Hull City boss Steve Bruce added to his forward options late last week by acquiring Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland. The former Swansea man is the club’s seventh signing of the summer and follows the likes of Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa and Ahmed Elmohamady to the KC Stadium as The Tigers prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour under Paolo Di Canio after just six months at Sunderland, Graham’s security of game time looks set for a significant increase in the season ahead. Judging by his new manager’s comments, it’s clear that Bruce – who has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of 2013/14 – is a huge fan of the 27-year-old:

Here's a very different RMT I feel and one I think that would do surprisingly well.

    Hart, McGregor

Zabaleta, Kompany, Baines, Koscielny or Mert, Coleman

    Bale, Walcott, Morrison, Koren, Thomas

Lambert, Berbatov, Anelka (or Long for 1m more)

    £99m (or £100m)

I feel there's a lot of value in the premium defenders this year as the difference between any 4.5 and Kompany is bigger than the difference you gain from a player who'se worth 2 million more in midfield. Kompany's the one player I am surprised we haven't seen in more RMTs. I think I would end up playing 4 defenders about half the time and 3 the rest. Bale would end up being the captain most weeks, Walcott in gw3 and 10 and 12 if I haven't got any better options by then. The massive drawback is the lack of flexibility in the attack preventing a van Persie purchase without about 3 wholesale changes. Also, the lack of ability to get a CIty attacker as I already have 3 City.

Obviously things will change but I'm definitely considering spending more in defence this year. Any one else considering doing the same?

The trick is to forget all this "heavy hitting defender lark"...Baines is a peg on the board who will get you 170-180 points for 7.0 mill of your budget...same with Vert...Doesn't matter where they play.

All things being equal, £s spent on players you aren't going to captain should return more points spent in goal/defence than in midfield or up front.

The sticking point is that those expensive defenders will safely and predictably get good points, whereas some surprise cheap defenders will inevitably do well enough to outstrip them in terms of value. Also smart use of cheap defensive rotation can add value. And you'll have loads of money sat on the bench if you only play 3 of those expensive defenders.

Another thing to consider is that while the new BPS system favours defenders more than before (especially CBs), it will probably be more likely for a CB in teams which tend to win 1-0 or draw 0-0 to come away from a match with actual BPs awarded than a CB in a team which has won by a lot. ie. Kompany will consistently score high BPS in the course of a game, but if his team has just stuck 3 or 4 in at the other end he still might struggle to come out of it with any BPs awarded.

Also, Mignolet should definitely return better value than Hart.

defensively are you guys looking at a 2 guys to play week in week out (5.0+) with a 3 way rotation, one defender to play week in week out with 2 two way rotations, or one defender to play every week with a 4 way rotation? or are you ignoring rotations all together and just going for good defenses and/or good value defenders and hoping for the best?

see i'm looking at 2 guys to play week in and week out but maybe not big hitters as they'll be below 6.0. will probably get 2 out of an arsenal def, a cheap pool def (toure) and coleman/alcaraz along with a rotating trio.

hmm that's a tough one. maybe nasty to a 4.5 and then free up .5 somewhere else?

Soldado 5 pens in La Liga last season, Negredo had 4 pens highly likely they wont be on them at their respective clubs. How does this impact their FPL potential?

Why is it highly likely Soldado won't be on pens at Spurs? I'd say it's fairly likely he will be. Not that we'll sign him.

      Or get a penalty.

I think last year was a bit of an exception as players who did well week 1 Fellaini Michu Hazard etc kept doing well for long spells and Bale after week 4 just went on and on all year, that usually doesnt happen as far as I can remember.

Which bandwagons are you refusing to jump on?

They're popular picks, they'd fit into your team without sacrifices in other areas, but you just don't want 'em.

    For me:

i'm not sure why people are so concerned with getting liverpool attacking cover, when there's 4 if not 5 teams who easily take priority. once they've got utd city arsenal chelsea and spurs cover i can't imagine anyone would have enough for a liverpool player as well. *shrug* granted, i'd probably prioritise liverpool over chelsea currently, and utd were it not for rvp.
