Our pre-season projections and Rate My Team tool are almost ready to go live in the Members Area. Over the past week we’ve seen a number of significant signings, notably at the Etihad, that have delayed our first set of numbers but, with the market seemingly settled for 24-hours, we’re now very close to going live with both, albeit with perhaps a big Gareth Bale caveat on the way.

Once again this season, the projections are based on the Rate My Team statistical model, developed by “Professor†Chris Atkinson, who some of you may have got to know via last season’s ScoutCast.

The Rate My Team model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attack and defence rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

In the next day or so we will be publishing full projections for every Premier League player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. These will include short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule over those crucial budget purchases.

In addition to the Projections, the full Rate My Team tool will also be going live shortly.

This can be used in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. It includes a players table that can filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also be used to build a team from scratch, analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains your bench and bench order and allow you to model your future transfers.

The “Professor†and I will be creating some new movies explaining how the Projections and Rate My Team work in the next few days. Look out for them over the weekend and into next week.

A reminder that memberships for the coming season, giving you access to both the projections and Rate My Team tool, along with many other features, are available for the pre-season price of £12.50. Click here for further details, including an array of preview movies to demonstrate what’s on offer.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The thing with the cheap strikers is that they all carry risk. Not only do we have to worry about their form, but the form of their team.

In both players' cases, we're not sure they're nailed-on, although it looks that way with JRod

Pellegrini was a tough tackling defender in his day and if you know anything about Argentinian/Uruguayan/Chilean defending it is known for its tough tackling uncompromising style. The only SA team that doesn't do tough tackling (borderline assault) is Brazil the rest are pretty much no holds barred stuff.

Which is why I always find it amusing that Premier League fans think that top players coming from South America won't be used to the 'physical nature' of the BPL. I'll give them that the pace is higher, but they really need to watch more Brazilian and Argentinian league play to understand how ridiculous that assumption is. As DINO said above, borderline assault. It beats me why the Brazilian national team doesn't employ the 'dark arts' more.

I fully agree kalik, you see the smaller sa players like juninho know well how to look after themselves from a physical point of view. The reason they struggle to adapt is more to do with the pace of the game as you alude to and also the culture change (including moving away from their family and friends and getting used to living and playing in a different time zone) imo.

                  Ps lescott starts today 😉

If / when Bale moves to Real Madrid, owners will be scrambling to look for alternatives with 12m burning a hole in their pocket. This will allow significant upgrades at other positions. Potentially lost in the excitement, however, will be the opportunity created at Spurs. In its wisdom, FPL Towers have significantly under-priced the lesser players at Spurs who may now come to the fore. Notable examples are:

    MIDs
    Dempsey 7.5m
    Lennon 7.5m
    Sigurdsson 7m
    Holtby 6.5m
    Dembele 5.5m

    FWDs
    Defoe 8.5m
    Adebayor 8m

not to mention Soldado (if acquired) and Chadli who have yet to be priced.

It seems likely there will be terrific value among this group. My money's on Dempsey to have a great season if Bale moves on.

    What do you think?

In a fantasy sense if the move goes through the whole season will be a RVP bore fest imo ðŸ™

Every team will have to have rvp as he will then be the only one capable of bringing consistent captaincy points. At the moment at least we have three main differing strategies a) RVP and BALE, b) RVP no bale and c) Bale no RVP. Template teams will be so consistent if Bale leaves it will be like second half of the season before we even start.

Interesting how public both arseneal's attempt at signing Suarez and united's attempt at signing fabregas.
Both have been turn down and both have had owner/mangers insist the player isn't going anywhere.
However with the fabregas deal it's oh united wouldn't bid if they're wasn't any indication of player/club intresr. While with Suarez the line read's "trying to appease the fan's, wenger is smoking crack".

Personally I feel if arsenal have put 42 million forward compared to unite 30 for fabregas they are 1 closer to the players actual valuation and 2 arsenal are a more attractive proposition at this moment in time to Liverpool, would I say that's the case for united and Barcelona? No.

All this to say, people are scarred of Suarez coming to arsenal, and that includes arsenal fans.

Only 1 team can win the CL each season, so getting knocked out isn't exactly the end of the world. He may not win anything at Arsenal but he is much less likely to win anything at Liverpool. I guess one thing he has learn't is how to carry a team and play with lesser players. Was probably a culture shock having come from Ajax 😉

That sounds like a waste of 2 FTs to me. I'd get Silva or Mirallas right away, then use the FTs elsewhere. Something always comes up after GW1, no matter how much time you spend setting up your initial team.

