Weekly Fantasy games come into their own when the season enters the closing stages and the interest of those cast adrift in mini-leagues starts to waver. PlayON is a weekly Fantasy offering that’s newly arrived on our radars, having come out of beta to be released publicly in the last month. After a few weeks dabbling with what it has to offer, we thought we’d get involved and bring it to your attention.

What is PlayON?

The concept of PlayON is beautifully simple, although there is a welcome level of depth underpinning the game that perhaps other weekly games have lacked; a factor that will appeal to the more seasoned Fantasy manager.

You pick a starting eleven from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Easy.

The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge. You can resave your team as many times as you want right up to 10 minutes before the first kick-off. It’s your last saved team that gets entered into all your games.

Once your team is built, this can then be used to enter a number of multiplayer games or one-on-one challenges. You can play a free multiplayer game without making a deposit or just challenge another player for fun.

Alternatively, you can play for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings – this week there’s a £1,000 guaranteed pot for a £2 entry. Similarly, you can challenge another player one-on-one with a slider used to select the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged.

Why Should I Play?

Apart from the pricing system giving the knowledgeable Fantasy manager an edge, PlayON’s scoring system plays into the hands of those familiar and comfortable with statistics.

While goals, assists and clean sheets all contribute big points to your players’ totals, you also score points for shots on target, saves, interceptions, clearances and tackles. All the data is gathered from Opta so, those Scout visitors who have access to our Members area will have a real edge when it comes to team selection. Using our tables and player comparison tool, you can quickly begin to unearth some gems when you couple this with the player pricing.

The live matchday experience is also rather good. Once the matches kick-off, you can watch a live feed of the match events that effect your team with your points totting up as they roll in, vidiprinter style. The standings in your games are also updated live so you can see how you’re faring and if you’re currently in the money.

The game is also developing communities of players, united under their own club. Simply choose the club you wish to represent. Each week you play your team points get added to your club total. In addition, the top points scorer from each club represents the club in the “League of Titans” the following week.

Every 10 weeks, the top two teams in each division are promoted and the bottom 2 teams are relegated.

How Do I Start?

It’s all pretty easy. Register an account at PlayON at www.playon.co.uk. You don’t have to make a deposit as you can play the free multiplayer games without shelling out.

We’ve been set up as Ambassadors in the game along with Fowler, Southgate and OptaJoe. This doesn’t mean we’ll be handing out ferrero rocher before the match but it does mean we get a fancy badge and can set up multiplayer games and be challenged for one-on-ones.

We have a Fantasy Football Scout free multiplayer game running that all can join and you can find us and challenge our team to a one-on-one game for £1. You can also easily create your own games for you and a group of mates.

You’ll also find the Fantasy Football Scout team in the “Ambassadors Game” which has a prize pot of over £1000 and is just £2.20 to enter. We’ve entered that over the last two weeks and have been in profit. For those who fancy waging some cash to win some cash, this is the route we recommend.

With the knowledge in the Fantasy Football Scout community, we’d expect to see some familiar names up there on the leader board come Saturday afternoon.

As a new game in the Fantasy market, we’d be interested to get your feedback on the game. We’ve enjoyed our experience so far and, as we look for new games to support next season, PlayON is certainly in the running.

PlayON, like many weekly Fantasy games, is a form of gambling so you have to be aged over 18 and over to play and, if you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The 3 match would have begun immediately, it was only the 7 match which was subject to appeal i.e. could be delayed.

the appeal was only for the additional 7 games. he was banned for 3 games regardless, so the ban would still begin immediately.

Ba might play more minutes in the double than Torres. Both frustrating to own though. If you have Aguero definitely don't sell.

      Cazorla > Hazard/Bale/Dempsey over Theo.

If you get a Grav it needs to be this.

Rooney owners, are you keeping or shifting?

I have already made my 2FTs and thinking of -4 for Tevez,

    current from 8 below::

Bale (c) Hazard, Cazorla, Fellaini (Schneiderlin)
    Berb, Defoe, Rooney

No, I'm no closer now than I was yesterday.

They all come with such severe drawbacks, perhaps it's better after all to just get a great single gameweeker.

There are few differentials between myself (top of the league) and my closet rival (44 points behind), and I am comfortably clear of 3rd place (approx. 100 points behind me).

