Fantasy Premier League Tease “Ultimate” Game

The Fantasy Premier League registration pages have been updated today and with it came the news that a new game is on the horizon.

According to the released information, “Ultimate Fantasy Premier League” will be a pay to play game that will deliver a new squad-based experience.

Fantasy managers will select a 25-man squad with a budget of £160 million at their disposal. A prize pot of £15,000 is promised, with £1,000 available to monthly winners – the first time that the Fantasy Premier League have offered cash prizes.

The game promises to deliver the “Ultimate Fantasy Football Challenge” but, aside from these few nuggets, no further information on the game is confirmed.

With the Fantasy Premier League closing in on a launch, we’re now also waiting on more details on this new game, which promises to add a whole new dimension to our seasons.

We’ll look to bring you more information in the next week or so.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          14 goals in 30, is almost 1 in 2

          That's not a bad record.

It's not on Bony level though

Yep but keep in mind he was playing in the second division of the spanish league and that he was playing in a false 9 position (which gets him a lot of goals and assists, and i doubt he would be played there directly, much less actually start that many games)

Paulinho's numbers are really interesting. I still think he'll fall into Yaya territory of reliable but always a better on form option available but one to monitor.

think that's because their supplier doesn't bother with eredivisie. same for the portguese league. examples are van ginkel and moutinho showing as 0 assists every season

For me, the stand out performers / ones to watch/possibly select are:

Luis Alberto (not likely to be a regular though?)
Dwight Gayle (really impressive tally, even if it is in the lower leagues, contributing to 29 goals in 44. That's some Rickie Lambert ish! Anyone know if he will be on pens?)
      Paulinho
      Bony
Altidore (still not sure he will cut it in the prem, but now they are looking at Giaccherini and have Johnson, Sunderland could be providing him service)
RVW (I have always liked him anyway)
GEORGE BOYD! (If this man is classed as a Midfielder (there's a chance), he is 100% in my team!)

'Marco is one of the best prospects in European football now,' the Portuguese continued. 'We were following him for some time. He has potential and time will help him to settle down and adapt. We are very happy, he is a kid with a great future and Chelsea is investing in the long term [but also] we want to do important things now.

seems all about the future rather than the immediate to me

He's being lined up to succeed Lampard. I think Mourinho sees value in having him train with him week in week out, get some game time in the Prem League and run outs in cups. He'll learn alot from that. Think its a smart move.

Thinking about this logically, the new game is basically FPL and EA trying to muscle in on the 'cash league' element of FPL.

It's actually quite shrewd. Pitch at an affordable cost and offer massive returns (if only for winners) and the fiver that folk may put on an arranged 25 player cash league now becomes a lot more official and looked after by the FPL.

Was only a matter of time before they went down the pay to play route.
Might take some of the allure of our great game away as it will split the user base

I suppose you could athue that more variety is better , however its not easy to concentrate on more than one game , and it could also be the beginning of the end for the free game we love

I think they would view the free game as a feeder to get people interested in playing fantasy football, who might then get intetested in playing the paid for game. The 2 games are therefore complementary and should not cannibalise from each other.

Also, the money they get from fpl is a drop in the ocean compared to broadcast rights and sponsorship. They do this to generate interest in the product (i.e. the Premier League), not to raise money.

A lot of people have already been running pay to play mini leagues within the new game will essentially be a giant mini league with slightly different rules. It will be interesting to see the numbers they get. I would imagine they will only offer it in UK & Ireland to save hassle on the various gambling laws around the world so that immediately cuts the regular game numbers in half. If they get near 10k people in UFPL I think they will be delighted and as long as its a tenner or less I think they probably will.

It look to be an extra game that's tailor made for the experienced fantasy managers. There's no indication at all that FPL's free game will end. That has more than 2m players globally, no chance that'll change.
