Papiss Cisse is ruled out of Newcastle’s trip to Anzhi due to a virus, though Hatem Ben Arfa is expected to feature for the Magpies. Jermain Defoe looks set to replace Emmanuel Adebayor up top for Tottenham’s trip to Inter, Victor Moses and Ramirez are left out of Chelsea’s Europa League squad to face Steaua Bucharest, while Steve Clarke is hopeful a number of players can shake off minor injuries for West Brom’s home clash with Swansea:

Alan Pardew has confirmed Papiss Cisse has been omitted from Newcastle’s Europa League squad for tonight’s match against Anzhi due to illness. Speaking to the club’s official website yesterday, the Magpies boss revealed:

“Papiss has been sick since Sunday, so myself and the doctor went to see him this morning to see whether we felt he could travel – with me definitely thinking he could. But he didn’t look well, to be honest, so we’ve had to leave him behind unfortunately.”

Cisse has already risen in price in FPL this week, with more than 8,000 managers snapping him up ahead of a crucial home clash with Stoke. Pardew is a little short in striking options right now – he admitted he was somewhat reluctant to take Shola Ameobi to Russia and is concerned the playing conditions could prove problematic to the player’s long-term knee complaint. Ameobi looks in pole position to lead the line against the Potters should Cisse fail to make it, while Hatem Ben Arfa is edging his way back into contention – Pardew confirmed the Frenchman is set to play some part in this evening’s match after hamstring and fitness issues.

Rafa Benitez has decided to omit both Victor Moses and Ramires from Chelsea’s squad to face Steaua Bucharest tonight. Moses has made just two brief sub appearances in the league since helping Nigeria to the African Cup of Nations last month, while Ramires has proven a key member of Benitez’s starting XI, playing 90 minutes in all but one of the last 10 Gameweeks. Yossi Benayoun is back in the squad after a brief ankle problem and could play a part, with Benitez expected to make plenty alterations ahead of the weekend FA Cup Sixth Round clash against United. Demba Ba is, of course, ineligible this evening, having played for Newcastle in the same competition earlier this season and looks likely to edge out Fernando Torres for Sunday afternoon’s trip to Old Trafford.

Jermain Defoe is expected to return to the Tottenham starting line-up for this evening’s Europa League trip to Inter. Reports indicate that Emmanuel Adebayor is thought to only have a “slight chance” of recovering in time from the knee problem that forced him off against Arsenal last Sunday and, while the Togo international should be fit for this weekend’s trip to Liverpool, the San Siro clash could come too soon. Having only just recovered from a recent ankle injury, Defoe looks likely to lead the line for the in-form north London outfit, while Andre Villas-Boas is also set to welcome Mousa Dembele back – the Belgian has recovered from the knee issue sustained against the Gunners and has returned to full training.

Steve Clarke rolled out a substantial injury update yesterday ahead of West Brom’s weekend home game against Swansea. The Baggies boss admitted that, while a handful of his first-team regulars have struggled to train this week, he is confident the situation will have eased off by Saturday:

“Claudio (Yacob) has a knock, hasn’t trained, but should be okay. Steven Reid has a knock, hasn’t trained this week, but he should also be okay. Jonas (Olsson) didn’t train on Monday but trained yesterday and Youssouf Mulumbu had a migraine but he’s fine now. Hopefully everyone will be fine tomorrow.”

Clarke also went on to reveal that Chris Brunt and Shane Long both sustained twisted ankles in the past week. While Long is now “okay” after picking up the problem in last Saturday’s narrow defeat at Chelsea, Brunt – who missed the Stamford Bridge match altogether with the complaint – remains a real doubt; he attempted to return to training earlier in the week but was forced out after the problem played up again.

Brian McDermott rolled out an injury update first thing this morning. The Reading boss has revealed Adam Federici will remain sidelined with the ankle problem that kept him out of last weekend’s trip to Everton – a bitter blow for the Australian’s 5% FPL owners, with some likely to be without a keeper in light of the reduced fixture schedule. Stuart Taylor is set to step in for the Royals, with Alex McCarthy still not ready to return from a shoulder injury. McDermott also admitted Jimmy Kebe remains a doubt with the groin injury that forced him off at Goodison last time out.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Tbf that includes Afro/mata > Sissoko ( ft) , but looking around here my team is looking healthy , I see a lot of -4/-8 so anyone with 10/11 players will be off to a head start.
I planned with my winter wc to be in this position and its nice to have the back up of a wc ,
Mostly tho if ones prepared to listen and stay open minded there's a lot if decent helpful advice on here.

I'd ship Aguero and Kebe, bench Mata, Walcott and RVP, take your chances with Cameron for 11.

In fact, that's almost exactly what I'm doing. I'm getting rid of Silva and Kebe for Sissoko and Sessegnon.