Do I swap Walcott for Mata for -4 to close a (potentially scary) differential this week?

ok lads here is my problem, current team

    DDG (Robles)
    Nasty, Baines, Dawson (Sagna, Demel)
    Fellaini, Bale(c) Michu, Pienaar (Maloney)
    RvP, Berba, Tevez

    0FTs 2.9 in bank

Looking at a hit to shift either Pienaar or Berba for a DGWer. Can't afford Mata or Hazard. So which of these options looks best
    a) Fellaini to Mata
    b) Berba to Defoe
    c) Fellaini to Lampard
    d) Nothing, get Mata in for Pienaar next week after freeing up funds and re-asses Berba and Defoe?

If Fellaini plays in the hole versus Fulham then he could score a few.
Berbatov has a very nice fixture in GW36 so I wouldn't get rid.
Lampard probably won't start against Swansea

I think it is strange how United fans will cheer Ronaldo even though he left for Madrid (a team that we hate) but Arsenal fans won't cheer RVP even though in my eyes, he was a better player than even Bergkamp. I think Utd fans are more realistic, we knew Ronaldo wanted to play in La Liga and accepted it. However, Arsenal won't accept that RVP gave so many years to them but needed to win his title.

The point is, if RVP was still at Arsenal this season, he'd be a free agent in a few weeks.

also true, he had stated he wouldn't sign a new one. I'm sure Wenger didn't want to sell him, but getting what now amounts to just over £25m for a 29 year old with a history of injury problems in the last year of his contract is pretty good business IMO. Arsenal fans would do well to see that.

of course the tradeoff was that they ended up with Giroud

It's more a case of, Arsenal fans felt that RvP could have won the title with them I feel. We appreciate what CR7 did for us (and likewise he appreciates what we did for him) and we didn't begrudge him the move, as much as we obviously would have loved him to stay.

Despite not having won anything for 7 years, Arsenal fans still believe in their teams automatic success, it's almost Liverpoolesque

Well RVP went to a direct Premier League rival, instead of being loyal to the club he spent years with. Only in recent years did RVP become a player who truly lived up to his potential and much of that is due to Wenger. I think it was poor on his part to turn his back on the club and run to greener pastures.

Ronaldo leaving United for Real has a much more direct comparison in Cesc leaving for Barca than RVP... but personally i bear him no ill will - the club have proven in recent years that they simply aren't prepared to spend the kind of money it requires to build a title winning team, and despite all the injuries, he'd been at the club for 8 years.... Samir Nasri on the other hand....

this is my repost in reply to saata:

i have exactly same problem (Maloney or Berbatov). currently leaning towards Maloney, because when i see their points looks not different enough, i use PPI comparisons (last 6 gameweeks):

      Maloney:
      12
      25
      12
      27
      5
      10

      Berbatov:
      34
      21
      7
      -8
      -6
      3

Maloney is more consistent at the moment so it looks likely to get BP at least if they get 2 points only…

      Maybe this will help you

But i’m not sure enough, because i'm also still thinking and thinking about this.

Good reasons to get Aguero over Defoe? Will have Tevez and Bale. If i get Aguero i cant get another City defender for the run-in, does doubling up really make sense with his injury woes, possible lack of motivation along with the cup final?

Defoe ahead of Kun especially when you have Tevez. More motivation/incentive in the PL and not coming back from an injury with a cup final to be fit for.

Yeah. Besides, looking at City`s remaining fixtures, a defensive doubleup could very well be profitable. I know Aguero finished strong last season, but honestly he`s been pretty poor for much of this season.

True I suppose that was in my thoughts too because I listened to the scoutcast this morning prior to watching the videa. He seemed fairly sure on Milner and Silva then seemed to stutter and blink when he said Aguero. I could be totally wrong and reading something thats not there also.

I think he's significantly better than all the popular mid priced options. I'd get Aguero if I could, but it would mean that I can't afford a Chelsea midfielder next week and I don't think it's worth it then.

    Quick question...

as part of my dgw 36 team im looking at bringing Joe Hart in for Jussi for the sake of argument for a hit because I would be doing Jussi > Hart & Riether > Dawson (i think).

Is there any value to be added by bringing in Hart for Jussi this week to bring me to an 8pt hit total?

My other tfrs are Walcott > Bale & Suarez > Tevez.

The Walcott one pained me a bit but if Silva is declared fit as stated his West Ham, Swansea, West Brom vs Walcott's United, QPR looks more impressive.

Is it worth 8 points to bring in Bale, and for whom?

Current lot is Fellani, Michu, Mata, Walcott, Maloney.

Probably selling Baines to fund the move.

Evans may not start since Fergie stated he'll recall rio & vida for the game. Also its risky going without Bale this week.

I would start Bunn and Michu ahead of Kone and DDG.

Be wary of Utd defensive rotation. Hazard played 60mins last night, so it's anyone's guess if he'll start.
