Our pre-season projections and Rate My Team tool are almost ready to go live in the Members Area. Over the past week we’ve seen a number of significant signings, notably at the Etihad, that have delayed our first set of numbers but, with the market seemingly settled for 24-hours, we’re now very close to going live with both, albeit with perhaps a big Gareth Bale caveat on the way.

Once again this season, the projections are based on the Rate My Team statistical model, developed by “Professor” Chris Atkinson, who some of you may have got to know via last season’s ScoutCast.

The Rate My Team model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attack and defence rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

In the next day or so we will be publishing full projections for every Premier League player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. These will include short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule over those crucial budget purchases.

In addition to the Projections, the full Rate My Team tool will also be going live shortly.

This can be used in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. It includes a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also be used to build a team from scratch, analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers.

The “Professor” and I will be creating some new movies explaining how the Projections and Rate My Team work in the next few days. Look out for them over the weekend and into next week.

A reminder that memberships for the coming season, giving you access to both the projections and Rate My Team tool, along with many other features, are available for the pre-season price of £12.50. Click here for further details, including an array of preview movies to demonstrate what’s on offer.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Liverpool fans seem to think he'll play as much as last year, but spread over the year. He was thrown in a bit last year but burnt out a bit. Plus they have better options this year so I can't see him becoming a regular starter.

Nope ... I just abhor the concept of playing a game wherein you make your own choices - then immediately abdicate that concept by asking random folk online/using someone's spreadsheet/predictive algorithms.

It's a contradiction that falsifies any pleasure in success.

I find it useful during the season if I'm 50/50 on who to bench/captain. It at least gives a statistical viewpoint which can swing the vote one way or the other in the more indecisive moments.

I didn't use it last year but I had a lot of what I thought were 50/50 decisions going horribly wrong. Perhaps there was more in it than I thought. Will definitely try it out. Wasn't a fan of the projections last year when I looked though, it was as if they weren't updated often.

It just a help tool - same as knowing how many goals negredo had last year in la liga, how many big chances cazorla generates per game, or who is the player that will benefit the most from the new bonus system (vertongen - sorry if I spoiled this for you).
Many times youngest multiple options with small margins between them, many times reality behaves differently, and many times stats are used badly by humans - you still have to make your own decisions, but it gives you valuable information to help.
If you are such a purist why do you read the forum? You might accidentally get good advice if you are not carefull.

I think part of the appeal of suarez, rather than say higuain, is that suarez would be capable of leading the line but also be able to play off giroud with cazorla out wide. Thus offering arsenal more options and greater versatility. It would also allow suarez to drive at the defence from the middle of the park while giroud makes space/runs off defenders.

Never gonna happen, why on Earth would L'Pool sell for 40 million when Champions League bring in 25 million.

As Tottenham will soon find out, it really is useless bringing in 85 million if you can only spend it on one player. There team will be no where near top 4 if Bale is gone regardless of who they buy to replace him.

If Anelka does perform well enough to be played week in week out you can get a great front 7 even with RVP and Bale.

    Mignolet

    Mert/Coleman/Shaw

    Bale/Silva/HBA/Mirallas

    RVP/Anelka/Carroll(or Berba)

    Subs: Marshall/Parr/Chester/Thomas

    May just go with that...

So I'm pretty sure we're all loving the Southampton defence because of Wanyama but what about Spurs? Surely they'll now be defensive titans with a Demebele, Paulinho & a fit Sandro. Right?

I think I'll take the plunge and have him from the start. Crossing my fingers he's nailed on.

Someone posted they thought the back could be:

        Walker, Kaboul, Dawson, Vert

Unlikely since V wants to be CB but would love this to be the case.

BAE would be pushing for a spot at LB but AVB isn't really a fan I gather. Vert could very well play quite a bit at LB this season.

leaving 3mil in the bank is mental. if you're going to plan that change just spend the money elsewhere and downgrade someone else to fund it later on. will more than make up for it in points and potential price rises.

I was sceptical about Anelka too, but 2 guys on the last page made some pretty good points. He should play every week as he is their highest paid player, and he has worked with Steve Clark at Chelsea so I would expect he knows how to get the best out of him. West Brom also play relatively attacking football so he should get chances. Worth it if you are trying to crowbar RVP and Bale into your team.

Id say they are not desparate enough and have enough image worries to consider without him. Most Liverpool fans I know want Suarez out, I dont get why fans from clubs in good positions would want a man like that in. He is more of a type of player for Real, Bayern, PSG who want to win with any cost or Arsenal who just need a striker in a market running out of good ones.

    Quick RMDefence. Any thoughts appreciated!

    Coleman, Toure, Kaboul, Shaw, Ramage

Good rotation pattern between the 5. Hoping Kaboul makes CB his own and that Wanyama + Paulinho really boost the defences for their respected teams. Obviously a bit of a selection headache so not sure if I should downgrade one of the £5m players.

    Suggestions please?

A selection headache is sometimes good early on, especially if one of Toure or Kaboul doesn't end up being nailed on. At least you'd have a decent player coming off the bench.

Never thought of it that way. That point actually puts me at ease with the money I've invested in defence (considering I have a Kaca/Tonev rotation in mid). Also with those defenders if they did all end up being nailed on I think some weeks I may be willing to throw the dice and play a 4-3-3.

        Something like:

        Coleman, Toure, Kaboul, Shaw

        Bale, Walcott, Snoddy

        RVP, Negredo, Bent

        Cheers Ryan.

Looks good, I think the risk/reward of going with those 5 defenders could have a lot of upside if it turns out they are nailed on. Then the risk is minimal because of the selection headache. Its a reasonable strategy and one which I might employ as well.

I've gone from a defence of Turner/Yanga-Mbiwa/Collins/Clyne/Chester to this and I do feel this could be worth the extra £1.5m investment considering the former had pretty awful rotation too.

Just realised that the good rotation means nothing if one of these fall out of favour though, hopefully at worst it'll be Kaboul so I can make a straight swap to Dawson.

Overall I think this team is solid enough to carry me the first 10 GW which is good.

Coleman and Shaw are pretty certain starters (though not guaranteed). Toure will have to contend with Agger and Skrtel. Kaboul also a risk with Dawson and Vertong. better placed (plus, he's massively injury prone).

Think most people feel Toure has pushed Skrtel out the picture although another CB may be signed and knock him off too. Kaboul also seems to be ahead of Dawson according to general consensus when fit, the injury issues don't worry me as I'd count it "unlucky" if it happens and just use a transfer.

Toure worries me the most tbh, cheers for your input!

Does anyone else have a problem answering RMTs. I usually would try to help with my 5 cents, but currently my conclusion always is:
Wait until it is closer to the start of the season, than you will probably want to change out 50% of your team at least as they wont start or there will be better alternatives.
