In Development – HomeCrowd – Update & Preview

HomeCrowd, the new comment system for Fantasy Football Scout, is due to launch in the next few days following a final test by our newly recruited team of moderators.

We have a few minor bugs to fix this week and are looking to launch either Wednesday or Thursday. This is subject to change – if we fail to make Thursday, we will likely slip over to Monday of the following week.

In preparation, a new Community Guide section has now been written and is available to read here. This outlines how you can get the best out of the new functions HomeCrowd has to offer in addition to re-iterating the rules regarding comment posting.

In addition, so that you can get an early view of HomeCrowd, we’ve created a preview movie below, outlining the features that will be available when we go live.

Our moderation team is still in training, limbering up and leafing through the community guidelines and moderator’s guide that we’re currently piecing together.

We are delighted to announce that our initial moderating team is: Spencer, Ryan, In Like Flynn, Gaz Downright, Evs, Green Windmill, Tinkerman, In Tommy We Trust, Applebonkers and TorresMagic.

All are well respected members of the community, who since being appointed have already provided sterling work behind the scenes in helping to launch HomeCrowd and ensuring its success.

Bullet point 3_ No posting if it's intended to provoke a reaction!

Well what the hell is an argument and diverse view points. I can post an argument that is exactly that .provocative and contentious. That is normal human comparatives. Ridiculous phrasing and will give stagnant view points like an old boys club in old Tory drinking clubs. Jeees.

Bullet point 6_ Off topic talk removed at Mods discretion.

Well guess the hierarchy have all bases covered here don't they. I like the posts that are off topic to the FF debate. I like the odd drunken banter after a game on footy and other off topic matters.

I hope the Mods remember that the football structure in our game is working class orientated and not a matter of bigoted opinions revolving around old gits playing FF..

  I find this whole Homecrowd circus ridiculous. Posters are treated as unruly schoolkids, which they aren't. We all love small talk about football, FF as well as our day-to-day life - now they add mods, upvotes and downvotes to this simple thing.
  
  And probably the site will become clumsier if HC is released. I won't probably be evem able to load the page on my phone, which I can do in seconds, atm.

    I thInk any post you get, can be removed, because any one of your bullets can cover the removal.
    
    That is what worries me. Is my Pic of Amy in trouble? Is linking to one of her greatest performances in trouble? Is being a dick when I'm drunk in trouble? Is commenting about the popularity of the EDL in trouble. Is revolting against the dirty money coming into our game a step too far.
    
    I suppose the water has to be tested for all the mainstay on this site, newbies like me and newcomers.

  I know this was posted a while ago but here's my personal opinion:
  
  It's not in Mark's interest to kill the discussion on this site. In fact, the new changes are designed to improve the comments section of the site and I think the guidelines reflect that.
  
  I think the key word in the third rule (also mentioned in the "Using your vote wisely" section in the guidelines) is "negative".
  
  I think that the work the mods do will reflect the opinions of the community as we will often be looking at how people react to posts as an indicator to whether/how we should act. If you're trying to get a positive reaction and make a valuable addition to the discussion, everyone will see that and vote it up, and we (the mods) have the option to reflect that by stickying and/or making it a hot topic.
  
  In short: the cream rises to the top, the stuff no-one like to see falls to the bottom. I'm sure the benefits of HomeCrowd will be there for everyone to see.

      I'm sure it will take a bit of time for people to get used to and get their heads around (it took us a while too) but I honestly think it will improve the site.
      
      I also think that the changes won't be as drastic as many are expecting. HomeCrowd will just allow the good stuff to be found more easily without the bad stuff getting in the way. Its genius is in its simplicity.

  Hi Pinkfish. I've rewritten that point slightly now - what we're getting at with this is deliberate attempts to provoke an extreme or negative reaction - in other words, trolling. Even in these cases, we will likely let the discussion develop before any action is taken. Some attempts at trolling turn into good discussions. Others get nasty. We'll use common sense here but, when we are forced to moderate or remove, we obviously need a ruling to refer to.
  
  In terms of off topic, we will remain relaxed as we don't want to stifle personality but there are times when off topic stuff can be disruptive - particularly if its wildly off topic and at a peak period. Again, we'll use common sense here.
  
  It's important to stress that we've brought a community manager on board who has been in this community for many many years. We've also got a moderation team with similar experience.
  
  The rules are there to refer to when we need them - they won't be used to stifle what we've got, they'll be there to ensure that the community is run better and that disruptive influences are managed.
  
  We could have sneaked these out and 99% of folk would not even be aware of any change because, in the years I've run this site, I think I've referred about 20 users to our existing T&C's (we've always had rules). Instead, we wanted to show these to folk and, where feedback is raised, we will change and edit as I have done here.
  
