Our pre-season projections and Rate My Team tool are almost ready to go live in the Members Area. Over the past week we’ve seen a number of significant signings, notably at the Etihad, that have delayed our first set of numbers but, with the market seemingly settled for 24-hours, we’re now very close to going live with both, albeit with perhaps a big Gareth Bale caveat on the way.

Once again this season, the projections are based on the Rate My Team statistical model, developed by “Professor” Chris Atkinson, who some of you may have got to know via last season’s ScoutCast.

The Rate My Team model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attack and defence rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

In the next day or so we will be publishing full projections for every Premier League player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. These will include short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule over those crucial budget purchases.

In addition to the Projections, the full Rate My Team tool will also be going live shortly.

This can be used in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. It includes a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also be used to build a team from scratch, analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers.

The “Professor” and I will be creating some new movies explaining how the Projections and Rate My Team work in the next few days. Look out for them over the weekend and into next week.

A reminder that memberships for the coming season, giving you access to both the projections and Rate My Team tool, along with many other features, are available for the pre-season price of £12.50. Click here for further details, including an array of preview movies to demonstrate what’s on offer.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Coutinho or Walcott and why?

I feel like Arsenal are so inconsistent, so I'm iffy on Walcott but I do want him for the match against Spurs. Coutinho has the moves like Jagger so I'm leaning towards him.

Since when is FPL about getting the better player in real life?

Michu is hardly what you would call an outstanding footballer, yet he was a great pick last year.

              So is that a no?

My point was that anyone who watched any of Liverpool's games in 2013 would have seen what a talent Coutinho is. He is far superior to Walcott and i reckon he will outscore him in FPL points this season too

Who is a better footballer, Arteta or Michu?

Who will score more points, Arteta or Michu?

We are comparing Coutinho and Walcott. Players that play (relatively) in the same kind of position on the pitch and who are the same kind of price.

Why are you comparing Arteta (a holding centre midfielder who is £7m) with Michu (an attacking midfielder who spent the vast majority of last season up front and who is £9m)?

Where is the logic there exactly?

Buy Walcott, take advantage of his first 3 fixtures with a plan on a swapping over to Coutinho after their GW3 match w/ UTD.

Gives you some time to suss out how Coutinho's going.

Walcott because half season syndrome benefits loads of January buys. So Coutinho still not fully proven. Walcott is pretty proven now.

Walcott's stats say it all... look how prolific he was when he was fit and starting. more proven than coutinho after just half a season. They will be close in their fantasy output but there is probably less of a risk with wally.

Definitely less of a risk i agree but i think Coutinho has the potential to vastly exceed Walcott. Like i said above he is a much better footballer than Theo and the speed at which he settled into the Prem was a great sign for the future imo

Itself no big deal, but see bottom post.
Evs' pre-season RMT. Funny thing is he is talking up Darren Bents potential for the season. 😀

Just goes to show. We can all be convinced of a player and get it way off the mark, but also shows getting some wrong also happens to the very best players too.

I think a benteke downgrade would solve a lot.
Better to have a lesser 1 forward and actually have a defence. Imagine you had no defenders on. 🙂

If Countinho was 8m or 8.5 even, he'd be in everyone's team, I think we're not gibing him credit cuz of his price. But we're banking on Mirallas who is under a new Manager and is essentially playing just as high up the pitch as Coutinho.

I believe he's fairly priced tbh, he is a big hitter, ended last season amazingly and is doing well in preseason, he's probably tryna make the Brazilian national team who knows

Gerrard, Sturridge, Coutinho -- arguments can be made for any of them, but w the second tier of forwards being so much stronger than the mids, I'd rather spend my money on Gerrard or Coutinho than Sturridge.

Mirallas will score goals though and arguably more assists as Kone's a better target for them. Couinho won't score many goals and without Suarez's quality to get on his clever passes his assists will diminish. The great thing about Suarez compared to Sturridge is he fancies it against any team, almost never lets the head drop even if he's misssed 8 shots in a row he'll tell himself he'll score with number 9 and often does.

