Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value†to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hey guys, what do you think about this team for GW1? (It is the best I can come up with assuming Bale leaves)

    Mignolet (Given)

    Collins--IVANOVIC--Shaw (M.Turner, Parr)

    Walcott--Snodgrass--Mirallas--HAZARD (Thomas)

    Rvp--BENTEKE--Rodriguez

Acccording to the RMT feature there is virtually no difference in points from

    Mingolet and a 4m keeper
    or
    Boruc and Marshall

Both combos expected to achieve approximatly the same score. , Boruc and Marshall .5 cheaper and an injury wont have the same impact. So if RMT is correct taking the risk on Mingolets fitness offers no reward.

Mingolet and Boruc expected to gain around 11-12 points over the season than playing Boruc and Marshall. However is losing 1m for the entire season worth twelver points?????

The way the scoring is set up levels the playing field for keepers of weaker teams in a way that it doesn't for defenders. They get save points and more opportunities to save penalties.

I personally dont get this Mignolet love as well, If I would get someone that expensive id invest an extra 0.5 for De Gea. And there is also Toure for a bit cheaper. Problem with the rotation though is that you play the wrong keeper.

Furthermore , i would like to point out that if you go for the cheaper keepers you can spend that money buying a Liverpool defender which gives a bigger upgrade in points earned than spending the extra on mingolet
There is about a difference of over 20 points per season per million spent on defenders

But keep in mind that 0.5 still makes a huge difference when margins are so tight and teams are so finely tuned. Because of the that difference a case can be made that Mignolet is a stronger pick when all factors are considered. But the Toure option is tempting to avoid the rotation issue and take advantage of Liverpool's (potentially) strong defense.

The big problem that I see is that Mignolet will now get few save points.

Also, with the DGW, and offloading Chelski players, I want my goalies settled.

Rate the Chelsea defenders to have for DGW on a scale of 1 to hazard. My rating:

Cahill - least assured of starts
Azpi - international duty casts a shadow
terry - only 6.0, mouriniu loves him, but age and rotation might kick in
Ivanovich - likely to only play rb so less assured starts from last year - however explosive on the day
Cole - no alternatives at his position - most nailed on
Luiz - Jose loves him, going forward, might play oop and shares free kicks. Thou, slightly less assured starts than cole.

I think they have a good relationship, but not sure that will affect his gametime positively or not. That said, just go for Cole. If you really want a defender I'm guessing you see big CS potential.

really close between Enrique and Zaba.

        i'm wavering between Enrique/Toure or Zaba/Nastasic for my 11.5.

If Nastasic is out, it'll be the latter, but if he's fit, I think Enrique might offer slightly more attacking upside than Zaba, plus slightly less rotation risk.

Azpi and Jones are MUCH further down my watchlist, fyi.

The different formations are slightly misleading because as far as colemans concerned he plays in all of them and still gets fwd in a flat back 4. Obviously 3-4-3 makes him even more of a prospect. We will know more after the next friendly against juventus on Wednesday. This game will show us what Martinez will go with I think.

Looking for a rotating midfielder to play with Wanyama (who I'm convinced is going to be great value). one criterion is good rotation with SOU. best 5.0 or less from the below (or someone else i've not considered):

      1. Campana
      2. Dorrans
      3. Johnson (NOR)
      4. Thomas (CRY)
      5. Morrison (WHU...my current choice but being told by a Hammer that he won't play unless there are injuries)
      5. Noble
      6. Marveaux

I realize going up to 5.5 really increases my options, but my budget calls for a 5.0 or less rotating partner with Wanyama.

      Many thanks!

Why do you want two 5m mids rotating? You can rather have a bench fodder for 4.5m and get Jarvis for 5.5m who has shown some form in the recent matches and has decent fixtures to start with.

He's got a big team this season and 4 games in 2 weeks, you honestly can't see Iva/Azp getting one each, Lukaku/Torres getting one start each and any changes at all in the midfield?

I don't see why. Azp is a better right-back, he has some notion of technique, crossing and passing and got a good engine on him. I absolutely love Iva, but he is more of a center-back playing right-back, just forces his way forward.

Hazard will start. As to Lukaku it's mostly guesswork, but I think he will be #1 striker this season if we don't buy anyone. He'll start the first one, sub vs Villa, start vs United.

Chelsea vs Villa is on Wednesday and United vs Chelsea on Monday.

I think this rotation thing is overhyped. It's the start of the season and players don't need so much of rest to cope with 3 matches in 8 days.

There definitely will be some rotation but not wholesale changes imo.

i'm almost certain he will be. whether he can maintain his fitness for long periods is another thing but i'll be starting with him and it's tempting me not to go with the standout keeper in Mignolet.

          Yaya, fernandinho in the middle
Silva, Navas, Aguero, Jovetic up front. With Negredo rotating in for some teams with more size.

Hazard in the hole. Mourinho has stated that Mata will be used wide right as he is the only left footed player.

Oscar will be in Switzerland to play a friendly for Brazil on the 14th.So he may well not get immediate starts.

yup, Mata-Oscar-Hazard will still be 1st choice next season, only difference is Oscar in the hole, Mata on the right and Hazard on the left.
Mata infact looks the most certain to start maximum games over the season with the lack of left footed wingers.

I will keep eye open for it.

What's this league about? Next season...? 2014/15?

Since I have 4 x top 10k finishes I should have a vote for a "wild card entry"...

                I vote for you.

                😉

Jafalad also has more then 3 I think, although his gw history might not reflect that. I seem to recall some issues with a registration...

His link is still last seasons, so it's buggered. I seem to recall he had a 7k-9k finish last season and the somewhere in there is a top 1k as well. I'm sure it's been 3 top 10k's the last 3 years.

                    TM might know.