  I'm sure we'll make mistakes along the way but I'm confident that, in the long term, we're going to be able to make the community even stronger.

    I fully accept that you are bringing them in to make the interaction between members run smoother and perhaps clear some clutter.
    
    I feel I'm always apologizing for my wording but I am a persistent drink and post merchant sometimes and will cringe when I read back some things in the light of a solvent day! Something I am limiting now.

Taking into account all the rumors that have been around, and moves that might actually be possible, I'm looking at this Arsenal XI for the next season.

Szczesny.
Jenkinson-Koscielny-Williams/Mertesacker-Gibbs/Monreal.
Arteta/Wilshere-Fabregas.
Walcott-Rooney/Ox-Cazorla.
Jovetic/Higuain.
(4-2-3-1)

:I know it is a bit too optimistic, but I feel we will surely see two among Rooney, Jovetic and Fabregas. A centre back if Vermaelen leaves. A right back if Sagna leaves.

What d y'all think?

    Ox is destined to become a central midfielder, Wenger said so himself. That pace and power will do wonders in the middle of the park.
    
    Rooney will never come to Arsenal. Ridiculous notion. His wage demands alone is a deal breaker.
    
    Wenger won't pay 25-30M for a 2nd striker like Jovetic. Juve can have him.
    
    We should get rid of the deadwood first before buying. 5 scrubs left to sell.

        Here's hoping. We need to take that next step - now that we have cash to burn and stability is very much in place within the club. Also, it looks like nobody major is leaving this sumer; a welcome respite from the past few transfer windows.

        Brighton. But not rabidly. I enjoy football. I'm far from knowledgeable compared to very many on here.
        
        I find some dedicated fans watch there team play with blinkers on, they can do no wrong and every decision against them must be wrong.
        They can be impossible people to have proper chat to.
        
        Worst is when a player of their's who was "GOD" leaves for another club.

        Yup, zero expectations. Anything more than that is a bonus... I suppose losing a negative is a positive, so we've already gained by losing Arsh/Squillaci/Denilson.
        
        I'm treating all that talk as just talk, obviously if Higuain or Cavani were up for it I'd drive them to the Emirates but it's a bizarre thought that we'd be at the top of their wishlist.
        
        I have a little dream of us signing Keisuke Honda as the long term Arteta replacement... he wouldn't even be that expensive and it would be an upgrade from playing from CSKA. A man can dream...

        I'm liking the clear-out that AW will be doing this summer - Arshavin, Squillaci, and Denilson have already left. Bendtner, Chamakh, Park, Djourou, and Santos hopefully next to be booted out.
        
        A large portion of the wage budget will be freed up; hopefully this leads to a couple of major signings.

      I really hope we don't sign Williams. I just don't think he is good enough a the top level. We need a new cb regardless of whether or not been stays I would rather see someone like, pappadopolous, someone who's young and can learn from mert's experience and doesn't sitting on the bench for 2-3 years.
      
      I actually don't think fab's that much of a priority. We hav e so much competition in that area of the field.

        I think Ashley would be a decent signing. Kos and Mert as the established starters with TV5 and Williams as rotators. Experienced in the Prem and a very vocal player on the field.
        
        Papadopoulos would be too pricey to be a bench signing. Plus the Greek man-child is apparently headed to Liverpool, if early reports are to be believed.
        
        Let's save the dosh for the forwards.

        He needs more gametime before the WC to establish his place in the national side. After all, not every team has Vermaelen, Vertonghen and Kompany as their centre halves.

        3rd choice. TV5 doesn't deserve to start after that horrible season. He has to earn his place back. Kos and Mert were absolute rocks during the key run-in that earned us 4th.

        That's true - I personally want Vermalen to get another season at Arsenal, he can still do well.
        
        I don't think a midfield signing will be an excess. After all, Diaby, Rosicky and Arteta don't have many seasons left. Wilshere and Ramsey are our onlu holding milcs for the future.

        I really don't think verm will get a starting place at the back if kos and mert keep up their form. Personally I would like to try out the luiz experiment on him.

    Singh got in as a sub for Eikrem during the training and I think he'll start, Nielsen got in for de Lanlay. But personally I hope de Lanlay starts, really hoping he gets to play some during the tournament.
    Worth noting that Berge and Strandberg started in central defence. Strandberg has been announced as the captain for the tournament, but there might still be rotation on the other spot. Hedenstad should be nailed on being the only one who can play left back.

  He is fast, has a fair end product (very good crosser), but I think he's a bit lightweight, both physically and mentally. Have you heard about his travel sickness, he spent a while asking not to be picked for Spain as he couldn't leave home, I don't know how that's gonna work now. Could be an assist demon if he has his head right, but I'm not expecting much.
