A ding-dong battle produced plenty for neutral but relatively little for Fantasy managers as the Arsenal and Everton attacks failed to breakdown the defences on show. Here’s the Stock Check from Tuesday’s Gameweek 33 encounter…

On the Up

The Everton Defence
A fourth clean sheet in five for David Moyes’ rearguard ensured that owners of Leighton Baines and Sylvain Distin fetched strong returns over the double Gameweek. The latter has offered outstanding value, having also registered an assist in the win over QPR for a value of 5.3. Before Gameweek 30, Everton had kept just three shut-outs: despite such humble defensive returns, Baines is now comfortably the top scoring defender in the FPL on 153 points.

Kieran Gibbs & Bacary Sagna
While Arsene Wenger looks set to continue rotating his centre-backs, he chose to retain both Gibbs and Sagna tonight, despite having the option to bring in Nacho Monreal and Carl Jenkinson. Given that tonight’s starting full-backs played back-to-back 90 minutes in the space of three days, it seems they’re now established as Arsene Wenger’s first choice in their respective positions. That presumably consigns both Monreal and Jenkinson to bit part roles. It remains to be seen if Wenger rotates and hands them opportunity at Fulham this weekend.

Going Down

Santi Cazorla
Back-to-back blanks left thousands of Fantasy managers disgruntled as the Spaniard offered paltry returns from the Gameweek captaincy. It’s just one goal in the last six now for Cazorla, and that came in the home clash with Reading. Given his inconsistency, we may now see significant sales of Cazorla with Gareth Bale likely to be “most-wanted†should he regain fitness in time for Tottenham’s now confirmed double in Gameweek 36. Given Cazorla’s captaincy flop, Robin Van Persie’s performance at West Ham tomorrow night could now be crucial to many a mini-league.

Lukas Fabianski
The Pole missed out with a rib injury this evening and, having seen his compatriot, Wojciech Szczesny, keep a shut-out on this return to the starting lineup, it now remains to be seen if Fabianski can earn an recall on his return to fitness.

Gervinho
As expected, the Ivorian made way for the return of Theo Walcott to the starting lineup. The recent run of starts brought strong returns for Gervinho but it’s clear that he’ll face a uphill struggle to regain a role in Wenger’s starting XI having been unused on the bench tonight. Those who held or invested in Gervinho for the double Gameweek will either look to sell on or hope for heavy rotation for the weekend trip to the Cottage.

Marouane Fellaini
The Belgian put on superb showing for Everton tonight but, having been dropped into a central midfield role, the performance is likely to cause anxiety amongst his Fantasy owners. With Leon Osman sidelined, David Moyes will have been delighted with Fellaini’s showing and, while he will be expected to be restored in a more attacking role on Osman’s return, Felliani could well be deployed in the engine room for the visit to Sunderland this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Maybe Davies for me, depending on who I get up front...

If I get Tevez, I might end up with something like:

            Baines Vert GJ
            Bale Walcott Michu ____

No one will play twice, although might get one as they have epic fixtures!

Rooney will have diddly squat to play for, whereas Suarez has just about everything to play for. Also he won't end up in CM...

Tevez most likely to play twice imo and not having 2 rotation prone strikers.

exactly! and someone like nasty or kolarov should play at least one of the dgw fixtures and possible the game after the cup final as well.

                  good point

why do you think tevez is the most likely to play twice?
why not? with two strikers you are bound to have about 3 games worth of time, plus a sub appearance I reckon. so about 210-250 min between two of them

It's not just about the one week though, is it? Suarez WILL play 90 week in, week out...who knows what Mancini will do with Aguero/Tevez/Dzeko?

Also, Suarez is a beast compared to the Citeh strikers and I fancy him to score well for the rest of the season.

Same goes for Kolarov – considering Clichy/Nasty, although with Sagna on the bench Kolarov could be a decent punt.

true. but dzeko is practically the same price as kone!

so it'd be suarez dzeko aguero/tevez frontline

yeah i think kolarov is different. esp cuz right now i'd be getting him in for davies and vert in for baines/enrique giving me a vert dawson kolarov baines/enrique backline

It's really annoying or me as I was holding him up until this week with the knowledge he'd probably get recalled at some point.

      Hart, if anyone.

I think the DGW is only on paper and we should just see City's fixtures as:

      tot, WHM, swa, rdg, NOR

...in which case you'd still back them to do well.

I'm still contemplating selling Silva for Bale though and holding Caz & Wally. Not decided yet!

Anyone else think that increasing parachute payments for relegated teams is a bad idea?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22171365

Granted, there's a disparity between Premier League and Championship wage bills but surely the solution isn't to reward teams getting relegated?

I guess that unless there's an international wage-cap, the Premier League will continue to have astronomical wages and cause these kinds of problems.

Only way to give a fair chance to new promoted clubs. They need certainty. Otherwise they would assume to stay only one year in the Pl, and not be able to offer long term contracts to decent players.

But agreed that 4y is way too long, previous plan was good enough

increasing money over those 4 years increases chances of such teams blowing money on offering mad-cap wages and then being forced to back-track

    Jussi – Bunn

    Zabaleta* – Dawson* – Baines – Wilson – Figueora*

    Bale* – Maloney*/ Gomez * – Pienaar – Snoddy/ Sess – Hazard

    RVP – Lukaku* – Bentekkers

    Few qs:

    1. Keep Lamps or do Lamps > Hazard
    2. Snoddy or Sess
    3. Fellaini or Pienaar

As of 16 April 2013, the following teams have mathematically achieved qualification for the 2013–14 season. They are listed below in alphabetical order.

    Arsenal
Cardiff City (Promoted from the Football League Championship)
    Chelsea
    Everton
    Liverpool
    Manchester City
    Manchester United
    Tottenham Hotspur

does that mean.. 13 clubs still in relegation battle? 😯

You should see what's been going on in the Championship. 9th place Charlton are 6 points off the playoffs and 7 off a relegation place! I think it's impossible for everyone below to overtake them, but 21st place Huddersfield could end up finishing 2 points ahead of them by the end.

West Ham and Southampton are surely safe.

I'd also back Newcastle and Norwich to pick up enough points from the remaining games.

I'm hardly going out on a limb but I'd say Wigan will overtake Stoke by the end of the season and stay up.

They prefer to play 1 out and out striker(Kone) since thats the way Martinez likes to set up his team, and the fact that they are in a relegation battle he does not want to take chances. He should be getting more opportunities to come off the bench and make an impact though.
