Robin Van Persie hits three past Villa as United clinch the title at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney is shifted deeper again as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side register their eighth clean sheet in the last 10 Gameweeks. Elsewhere, Michael Turner is a doubt for Norwich this weekend, Arsenal appeal Olivier Giroud’s red card, while Antolin Alcaraz may miss Wigan’s home game with Tottenham this weekend:

Van Persie Runs Riot to Seal the Title
The Dutchman picked the perfect opportunity to serve up his highest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul of the season last night. A hat-trick and maximum bonus harvested a 17 point return and not only helped United to the title, it enabled Van Persie to overtake Luis Suarez in the race for the Golden Boot. Prior to last week’s double, he had scored once in eight Gameweeks – with strikes against Stoke and West Ham supplementing last night’s haul, he has now scored five times in eight days as Sir Alex Ferguson clinched a 20th league crown for the Red Devils. With the Uruguayan looking set for a lengthy ban, Van Persie now seems unstoppable in his quest to finish his debut season at United as top scorer in the Premier League – he is just six behind last term’s tally of 30 for Arsenal, though now travels to his former club next weekend before playing host to Chelsea. Having faltered over the early part of spring, he’s flourishing once again and with United now needing to win their remaining four matches to set a new points record, Ferguson may well decide against rest and rotation up top as he looks to finish the season with a flourish.

Rooney Drops Deep Again
Having been shifted back up front for the previous match with West Ham, Wayne Rooney’s owners were hopeful of a return to the form that had harvested five goals in six games prior to last week’s double. It wasn’t to be, however, as the former Everton man was deployed in a withdrawn role alongside Michael Carrick, with Shinji Kagawa tucking in behind Van Persie instead. Rooney managed just a single assist and was once more subbed off around the 70 minute mark by his manager –those who chose to invest in him for last week’s ahead of Van Persie will be bitterly disappointed as to how events have since transpired, given he had seem a genuinely viable alternative. At 12.0 in FPL, his owners will be looking to sell and with Luis Suarez owners also shopping for replacements, a frontline shake-up can be expected over the next few days.

Jones’ Versatility Proving Key
With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand both handed the night off, Phil Jones partnered Jonny Evans in central defence but in spite of the alterations, the hosts held steady to register an eighth clean sheet in the last 10 Gameweeks. Even if Ferguson maintains this rest and rotation policy at the back, Jones’ versatility looks set to earn him further game time and perhaps boost his appeal over other United defenders. The last few matches have seen him play at right-back and in central midfield and, having missed the vast majority of the season through injury, fatigue is certainly not an issue for the former Blackburn man.

In Other News
Chris Hughton admitted he is sweating on the availability of Michael Turner after the centre-half was subbed off within 20 minutes of last weekend’s win over Reading.

“We certainly would’ve liked Michael to have stayed on. We’re not sure how bad it is. He’s felt his groin and we’re hoping it will be slight.”

Turner had scored in each of Norwich’s previous couple of Gameweeks before limping off against the Royals and had recently risen in price as a result of his exploits. With a trip to Stoke followed by back-to-back home games with Villa and West Brom, the potential of clean sheets looks enticing for Hughton’s side – Turner’s owners are likely to hold until further prognosis, though Russell Martin is similarly priced at 4.3 in FPL for those looking for a route into the Norwich defence.

Arsenal have confirmed they have appealed Olivier Giroud’s sending off against Fulham on Saturday afternoon. The Frenchman is currently set to serve a three-match suspension, meaning he would miss games against United, QPR and Wigan, to return on the final day of the season against Newcastle but the Gunners are optimistic the ban will be overturned. Giroud’s absence may be set to afford Lukas Podolski a chance to lead the line after Arsene Wenger talked up the German’s capabilities in a central role prior to Giroud’s Craven Cottage dismissal, though Theo Walcott owners are also hoping he can be utilised centrally again after operating on the right flank for the vast majority of the season. The FA are expected to make a decision on the matter later today.

Reports indicate Wigan could be without key defender Antolin Alcaraz for next weekend’s crucial home encounter with Tottenham. The Paraguayan was subbed off after just 15 minutes of last weekend’s defeat at West Ham with a hamstring problem and the initial prognosis is believed to be around seven to 10 days, though he is set for further tests this week in order to ascertain the full extent of the damage. The Latics had conceded just three goals in the previous four with Alcaraz in the first XI after he recovered from a long-term groin injury – with a double Gameweek 36 just around the corner, his presence in the back-three will undoubtedly boost their chances of defensive returns as Roberto Martinez attempts to engineer a last-ditch scramble to safety.

    Tinkamon, regarding your post above, don't you think that at least some of these players very well can handle 70-90 minutes every 4 days for less than two weeks?

    Also, if you are hoping to benefit from City's favourable fixture this week and/or are looking for a Suarez replacement, the choice of a first team player seems more solid since the likes of Dzeko and Kolarov are less likely to feature this week.

    Agree?

        You think Mancini will play him for all 4 games over the 11 days from the Swansea game to the Reading game? Why when he's one of City's form players at the moment?

        I agree Tevez is arguably the best bet for minutes, but will he play more than other non DGW players? Will his team have one eye on the FA cup game and play out boring, meaningless games?

      For this week alone I agree city players are a good choice. Still, I wouldn't assume West Ham will be a walkover as they can be very stubborn away from home.

