As expected, Chelsea have confirmed the re-appointment of Jose Mourinho on a four-year contract. The Portuguese manager will return to Stamford Bridge after finishing his stint at Real Madrid only yesterday and fills the vacancy left by Rafa Benitez’s departure to Italian outfit Napoli.

The club’s Chief Executive, Ron Gourlay, announced earlier this afternoon:

“I am delighted to welcome Jose back to Chelsea. His continued success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate.It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future and Jose is our number one choice as we believe he is the right manager to do just that. He was and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again.”

Mourinho will be presented to the press officially on Monday June 10 and his return to these shores will certainly add a little more spice to the Premier League as the Blues plot to overhaul both Manchester clubs at the top of the table. We’ll have more on Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge in a forthcoming “Moving Target” report later in the week.

Big news to have Mourinho back.

Definitely picking a Chelsea defender next season. I'm thinking the old habits of cheap and cheap keepers may reach their end. If Cech is less than 7.0 I might pick him up and have a deadweight for the rest of the season.

A Chelsea mid (Hazard or Mata) is more or less a must for me too. Going to be an interesting season...

    He was though, that was partly why he was unpopular (though probably behind the exhausting controversy with Casillas, Pepe et al). Counterattacking was and always has been his modus operandi. A surprising number of their goals came immediately following opposition corners.

  The wheels fell off the Madrid wagon a while ago now and it became an internal battle at the club. Mourinho's ego probably contributed to most of it but I wouldn't judge this season on his ability to built a good defence.

  I found it quite "pointless", there's a live portion which you can always make a joker and change at the last moment (say its a penalty or a fk cuming up or sumbdy going 1v1), doesnt appeal that much coz sumbdy will be doing it for sure and I wont even get to see the matches probably. And a cycle for a prize, really? :-S

I am not feeling this mourinho return. I remember him leaving back in 07 and being over joyed, I just don't see the match up working this time round. I reckon they will h a fast chance but I am starting to wonder how mourinho will react if/when pressure start mounting.

  Agree. Mad about the Mandarin-twist. And see no reason why they did avoid it for another one of those generate-villains. They needed to start introducing more of the "magic" part, especially if they hope to introduce Doctor Strange at some point as well..