If you got Suarez for Aguero, what would that leave to replace Kebe?

HiTeddy just realised your in L4 (4th) in the LAWR - tough league IMO ,
          Outside of Forca 13 point seperate the top 6 - 1697 > 1684.

      The good will out.

Assuming scores and positions are normally distributed, you need bigger scores to crack the top 1000. Or rather you need to outscore those around you by bigger margins.

Therefore a decent, but not extraordinary, gameweek score will make a big difference in rank in the hundred thousands, but not so big in the hundreds, nor in the millions.

Yeah, it's a bit frustrating, that's for sure! I think it was a case of you making good decisions, mainly from what I see getting Mignolet and Mata in for their golden runs, while I missed out on those. Just a lack consistent decent decisions on my part I suppose as well as some stupid (c) picks. The lead up to Christmas I had an absolute nightmare...

Surprising that I did reasonably well considering I didn't have Michu, Fellaini, Hazard, Ivanovic etc until about 10-15 weeks after everyone else...

Oh and my defence has been woeful for ages now... 😕

Decisions decisions decision - they seem to make or break us obviously , no doubt my early ones were distraous but I settled gathered my thoughts and got a fantastic run of 13 green as you know , I've avoided hits as best as possible , played my winter wc last week possible and I've kept my wc intact ,
Luck has played a part , monitoring fixtures/ form etc but don't underestimate the value of opinions on here good bad and indifferent it all adds to your thought process and aids in making calculated long term decisions. ,
Thanks all for replies / input in this thread u sometimes enjoy this type of thread a little more than some of the repitive stuff but I suppose everything counts.

I got the same dilemma. Since he's my fifth midfielder I'm thinking of keeping and hoping he'll start, since whoever I get in will probably cause benching problems (i.e Sissoko or other good options). We'll get another update in the pressies before the weekend I'm thinking, so holding until then for sure.

not sure about that but its obvious rooney doesnt look after his body as good as the likes of ronaldo etc.

potential wise rooney was better at 17-18. ronnie has made the most of his though while rooney has just settled for being very good rather than the best there is.

Rooney has a role to play and he does it very well. He had the highest ICT index of any other player in the league last gameweek. Even above hattrick heroes Kagawa and Suarez.

That's true. It's probably also true that he was really disappointed that he didn't play against real. That's more likely a reason for him to move on than Utd not wanting him but either way sure he's going nowhere.

He just came back from a sinus infection. He still played against Madrid, even after playing 90 at Norwich. I think SAF was fair. It's not enough for Rooney to move, did you hear the fans chant his name when Cleverley had a knock? How could he leave that fanbase?

Arfa was playing in a struggling team, Sissoko has been playing in a team full of confidence.

Sissoko sample size is too small to give a true reflection of his long-term potential

            Ben Arfa is on pens

Ben Arfa has been out main creative threat when he's played this season.. the prospect of him coming back into a team on the up is fairly exciting

Stats only tell half the story. We rarely agree though, so I'd expect nothing less 🙂

Would you personally go for remy or benteke? i think people are gettin abit carried away with Benteke, his fixtures arent as good as Remys

His form is better though. I've got Benteke. but as I say, you're fine with that front line. Remy certainly has the skills to score well.

Not too crazy, but you might have difficulty getting the players you'd like for DGWs from City, Utd, Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal in the weeks to come.

    @ HVT,

Sorry got caught up in work stuff.

Cheers for previous reply – just not keen on taking a hit for a def this week. I’ll prolly be playing WC within 2/3 weeks so will sort JEvans out then.

In relation to my rank, i’m not sure what happened. I think I held my Christmas WC too long and then didn’t get any benefit from it; either that or I took off my Santy Hat too early 😆

Had also had a great run over christmas – hatricks every week it seemed! Hoping this next WC will see me climb again. Playing with less than 11 every other week clearly isn't helping either

    Puncheon/bale/michu/...
    Sturridge/suarez/fletcher

    Frederici/walcott/mata/azpi

Who can i take for mata?
    Cheers

    Good morning all,
Decided to use me FT, EVRA > BASSONG. I can field 11 (if Kebe plays). Just got enough money to do bego > DeGea and Lambo > RVP (with 4point hit) next week.

Should I take a hit to do kebe > snodgrass?

    Bego
    Enrique Bassong Davies Mariappa
    Kebe? Michu Bale Sissoko
    Suarez(c) Sturridge

Subs: Nothing Rooney Zab Walcott + 7.3m in bank

Many thanks! And good luck everyone

You should wait some news for kebe. Taking a hit for a player like snoodgrass is a huge risk!

      It was so obvious.

It's an almost identical situation to Beckham and Van Nistelrooy.
