Grab the popcorn, it’s Saturday night at the movies. We conclude our Rate My Team preview set with an epic 14-minute, stat filled video outlining just how “Professor” Chris Atkinson’s statistical model works.

Admittedly, this is one for the hardcore number freaks but, even so, we hope this offers some insight into the workings behind the Projections and the Rate My Team tool and the effort we put in to maintain it.

If you missed parts one and two of this series, you can catch them here and here.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

lukaku has a less than 50% chance of starting both games in GW1, dzeko has a less than 50% chance of starting in GW1, and benteke has a less than 50% chance of scoring in GW1.

Its a risk. Worth taking on a dgw if you plan on getting them out quick i think personally, but you are right - still a risk. Benteke is nailed on and can score against anyone. The other two are not nailed on tho so i think they pose a bigger risk.

Here's a little thing I've done with my mate.

Guessed league positions and fa cup, league cup, champions league, and who will get furthest in champions league from england.

    1 Chelsea
    2 Man City
    3 Man United
    4 Spurs
    5 Arsenal
    6 Liverpool

    7 Everton
    8 Southampton
    9 Swansea
    10 Newcastle
    11 West Ham
    12 Fulham
    13 Villa
    14 Norwich
    15 Sunderland
    16 West Brom
    17 Cardiff
    18 Stoke
    19 Crystal Palace
    20 Hull

    FA Spurs
    LG Man U
    CL Real Madrid
    CLe Chelsea

I will probs change some stuff around but deadline is before 1st game of the season!

So hard to slot teams in!

Read that, and read it before. I feel that these things are highly biased. Alves was tripe last year. How Phillip Lahm didn't get RB I don't know. The centre backs, give me a break. I tend to agree with most of the rest but the defence is just not accurate.

it's 'cause his best qualities are things like movement, intelligent decision-making, work rate... stuff that can't easily be quantified or recognised individually, but always reaps benefits for the team as a whole.

if we're mentioning the likes of falcao, cavani and rvp, then ibra probably deserves a mention here too. and some might say lewandowski.

Diego Costa will be a Liverpool player by the end of this window. Said by a very, very reliable person.

Do you think he'd be listed as midfielder or striker? At what price?

I'd consider if he was listed as a 7-7.5m midfielder.

I feel this is not helpful in assisting a community feel on here. A post where the voting system does its job gets blocked. References to other posters is not the issue, it's the nature of those references. For example regards banned posters. All such posts are immediatly frozen now. But fun and banter amongst posters particularly those who have been on here a while should not be prevented.

Ok lads, half conceded that the Welsh Wizard is half way out the door - so tinkered around a bit without him. Thoughts?

    Mannone/Boruc
Collins - Mert - Toure (Brayford, Chester)
Hazard - Silva - Mirallas - Snotgrass (Thomas)
    RVP - Lukaku - Studge

The RVP scenario as we know is all a pain in the ass - will be a nightmare trying to squeeze him in for GW4 without using your WC. Thought may aswell get him now (even though fixtures arent too tasty) and save the headaches later.

Koscielny over Mert for goal threat. Watch Sturridge injury situation closely.
It's good, I like it. Not going for RVP myself, but for a RVP team it's top notch.

Yeh watching Studge - its either him or Benteke. Most probably the latter due to the injury/pre season. No Walcott is killing me, have to do some serious culling to fit him in

Pretty good, would look better without Sturridge and with Walcott.

Out of interest, is there anyone in this website that doesn't have Hazard (c) for GW1?

Spain play a few days before the start of the season and I think Jose said he's going to rest his spanish players for the first game.

does anyone reckon that if spurs used the bale money wisely and beefed up that thin defense and forward line with three or four less good but still good signings, they might actually end up better off than before?

No I don't. No Bale = weaker Spurs team IMO

maybe. i don't think the answer is so definitive though. let me put it in terms this site will understand:

if you and only you were given permission to drop bale from your fantasy team for, say, 20.0, and spread that wealth around, wouldn't you strongly consider it?

Yea I know what your saying but I would rather have Bale & Snodgrass (what I have now) over Theo & Silva (what i'll have if Bale goes)

I dissagree with this analogy because you'd be bringing in assets from every team in the league. If you had to swap Bale for other Spurs players your points total would be considerably less IMO. Bale scored so many match winning goals last season.

I hope not. Bale gone = small chance of LFC getting 4th, slightly increased.

i think it would be almost impossible not to be better off with *85million.

*even if the 85 is just a paper number

I think spurs defense is decent. With Kaboul back its like a new signing, he was superb for the injury GW1 last year!

Soldado is a good signing! I think they will be alot of offloading of the hundreds of mids they have on the books though!

kaboul is still getting back to full fitness, vertonghen's nursing an injury i believe, so that leaves......... michael dawson. and a couple of not really very great full backs.

soldado is their only good striker methinks...

their midfield is outstanding though, can't fault that.

He will always be a much better player than fpl value but I am assuming he will play furthest forward of Arteta and Ramsey with Wal/Caz/Gir in front but if any Arsenal fans know better and he will be holding next season then I would appreciate the knowledge.

We fantasize that he will consistently be pushed forward but I have a strong feeling that he will be kept in his pivot role with Arteta. Maybe secretly I hope that Wenger understands that Ramsey is not strong enough.