4.5m mid such as Lucas, or Parker if out on loan. Maybe even 5m, but essentially bench warmer.

Even at 7m, there aren't great pickings with certainty of starts. Give me one that you have in mind?

I agree on mids and posted likewise above when talking about Coutinho, but Peanut, AJ, Sess...potential abounds at 7.0 that makes it more appealing than GJ and a Swan both at 6.0.

142 FPL points in a 'poor' season. Now look at any of your mids < 8m. What score are you expecting from them.

Yes, the idea is to transfer in the mid in form, but there's always another transfer that needs making. Factor in points hits and the case for a pricier defender becomes stronger.

One tactic is to have 4 or 5 mids 7m+ but I genuinely think the value of defenders this year are being overlooked.

I've seen plenty of teams rotating 4.5-6.5m mids and even having players in that price range always in their first 11.

      -Top 5 PPM in fact...

-Nailed on & plenty of CS potential.

-Underlying stats show that he was 'unlucky' last year offensively speaking.
55 Attempts on goal, 25 Attempts in the box & he only netted one goal.
To this in perspective, Ivanovic had 5 goals from 25 attempts.

Hey mate, you might have missed it but some nots for your australia trip!

Sydney- Tourist wise theres the obvious Harbour Bridge & Opera house, Manly (catch a ferrry from near the Opera house), Bondi, 3 Sisters Katoomba.

Football wise if you are in Sydney for the 11th of October you can see Syndey FC (Del Piero, Brett Emerton) vs Newcastle Jets (Heskey), pretty close to the city.

Or The Sydney Derby (Sydney Fc vs Western Sydney Wanderers) is on the 26th of October. Well worth a visit!

Adelaide- Catch the tram to Glenelg from the city, its prettty nice. The Barossa Valley (Wine and Food) is also very close to Adelaide and is pretty popular.

Not too much actually. I have mignolet and a 4.5 backup, so like that. I have turner clyne collins bale Walcott and sturrige, so like them too.I have koren too.

All I would say is change Whittaker to a 4.0 with better chance of starting. And if Anelka can ne upgraded at all by a slight downgrade elsewhere, do it. I dont rate him at all though.

From what I have heard, Anelka is nailed on, so that is why i have him as my sub.

What 4.0 defender is actually likely to start??

    @ Dunny

    Fair enough.

Compare Wally and Cazorla's record, then. And take the mins played into account..

      I assume you mean Coutinho...

Look, my original point was that my FPL decisions are not based solely on stats. In fact i NEVER use the stats in the member area or anything else in the members area for that matter besides the ticker. I WATCH football matches and having seen Coutinho settle so quickly into the Prem i expect him to go from strength to strength this year. I actually think he will be one of the stars of this season

Yes! This team will score more points than any other RMT I have seen on FFS. Someone finally shows they understand the pricing this year.

      Brilliantly put together.

One point I'd make is that you'll likely get close to Vertonghen's score with a nailed on 5.5 or 6m defender and could use those funds to bolster elsewhere.

    migs

    kosc, collins, kaboul (turner, clyne)

    hazard, walcott, nolan, bale (guly)

    ricky vw, negredo, anelka

    Thoughts anyone? Still have 2mil.
Obviously RVW and Anelka are risks.

      Probably on pens well maybe.
Nailed on. Good penalty box striker who reads game well.
      Good poacher type.

Could upgrade him to Sturridge though?
Half keen on working Mirallas into the team also.
Can't help thinking Coutinho will be BIG

Not a Giroud fan.. do you rate him?
Anelka bagged a brace on debut yesterday.. Could be a steal
Nolan is a shoe in for me every year, would only change him for Mirallas possibly

Stick to your guns then, nothing wrong with that 🙂

Had Anelka in my first team draft. Am just worried about Long's game time... maybe Clarke will rotate as he did with Lukaku?

Don't like the Nolan pick with Carroll injured, plus he's about 38 😉

Giroud *should* have a better second season....

Hi Salty, like the general look of your team(on prev page), I've been moving away from an initial uber defence as the more I look at values, the better a lot of the top defenders are looking. More thought needed me thinks.
