Two intriguing fixtures in the Premier League today, effecting both ends of the table. League leaders Manchester United reignite their great rivalry against a Liverpool side desperate to get into Europe, whilst Tottenham’s European ambitions stretch as high as the Champions League spots. They visit a Wolves side well capable of beating the top teams, but find themselves struggling in a relegation battle.

As always, the Dugout Discussion chatroom is open, and the first thing to digest is the team news from Anfield…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio, Gerrard, Lucas, Kuyt, Meireles, Maxi, Suarez.

Man United XI: Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Smalling, Brown, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney.

The headline team news for the hosts is that £35 million January signing, Andy Carroll, makes the substitutes bench for the first time in a Liverpool shirt. Kenny Dalglish opts for four defenders at the back, with Luis Suarez leading the line up front.

The visitors reinstate the Premier League’s top scorer to their starting eleven, with Javier Hernandez replacing the Bulgarian on the pine. Another once regular starter is back in the team after a couple of games on the touchline, as Rafael da Silva gets the nod ahead of John O’Shea.

The Dugout Discussion will stay open right up until the hotly anticipated bonus points are distributed.

Sky commentators perpetuating this 'last man = sending off' rubbish. How long do we have to put up with commentators who don't know the roles?

There's nothing in the rules about being the 'last man'. The red card offence is 'denying a clear goalscoring opportunity'. It's just that most last man fouls do deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.

player in foreground is united player (white top and shorts today). pic is of outside of nani's leg (tape on inside). the only other bit of evidence is the skin tone of the leg injured, which is dead on. i'd say the first pic doesn't look as bad because gravity is keeping the skin on the leg.

Not 2 footed, but Ray Wilkins described it as the worst 1 footed challenge he'd seen all season. Even Souness said it should have been a red! Nani was lucky that Carra's foot scraped down his leg, rather than hitting it square on.

        Nailed on red card.

Apologies as the context was whether Carragher 'meant' to do it.

Possibly one of the worst tackles i've seen this season, but not in the 'put Nani in hospital' category in my opinion.

Got slated suggesting Defoe earlier in the week...

Tevez -> Defoe? Fixtures look much better. Madness?

I've got VDV - if Defoe is nailed on to start with him then he could be a decent differential?

Also, frees up funds to do Arteta & Baines -> Lampard & Luiz in GW32...

i gashed my shin wide open when i crashed my mountain bike years ago... had pedals with big spikes on for grip and it went right up my leg

from how i remember that, and i was like 17 and fit as a fiddle, i think it's a good job nani doesn't have a prem game for 2 weeks
