hope all the Liv and Arse lads would fail. 😀

But on a serious note I can see Tevez get 4-9 but Drogba could get anything from 4 - 13.

Its the % move given that City have failed to score alot this year so far bar Liv....

Rosicky will be Captain! Don't rule out the Arsenal. DRogba has done well against Arsenal.. but he looked laboured against city.. reckon he may even be slightly injured.. he got replaced by sturridge with 15 to go and they were 1-0 down.

Why not go the whole hog and captain Gerrard? You obviously think he could score well else you wouldn't have got him in this week. I know Drogba is good against Arsenal, but maybe he's due an average game against them.

Why not delay Gerrard to Fabregas as you then get: eve,BLA

          instead of: BIR,mcy

Birmingham don't let many in and Wenger might ease Fabregas back in like he did against Blackpool.

I think it makes sense to keep Gerrard for the next three weeks. Everton away is a local derby where Stevie G will be pumped up, plus Everton are playing shite and Liverpool invariably come out on top in the Merseyside derbies.

Plus if Stevie G scores well this week you could ride a couple more price rises from him whereas most FPL players will be slow on the uptake of Fabs until he comes back and scores big again. The sheep always miss the first big score.

I'm always on the look out for things like this. I was thinking Drogba to Rooney and then three weeks later, Rooney to Torres.

        This would give you:

WIG,BLA,bpl (Rooney) and then: new,FUL,bpl,WLV,BOL (Torres)

Depending on fitness and form of these guys of course.

Who cares about the odd 0.2 or 0.3 though, we all use Fantasy Tools so get the jump on mini-league rivals price-wise anyway, to more than make up for a bit of dosh lost on Drogba.

Plus you then don't get a couple of 1's and 2's from Drogba over this period, (he won't score against all those teams), and you have a sold captain for 8 gameweeks in a row.

Yeah, this of course depends on what they do in the games leading up to then. If Drogba/Malouda keep on producing then I will bottle it again, but I'm hoping for a dip in form from these two so that I can ditch one.

Although the Wolves game comes after a trip to Moscow in midweek. That game seems like a perfect one for Carlo to rotate his stars.... If, say, Malouda doesn't play in that game then his fixtures are pretty terrible coming up...

Yeah the team is absolutely fine... Bale better have a huge week though!

More on the Chelsea fixtures, it seems as though every decent fixture we have in the next 8 weeks comes at a time when resting players would seem sensible.. Like I said the Wolves game comes after a trip to Moscow, and the back to back home games against Fulham and Sunderland are just 4 days apart, after a week where we'll have had to go to Anfield and played in the CL only 3 days beforehand...

Carlo has been pretty clear with his intentions to rotate the squad, and when the likes of Kalou, Benayoun etc are fit, then I can easily see Malouda sitting out a game or two. Hell, the West Ham game wasn't exactly an easy game, but Carlo still rested Flo Mo and Alex for that one...

Malouda > Nani next week is very very tempting...

Good post about the potential rotation issues surrounding Chelsea players. Carlo's priority is the CL this year, closely followed by the PL, and once Drogba is back from European suspension, (now?), then he is due for a rest in the PL against someone rubbish, and that will anger more than a few FPL managers like when he missed Pompey at home last season and everyone got Bowyer as captain, (he did miss the game due to a sneaky back injury, but still he could be rested just like that nonetheless).

what the fpl 'best fans' thing also can be used as is conclusive proof on whos got the more fans, and is thus the bigger club... which is the cause of many pub arguments.

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/stats.mc?stat=bestfave

    - as we can see, for a big club chelsea are still quite tinpot. closer to spurs than arsenal in the grand scheme of things.

    - big shock: united are much bigger than pool. deluded pool fans, deal with it.

    - west ham are not as big as they claim but still quite big considering (theyre shiet).

    - wigan are the smallest club in the league.

    and so on

I can't remember everyones in full obviously, but I did think you would win last week. The NFL is incredibly unpredictable though, that's why I love it so much.

2-0 good start yes, now the byes kick-in it'll be even more interesting. Do you know what week we play each other without looking?

          Ok fair observation.
Is it worth taking a 4pt hit to offload Etuhu for a £7m Midfielder? Or do I bench Etuhu for a Defender - I have Mummy or L Young to choose from?

Guys, having 2nd thoughts about captaining Gerrard this week now that Arsenal's defence is like Swiss Cheese.

If I back Drogba though then there's no point in bothering with Gerrard.

Not getting Fabs back til GW10, so, is it worth putting armband on Didier, getting Kuyt in for Gerrard and upgrading Kalinic to Berbatov. Berbs would be the season keeper to play with Drogs.

Alternatively, I could not bother with Liverpool and get Etherington and Tevez instead for a 4 pt hit.

I really, really want Tevez or Berbatov is what it really boils down to.

    What say you, good people?

          I'm touched. Thank you Katie.

No point going for Kuyt as I wont want him after BLK game really. Rather have Etherington for the long haul.

Sensible option is to keep Gerrard this week and then ship him out next week, probably for Berbatov, and just do Kalinic to Odemwingie for 0 pt hit.

Yeah, so for a predictable team you could safely anticipate good returns. However, Wigan are not like that and could easily lose 3 or 4 of them, but then beat someone like Arsenal just after it. 😀

just took a snap decision and did a 4 point hit to get odemwingie in for carroll and benched jara. i fancy bolton to score for the 4th away game running and therefore odemwingie as well as freeing up a bit of would need 6 points to break even.
before you say carroll has a great fixture next gw i was having to bench n'zog, so i lose carroll but i get n'zog, so i can deal with that.

good night and good luck. see you in the ffs cup hopefully
