With Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruled out of tomorrow’s home match with Sunderland and Cesc Fabregas looking very unlikely to be risked, Arsene Wenger’s side will be deprived of much of the attacking vigour that has propelled them to just four points of the league summit with a game in hand.

In recent weeks the Gunners have relied heavily on the tenacious trio: with Van Persie’s 10 goals in his last seven Premier League fixtures and Theo Walcott’s 5 assists and 2 goals in his last six games. The loss of Cesc Fabregas in midfield meanwhile, was there for all to see in the Carling Cup defeat to Birmingham; the Gunners lacked a leader on that Wembley pitch.

Three points this weekend are a top priority but Wenger will be keeping a firm eye on the Champions League match with Barcelona next Tuesday. While Van Persie and Walcott are out of the picture, any hopes that Fabregas have of making the Nou Camp clash will surely rely on being rested. In their absence, Samir Nasri will resultantly shoulder the attacking burden for the Gunners’ imminent set of fixtures (SUN, wba, BLA, blp, LIV & tot, bol) and, barring a tricky double on Gameweek 33, the run looks relatively straightforward.

Prior to a hamstring injury that saw him miss much of February, Nasri was in outstanding form, particularly before the turn of the year. The midfielder has returned 108 FPL points this season, including 9 goals and 16 bonus points. His dazzling displays have left question marks over his Arsenal future, with teams such as Barcelona allegedly sniffing around.

Intriguingly, the three games in which Nasri has notched up his best Fantasy Premier League returns this season (West Brom (H) 12 FPL points, Man City (A) 14 FPL points, Fulham (H) 15 FPL points) have come when he has been the prominent force in Arsenal’s attack. Across these three fixtures Van Persie has managed just 28 minutes, Fabregas 84 and Walcott 26. In the trio’s probable absence at Sunderland, the stage is all set for Nasri to once again deliver a big performance and hefty Fantasy return.

Given his added attacking responsibilities, Nasri is also likely to take over some set piece duties. Expect him to fight it out with Arshavin and co for penalties and direct free-kicks, enhancing his potential further.

Another factor worth considering is the Frenchman’s drop in FPL ownership. Although hardly a “differential”, with 12.6% of Fantasy Managers holding Nasri in their teams, the player has been transferred out by hundreds of thousands throughout February. His price has, in turn, dropped slightly from a peak of 8.5 to 8.2.

paddy sayspaddy says

Nasri to score a brace vs Sunderland 13/2

Nasri to score directly from a free-kick vs Sunderland 8/1

Nasri to get booked vs Sunderland 9/2

Afternoon all, a quick call for comments on the below team. All help, criticisms and general warbling much appreciated:

    Foster
    Coleman Johnson Kolorov
    Arteta Nani Young Nasri
    Drogba(c) Zigic Tevez

    Bench: Berg, Kelly, Barton, Huth

PS - realise Drogba is a high-risk, just think he has been nicely rested recently and should get to start after looking sharp and causing oproblems when he came on Vs united. He could eat-up a Adamless Blackpool.

Torres' goalscoring record away from Anfield isn't great.

In fact, come to think of it, might put some money on his first goal being away to Liverpool next season.

Young has scored in his last 5 games against Bolton. Barton I'm undecided whether I'm actually going to play him, Huth or Walker. Strangely enough I'm actually tempted to bench Rooney, don't think he'll do anything. In a way I would prefer to have Saha this week but Zigic just makes life easier after this week, will be so much easier to get Chelsea players in.

I'd play Rooney if I had him, he tends to go on goalscoring runs and droughts, and he's on a run now. Tempted to back him to score anytime, but haven't checked the odds yet.

I think mine definitely is, but i'm getting to the point where i don't really care. My rank is good but i doubt i'll win this thing, but i'm so far ahead in my mini leagues i can afford a few bad choices.

Won't be too gutted if it goes tits up but i'll be loving it if it comes off - so i'm going for it.

Half the fun in this game for me is backing the players you like, and want to do well. While i'm aware this strategy has its shortcomings its worked out pretty well for me so far this season...

I have 4 GGW players so sod it, I think I'm going for it too.

Don't really fancy any of the DGWers, so Bendtner is a good shout. But Sunderland are pretty tight at the back, and they may well park the bus.

Cheers man! I've been lucky a couple of times, and I appreciate your help!
Smalling was just a short-term transfer, but luckily for me Vidic got a red!
I'm thinking Watson out, Bentley in at the moment, but I will consider what you have said. You see; I'm planning Carrol inn next week, so Zigic/Saha would be really short-term, while Bentley is a play I can keep all season...

No talk of Wilshere as budget arsenal cover?
4.9 and bonus in his last two games. Has started the last ten league games and looked on it in the league cup final. I might be getting on board.

    Team for this week

    Foster (bego)
    Djourou Huth Coleman (rafael, kelly)
    Nani Malouda Young VDV* (Barton)
    Tevez RVP* (Odem)

Considering VDV > Wilshere + RVP > Rooney for 4 point hit.
Leaves 2.7 in the bank for Odem > Carrol + Barton > Adam next week.

Team is in somewhat of a mess so not fancying taking hits on short term DGW players. Wilshere a big mistake?

Definately not! He has showed that he is a regular even when Wenger has a fully fit squad! Go for it! Only reason I don't is because I don't like to have to midfielders from the same team, and I've got Fabregas...

Anyone thinking of bringing in Torres for this week, surely must get a goal against Blackpool...well due a goal...plus after that a Home game against MCY then a good run of fixtures and a DGW in Wk33 ?

    g'day gents,
looking for opinions on mid-long term replacement for RVP. Stuck between Rooney or Torres.
Rooney- harder gw vs Liverpool, but in great form, next 5 gw's look good-ish. no rotation risk
Torres- poor form -but it's Blackpool !! (but then City), then looks really sweet for 4 weeks (dgw!!) -he's gotta start scoring sometime, doesn't he? Doesn't he.....?
low-ish rotation risk , I peg him as starting all games , but maybe getting subbed.
    So who would you rather?

I'd rather have Rooney. Torres has yet to click with the Chelsea set-up. Rooney has the added bonus of penalties, and looks in better form than Torres.

That said I agree that Torres will catch fire at some point, and has been looking sharper by the week. I think Torres will start every game and get subbed, he needs every chance to justify the £50m price-tag.

Just don't fancy many goals in that one. Think West Ham/Stoke will have plenty of goals in it, maybe a 2-2 draw. Think Villa will win but not sure about the cleanie.

This is how far it has come with Huth, I think about his goal potential more than his cleanie potential! Should get opportunities with West Ham's dodgy defence.

If Barton will defo start I'd go with him as other two playing away so chances of CS limited....although Huth attacking potential agains WH could reap rewards.....tough one but with Barton on pens I'd probably just go with him

Can't see Villa stepping up at Bolton, Sturridge will score, no pts for Walker. Barton an injury risk. Stoke should score ,but no CS, will Huth be a part of it? Huth is best of 3 poor options.

This is a really interesting one, because I have all three of these players as well! No idea what to do with them this week.

Walker is defintiely the weakest option, I think, away to Bolton who are still a good attacking side even if they've come a bit unstuck in the last couple of months.

So that leaves Barton and Huth - I think I'll go for Barton and leave Huth on the bench, probably expecting him to come on when Barton doesn't play. Close one though, and I've made errors choosing Attackers over defenders before.

        I know...

Saha will probably do alright this week but do you really want him afterwards? Same with Arteta, I know I'd want rid straight after. I've gone with Zigic cos he should do something this week and he fills the cheap striker slot perfectly until the end of the season imo, although I will probably get rid at some point.
