Nikola Zigic remains an injury doubt ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Everton at Goodison but was expected to train today and undergo an assessment.

The Serbian striker sat out of Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to West Brom with a groin injury sustained in training and aggravated in the warm-up, with Alex McLeish advised not to risk his target man, despite Birmingham’s need for his sizeable influence in the defeat to their local rivals.

According to the the latest from the club, Birmingham will examine the Zigic situation again after training this afternoon. McLeish had this to say…

“We’ll have a look at Zigic this afternoon because he is on the borderline. Zigic got worse as the second half progressed (against West Brom). He says it (his groin) was nipping and aching away and the doc said it would have been a risk to put him on. He was a bit better yesterday and he is going to try and train this afternoon and he’s going to do something with the physios and we’ll see if he’s ready tomorrow.”

This will come as semi-encouraging news for the many Fantasy Managers who invested in the Serb ahead of Birmingham’s double fixtures in gameweek 29. Over 84,000 Fantasy Premier League managers brought in the striker prior to the gameweek deadline.

Elsewhere, Martin Jiranek has shaken off a thigh injury and is back in contention, while both Liam Ridgewell and Roger Johnson are expected to overcome groin and calf problems. It’s not all good news for McLeish however, with Barry Ferguson and Craig Gardner both remaining sidelined with rib and thigh injuries respectively.

The Birmingham boss would seem likely to ring the changes given the nature of the West Brom setback with Seb Larsson and Jiranek pushing for recalls – Zigic would appear to be a certain starter if he comes through his assessment.

As for Everton, they will be without skipper Phil Neville after he suffered a hamstring injury in the weekend win over Newcastle. Johnny Heitinga will be expected to come into a holding midfield role to take his place. That may well be the only change to a winning lineup, with Seamus Coleman set to be on the bench once again having been rested for the St James’ Park trip. Victor Anichebe is David Moyes’ only other injury concern – he was used from the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 win.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Moyes will also decide whether to continue with Mikel Arteta in a wide midfield role after the Spaniard impressed at the weekend.

"It was the only time he has played there this season. We have lacked a bit of creativity in the wide areas and he helped us on Saturday. But it might not be where I play him, it might be a one off, I will see. I have got other people who I can put there."

I’ve lost some respect for Jermaine after this:-

What happened to working hard in training and forcing your way into the team ?

2 goals this season and he wants to just walk into a team with VdV, Pav and Crouch or he’ll leave ? Joker.

FPL Open Update, table has updated.

709 entered so far, top seed 21st, 64th seed 1566, last automatic qualifier 55537.

    Two ways to qualify.

    1) Have a rank below 55000 at least & hope you finish in the top 448 after GW29.

    2) Get a nice green arrow this week & qualify by being one of 60+ teams to qualify due to their GW29 score. Only 1 team ranked over 1 million can qualify at best.

Only 2.5 hours to go until close of entries. Don't want to annoy you people anymore......

Laying = backing a team to lose. If they win you have to payout those odds.

Draw no bet equals a draw gets a refund.

"It amuses me reading people dissing the poll like they know it all when they can't even read the damn poll! Inspirational for LONDON twerps"

" Hell yes i voted for Leona Lewis and i am so happy Leona won most influential woman"

And heres a nice response by someone to the article.

            "
Yeah, I'm glad Leona won this too. Her contribution to soceity over the last 100 years has been immense. Apart from winning a singing competition she has also featured in the UK and US popular music charts in the last 5 years.
She has also posed for a number of photo shoots and managed to change her "look" on a number of occasions. You can't get much more influential than that.
Emily Wilding Davison (of Blackheath,London) threw herself infront of the King's horse in 1913 for the suffragette movement. She isn't featured in this poll. But then i suppose she didn't have a number 1 single (produced by a man) or a career in the music business (managed by two men).
Good luck to Leona. She has taken an opportunity and run with it. But the women who voted for her as the most influential woman in the last 100 years................. thats a real shame.
I look forward to Matt Cardle being voted as the most influential man of the last 100 years in the near future

That's the score you'd expect (I would gamble on that). However, CL games can somewhat be surprising... CBs out (with possibly RVP) will definitely boost the Gunners.

My Grandad told me that back in the early 60's, Real Madrid contrived to get themselves beat in the first leg away from home in the European Cup just so that they could pack out the Bernabeau for the return leg - which they always won in a canter.

So, this'll be history repeating itself then?

              I'll say 5 -1.
