Word on the news-wires this afternoon has thrown a curve-ball our way, West Brom have pre-emptively announced that if Manchester United and Arsenal draw in the FA Cup next weekend, then any replay of that tie will take place the following weekend, which would mean the postponement of two key Premier League fixtures.

The matches in question would be Arsenal’s trip to West Brom and Manchester United’s hosting of Bolton, leaving all four sides with a dreaded “blank” in gameweek 30.

We believe this is due to the competing clubs commitments and likely/possible/probable (delete as appropriate) progression to the next round of the Champions League leaving no gap in the schedule for them to replay at any time before the FA Cup Semi-Finals…

From this we can also glean that Manchester City could very well be in a similar situation. Given that Roberto Mancini’s men are still in the Europa League, should they progress through their upcoming two legged tie against Dynamo Kiev, then they may have to postpone an upcoming Premier League fixture on the off chance they draw at home to Reading. Either that or The FA enforce the possibility of another Monday night replay, providing a reprieve for the everyday Fantasy Manager, but no doubt irking Mancini immensely once again.

We can only hope that our assumption that this is due to European commitments. If this is not the case, then we could be seeing a whole spate of blank gameweeks as ties involving Birmingham, Bolton, Stoke and West Ham would also take a hatchet to the schedules should honours end even in their Cup ties. We’re expecting/assuming/crossing fingers any replays for theses sides would take place in the midweek of April 6.

Fantasy Managers out there buying in Arsenal or United assets; and perhaps City players too (let’s not even think about the other four aforementioned sides) should be prepared for the possibility of a blank gameweek to come were the stars to align in the worst way possible. Or, as is easier, let’s hope all the FA Cup Quarter-Finals next weekend finish with a definitive result and that the fear of possible postponements can be dismissed.

Of course, one should also be aware that further progression through the next round of the FA Cup also has it’s own intricacies with regards to the upcoming fixture list in gameweek 33…we could leave that for another day, but we really think you can cope.

  • If Arsenal beat Manchester United in the Quarter-Finals then their fixture at home to Liverpool will be postponed to a later date leaving their gameweek 33 demoted back to a single fixture and leaving Liverpool with no game.
  • If Manchester City get past Reading in the Quarter-Finals then their fixture at home to Tottenham will be postponed to a later date leaving the Citizens with a blank fixture in gameweek 33 and Spurs’ double demoted back to a single.
  • If Birmingham get the better of Bolton in the Quarter-Finals then they too will also forfeit their home tie with Sunderland for at least one gameweek leaving their double-header cut down to size and Sunderland without a game in gameweek 33.
  • Should any other Premier League team make the Semi-Finals then they will, of course, have to rescheduled their gameweek 33 fixture too for a day at Wembley. Expectation at this late stage in the season is it will take place in the midweek of the same gameweek alongside the already planned Spurs/Arsenal and Chelsea/Birmingham games, but it can’t be taken as 100% read that it will happen – but precedence seems to indicate it likely.

Lots of information to take in that could ultimately prove to be something we need never have known – sometimes ignorance is bliss in that respect.

However, we want everyone to be aware of all the possibilities before them when considering their sides. Knowledge is power… we hope. Confused? Probably. I often am and these fixture shenanigans are my bread and butter.

The FA Cup – the bane of the Fantasy Premier League manager.

Right. My decision tonight lads is....

    Lampard or Nasri.

    Lampard -

    - Lovely fixture this week
    - Chelsea coming back to form
    - Nice fixtures to come
    - Guaranteed to start and whoever is in team, returns are the same
    - On Penalties and Set pieces (Not that he'll score a free kick)
    - Not as attacking as once was in 442?
    - His OptaStats are in his favour

    Nasri -

    - Nice fixture this week
    - Arsenal not in form
    - Guaranteed to start, returns are less when RVP Fabs and Walcott are in team, which will be after the next 2 GW's max
-On penalties (for this week) and set pieces
    - Good player

Can anyone give me some more to add to Nasri's list, as you can probably tell I am leaning towards Lampard. I want both, but it means sacrificing VDV Nani or A.Young, I want all 3 of these even if VDV is out this week. I also have Barton, i can not afford both Nasri and Lampard so perhaps a combo of Arsenal and Chelsea? Any help appreciated.

Trust me mate, I've been doing this all week, just go with Nasri. Lampard won't punish you if he scores well as no-one has him.

Besides, apart from the Carling Cup loss, there's nothing to suggest Arsenal are lacking form.

+1 and Nasri has better short term fixtures, Lamps in a couple of weeks if he continues form.

A negative point for Nasri is the possibility of Arsenal not having a fixture next week....

Out of the two, Nasri is unquestionably better value for money, but Lampard could easily outscore him over the next few weeks. It just depends on how you want to spend your money.