      I'm sure the likes of Tevez, Aguero, Silva and Kompany CAN play 70-90 minutes every 3/4 days for a couple of weeks but you have to remember that if all goes to plan and they beat West Ham and Swansea, 2nd spot will be pretty much sewn up. They will definitely rest the starting XI for WBA (3 days after the Swansea game) in time for the final since the WBA game is meaningless. The same will happen after the final. The Reading game in meaningless. The reason I'm so confident when I say this is because a lot of City's star players have suffered from injury over the last few weeks and I'm sure he won't risk them in meaningless game, especially since fatigue causes players to be more injury prone.

        Yeah, okey, I do agree with that, although I wouldn't be so sure that for example Kolarov will get more minutes than Clichy during GW35 - GW38. He will definitely make Clichy less attractive as an FPL option, but I just wouldn't choose Kolarov ahead of him. Probably none of them though....

          No, I wouldn't choose either this week, but I reckon Kolarov will outscore Clichy in GW36-37.

          Kolarov: 150-180 minutes, 3-4 points.
          Cliichy: 70-120 minutes 2-3 points

          😉

    All those who are saying hits doesnt pay off are wrong…
    Took a hit two weeks ago and jumped from 148K to 99K with 84 points…
    Took a hit last week and jumped from 99K to 61K with 102 points…

    Now a major dilemma for this week and next week (DGW)…
    I can get two of A) Luiz, B) Vertonghen and C) Hart

    A and B have potential for attacking points along defensive points, C has potenial for defensive and save points… But nothing is guaranteed.

    Please help me in choosing two of A, B and C...

      From what I understand he will play the false 9, ala Messi, menaing Gomez is definitely on his way.

      Still, I struggle to get excited about it. No matter what people say about United's spending power and influence within the EPL, we really can't just buy the best players of our main rivals and yes I haven't counted Arsenal as a 'main rival' for years.

      How are we going to judge Guardiola when he is walking into THAT team, the team who could possibly be European Champions this season, the team who are walking the Bundesliga this year, the team that are signing the best player of their main rival. Pep will need to win the UCL convincingly, beating Barca on the way, for real credit to be given.

      Classic Bayern signing. They've always signed the best young German talent at any prize. I understand they're not very popular within Germany for doing so. I personally think that if you're a club that like spending big money, this is a sound way of doing it.

      That's a hefty fall but I'm more bewildered by your choice not to have ANY of those players. That a deliberate tactic BTT?

      I got what I thought was a very cruel red arrow for a score of 75 (no hits).

        I personally deliberately chose not to have RVP. I have risen dramatically over the last few months without him, but its getting tough to make any headway with him actually performing again. 🙁

          You're over 30k places lower than where you were when you last had RVP in GW23. Very brave to gamble but I never seen it as worth it, guy has too much quality.

            I think its got more to do with captaining players like Kagawa though than not having RVP. I dont think winning is a realistic target for me.

        I was planning to get Bale in next week (and have) presuming he wouldn't play a full game against City. Chose to have Rooney over RVP because I couldn't afford him.
        Did Mata --> Caz for the DGW because Mata wasn't assured game time and had harder fixtures.
        Suarez - got rid of him a while back and wasn't tempted with that 10th YC looming 😕

    Already done Suarez > Tevez. Should i do Michu > Bale for a hit. Will still have 8 DGWers for the following without making any transfers next week. Just trying to gauge whether Bale is worth in excess of 4 points for this week over Michu .

    I read that MUN won the league with 5 games to spare once before. In the final 5 games they won one, drew one, and lost three. I haven't checked that's true, and it doesn't necessarily mean it would happen again, but it's interesting.

    AND Suarez being banned means RVP has the golden boot sewn up - no need for him to play every match?

    AND, as a DDG owner without a backup keeper, I'm also worried that Lindegaard might get a few games now (are the rumours about him needing to play more games to get a medal true?).

      All valid points. Allegedly Fergie's gonna try and win all 5 games to set a points record but only allegedly. He should play Van Persie though, will score plenty now the pressure's off them 😉

        Yeah this points record thing is interesting. If Fergie put out a complete reserve team then he'd be accused of undermining the league (Utd have a couple of matches with teams chasing third/fourth). I think Fergie is talking up how seriously he's going to take the next games to try and head off criticism when he rests players.

        If I was him, I wouldn't be risking an injury to RVP in four meaningless games. Especially when I had two other decent strikers who haven't seen much gametime all season. My guess is that RVP will miss a couple of the matches and/or be subbed early. I won't sell him yet though - if it happens then we're all in the same boat.

        I would sell DDG if I knew he wasn't going to play though. Anyone?

    Fabio Davies Clichy Demel (Harte Guthrie)

    Sessegnon Bale Sissoko Hazard (c)

    Benteke Suarez Van Persie

    Morning guys,

    Looking ahead to the double game week, I need some advice please.

    Only 1 FT, 5.6m in the bank so money's not really an issue. Just need the right players!

    A. Baines -> Vertonghen
    B. Nastasic -> Vertonghen
    C. Berbatov -> Ba
    D. Berbatov -> Kone

    Any of the above worth doing?

    Robles
    Dawson - Nastasic - Baines
    Walcott - Maloney - Michu - Bale
    Defoe - Berbatov - Tevez

    de Gea - Fellaini - Sagna - Demel
