With a break from Premier League action this weekend, we’re presented with some breathing space to allow us to take stock and assess strategies for success for the remaining Gameweeks.

This season has seen the evolution of template midfields and attacks with the same names rotation across thousands of Fantasy squads. As a result the defence has become a key area for differentials and while clean sheets have been hard to come by all season, the quest for defenders who can return attacking points and Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus, remains a key one.

In this latest Numbers Game article for Members, we take a look at the Gameweek OPTA statistics gathered over the past four Gameweeks to analyse those defenders who have offered the best potential in these areas.

    Anyone got a kindle?

    I just downloaded the app for me phone and downloaded a "sample" of the Band of Brothers book. It seems as though it's the full book so I guess the sample is on a timer? Anyone have any idea how long it stays for?

    Is it wrong of me to have both A Cole and Vidic on my team? I thought at the start since they have the most points I'd pick them, but thinking now that could be money spent on midfielders or strikers who earn a lot more.
    Besides them I have Bardsley, Huth and Foley (best defender at £4.0)

      I would posit that, although he is an unknown proposition, Walker could well be a better defender than Foley, and also costs 4 million.

      I would but then... Even if you take the lead I'll come back. Literally was about to post about this...

      On ultimate team. 2-0 down after 10 minutes, Oh dear, this is going to be a rout (thinks to self), guy starts being smug, should've gone 4-0 up.... Second half, I come back into it a little bit, but then he plays keep ball for a while. 88 minutes gone, still 2-0 down, BOOM! Goal! To me Carew makes it with a great run... So he gets the ball from kick off and decides to just give it to his defenders and not move!!! (NOOB) Then 90 minutes gone, he takes me out with my back to goal but manage to get the ball out to the winger, and advantage played. Carew at the far post.............................. GOAL!!!!!!!! I GO MENTAL! Then from kick off he tries to play it round me.... I run up the pitch and SCOREE!! (The third goal is just a bleur to me now) I GO MENTALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Cue several abusive messages from me*

        Is there a such thing as form in fifa for you guys?

        Certainly is for me. At one stage I had 60 wins, 20 losses, then I became awful for a while and I think I'm 90-70 now.

        I'm probably doing Fabs > Cahill for GW 28.

        It's logical on so many levels except one - form. Hopefully, tomorrow we'll know more about Everton and if they're any good at all.

          Getting rid of Fabregas for Cahill would allow me to get Dzeko in for Odem and double up on City for a week or two, which I like.

          But I have a feeling a big score is coming from Cesc, so I'm undecided.

          ive put the group fixtures on a little excel spreadsheet then worked out the how i might use the 40 transfers. e.g march 1st 2 australians in 2 new zealanders out. then i'll decide on the day which actual players will make up those transfers.

              bent has the fixtures and proven ability to score but I guess it just burns that sturridge confirmed my thoughts about him with another goal and 3 bp's yet i went with the more expensive bent who returned an assist vs the worst defence in the league.
              My plan was this week to do fab and odem to meireiles and tevez but having a look now i can do bentley and bent to barton and tevez, then next week odem to sturridge. Would let me keep fabregas for gw30 onwards, seems the go I think.

    Interesting stat - every time Aston Villa have won this season A.Young has been in the fpl points. Only time he hasn't scored or assisted he got 3 bps.
    In 23 games he's got 4 goals, 6 assists, 16 bps.
    1 goal, 6 assists, 10 bps have come in their 7 wins.

        sorry for the late reply "back on the horse", I have bent, chose him over sturridge last week but I plan trade him for sturridge gw29.
        I'm not convinced either is worth it even with their nice fixtures. Villa just don't create enough. Out of the 2 I'd prefer young.

      I really want some Chelsea action from gw32 with nice fixtures and at least one (probably 2) dgw's to come. Hard to justify 9.4 - 12 for malouda/torres/drogba so Luiz could be the go. Might even double up on the chelsea defense for the run in.

        For some reason, Champ, Malouda seems to continue to score heavy in the Metro game. Not sure why you'd have him in the FPL though.
        Drogba and Torres need to show some form.

              I still see them as the best defence in the league. From gw 32 - WIG, wba, WHM, TOT, utd, NEW, eve. 5 cs from 7 seems likely imo and throw in a home match v brum to make a nice dgw along the way.
              Could be worth cech and ivan/luiz imo, dunno at least one though.

                    yeah sounds like a cracking game that.
                    Just a rough example above of how i could fit em in, would probably rather djourou to kelly, walcott and cahill could be sold around gw33/34. Selling fabs this week, he's not worth the cash imo. Yeah he'll score well of course but I reckon there's more points to be had without him.

        a fair few of us binned berbs for Odemwingie for the double. I guess we need to see how things settle. This week will be about getting 11 playing, so the next free transfer decision is weeks off.

      The thought of two Chelsea double gameweeks a bit later in the season is exciting too... might be the time for the revenge of fat frank.

      Incidently, Everton are a crazy 6/1 on Betfair, I've backed them to lay later (if they go a goal up)...

        Everton might be worth a shout as Moyes was livid with their last performance against Bolton. He will certainly field his strongest possible line up and with Chelsea finding it hard to score it is a very tempting bet. If Evrton win it will suit me as I already have 3 Utd players in my team and none from Chelsea