Thanks people so far. I can also see a 1-0 Arsenal in that game, but I have got Lampard tinted goggles on. I have been terrible at 50/50 decisions all season, and this is about as 50/50 as it gets. Hmmmm. Coin toss is immenent

id still go tevez, they should put a good few on wigan, they'll be pissed off they dropped points against fulham last week. tevez could well score massive and is 99% likely to start where as drogba i suppose is 50/50 whether or not he'll start.

Now I can afford Lampard who seems likely to go goal crazy against Blackpool by selling RVP, so do RVP > Zigic and Meireles > Lampard sound ok?

Ok guys need some advice on 2 things.
1st up who should I go with in goals I have Hart and Szczesny???

my team looks like this at the moment

Hart/Szczesny (not sure) Hart at moment
    Luiz, Baines, Coleman, Jiranek
    Nani, Dempsey, Nasri
    Zigic, Rooney, Tevez

    Meireles, Adam, Bardsley

I've taken a 4pt hit this week so far. The 2nd question is... Do I take another hit and get Arteta in for Meireles and drop Luiz to the bench???

    Any help appreciated...

Team has been dessimated by injury. Already taken 4 point hit
Still only Ten playing at best (if berbs plays)

I took Berbs out this week but now regretting it. I think he will play as Hernandez been given a chance last couple of weeks and Berb has previous against Pool. Is Djourou worth a 4pt hit? Will he score 4pts more than Berb who you would drop to bench.
I would stick with the team you have m8.

    Rooooooooaaaaaaarrrrrrr........

I have the best antitode for this GW 30 fear... Load up on Man U and Arsenal and then bet on the draw. I'm going to shove in Nasri and Bendtner this week and then hope for the goals...

This week is the hardest ever to pick players to come in, dont fancy bringing in ant Brum or Everton on what I already have (Foster and Coleman) cant see any of them doing overly well.

Bendtner did me the business this time last year and he's coming into form.

Nasri has been magical this season.

Worse case (realistically), Foster gets you 4 points. Best case is 12 + save points. It's not a ridiculous option.

If you don't want to bring in Tevez or Lampard, or captain a DGW player then I'd captain Drogba or Young. Probably Young.

OK. Just done KELLY -> CARR and CAHILL -> NASRI for a 4pt hit, leaving me with:

    Foster
    R.Johnson Carr Shawcross Coleman Kolarov
    Nasri A.Young VDV Nani
    Tevez (c)

    Subs: (Odem, Barton, RVP)

    PLEASE - should i do Barton -> Arteta and RVP -> Best/Dembele?

We did the same transfers 🙂

Two clean sheets = 24 points = yummy.
        OR
        0. 🙁

I'm just gonna leave it as it is methinks, bring in rooney and walker for rvp and kolarov next week, and tevez to someone cheap to bring in lampard after that 🙂

I'm convinced Odemwingie is gonna score this week coz I think WBA are gonna win plus I've just seen him on the Premier League Preview show and it always seems when ever I see someone on their or Football Focus they do something in the weekends game....

....still gonna bench him tho as I can justify dropping anyone else.

You think they will start with Vela and Odemwingie up front? Seems very lightweight to me. You may well be right though, i was just assuming he'd continue to come off the bench.

Good point, maybe Vela will be benched. Just seemed he was quite sparky when he came on and think Woy might chuck him in from the start, we will see.

Not at all. Fulham should win but I wouldn't be surprised with a low score.

Foster or Howard should make the 4 point hit negligible if you do take another hit, though.

    Chesney/Begovic
    Coleman/Carr/Kolarov/Bardsley/Kelly
    Cahill/VDV/Fabs/Nani/Barton
    RVP/Tevez/Odem

so many players to get rid of, but sticking with a 4 point hit

    cahill to nasri
    rvp to rooney

sound good for 4 point hit? dont fancy any of the dbgw strikers

Evra is an injury doubt? 😕

Don't know whether Carroll is playing or not, but he gave Vidic a hard time at OT, now he's up against Smalling and Brown at Anfield. Even if he isn't playing, Suarez is a handful. I think 1-1, which may not be enough.

In one of the scout tweets, Mancini has said that he can't yet get Tevez, Dzeko and Balotelli to work well together without detriment to side's work ethic (in a roundabout way).

Fabs, Adam, Ferguson,Vidic, Kelly out, possibly Barton too.

More and more convinced Chelsea are coming into form, have good fixtures, and Blackpool next. Thus Lamps....but also feel need some Arsenal coverage, so-

Vidic out - Carr in ( DGW )
    Fabs out - Lamps in.
    Ferguson out - Nasri in.

8 point hit, same as last week. Thinking with DGW Carr should make the hits back.Any objections, comments lads?