    What do you think?

    Mannone/ Davis

    Ivanovic/ Shaw/ Turner (Nor)/ Parr/ Chester

    Bale/ Silva/ Hazard/ Snodgrass/ Koren

    Aguero/ Sturridge/ Anelka

Defenders rotate well together and decent money for attack. Plan to sub Ivanovic out for a cheapie and upgrade Aguero to RVP for week 3.

Your keepers are very risky not confirmed who the Sun number 1 will be could quite easily be Westwood and Davis won't play. Worst case scenario is you will have no keeper and have to waste an early transfer to bring one in

Not sold on Sturridge's fitness (as mentioned further down). Ivanovic isn't a guaranteed starter, way too much money to spend. I'd go Vert or Baines if you want a premium defender, but not sure it's worth the dosh. Downgrade Iva and go for Mignolet, IMO combined with Boruc.

Dunno if this has been posted already, but for those interested Sturridge didn't travel to Asia for the tour but started light training like a week ago back in UK. I think it'll be tight for him to make the first GW, and even if he does he could be fairly rusty, depending on whether he makes a couple of pre-season appearances later on.

Depends how Aspas plays, if he plays himself into the team he could be good value. Hard to predict how their lineup will look when (if) Suarez returns after the first 6.

That's the problem. If we sign Aspas, we know his place is always at risk.

Sturridge offered some security, but not he might not be fit, he is also a risk

You can't simply cover a team's attacking potential by picking one of their attacking players.

Hazard looks the best bet for Chelsea as Lampard might not play advanced and we don't know if he's nailed-on.

If Chelsea have a DGW, I would say:

      1 Hazard
      2 Walcott
      3 Silva
      4 Lampard

      No DGW, I would say

      1 Walcott
      2 Silva
      3 Hazard
      4 Lampard

Silva- covers man city well as guaranteed starter
Hazard- Mourinho likes his counterattacking and Hazard could be absolutely key
Walcott- could be very good but probably wont benefit from the new bps
Lampard- could be missing a lot of games, when does start a goal machine

I think you need a stronger mid imo. theres great value out there.

I see you're gone for a strong back-line and front-line with a weak midfield. Care to share your thoughts behind this?

That was a loaded question. It is at least what I consider to be a weak midfield. That should read: "with a lot less investment in midfield"

I just chose the best attacking mids I could find with the $ I had left after going for the fwd & the 3 main defenders. Would love to throw in bale (for now), but i think this is better balanced.

          I disagree.

I think the money is better invested in premium midfielders as opposed to premium defenders, especially with the defensive options avaibable at 4.5m.

Also, the consensus is that Azpi isn't nailed on

It is not about a balanced team its about finding a team which scores he most points. Fwds and mids in general score more points so downgrade your defence get some decent mids in and play 3-4-3

Its ok but your midfeild looks weak, plus you might regret benching Coleman every week

you should only aim to start 3 defenders max IMO

I think if you're going to have RVP then I think you have to compromise and lose some value from your defence.

How i see it is that the other mids i would like to have is bale or silva. I'd have to make a big downgrade to atleast 2 other positions to get them. It didnt seem worth it considering most of my mids play in the hole and can deliver.

Still recommend steering clear of Chelsea with those opening fixtures. Azp isn't guaranteed gametime either. I reckon he'll be #1 right back, but it's far from guaranteed.

Let's try a RMT! I guess this is my second proper draft this season, still RVP-less. No Chelsea due to terrible fixtures. Playing 3-5-2 trying to find some value in mid-priced midfielders, and assuming Rooney leaves. Not sold on Sturridge's fitness at the moment so picked Aspas.

    Mig Boruc
    Coleman Collins Parr Clyne MTurner
    Bale Walcott Kagawa Mirallas Nolan
    Aguero Aspas Gayle

I'm unsure about Kagawa, but if I want Aguero I need to find someone 8.0 or lower (or I gotta downgrade Aspas and upgrade Kags to Silva, which would mean I'd have to double on City).

    Mignolet Davis/Given
    Baker Yanga-Mbiwa Clyne Mertescaker Collins
Koren Snodgrass Ben Arfa Hazard Bale
    RVP Giroud Moore

Players Im thinking about are JRod/Berbatov instead of Giroud Moore
And Walcott somewhere in there... thoughts?
