Another strong Villa display. Another Christian Benteke goal. This time, however, Paul Lambert’s blossoming side fall short as Branislav Ivanovic is allowed to stay on the pitch to nod home Chelsea’s winner.

The Game Changer

Arguably, referee Kevin Friend was the most influential individual on show. There’s also a strong case for Christian Benteke who struck his third goal of the season and has now scored nine league goals in his last 10 outings. Branislav Ivanovic’s goal proved the difference, however, and rewarded those who invested their double Gameweek funds whilst underlining the goal threat previously on show in Saturday’s win over Hull.

Friend’s decision to brandish a yellow for Ivanovic’s lashing out on Benteke was undoubtedly the turning point. It allowed the Serbian to demonstrate his ability at set-plays as, just minutes later, he headed home Frank Lampard’s dead ball delivery.

Ivanovic was the only Chelsea defender denied Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points from the Hull victory. Despite escaping a red card and being left for dead by Gabby Agbonlahor for Villa’s goal, Ivanovic looks set to earn bonus to make him Chelsea’s top scoring double Gameweek asset.

The Underused

While Benteke will earn huge investment following another goal and effective display, those who are struggling to stretch their funds to the Belgian will be eyeing the impact of Gabby Agbonlahor. So impressive during Villa’s run at the end of last season, he has started the new campaign in stunning form and yet claims less than 2% FPL ownership.

Instrumental in the victory at the Emirates, it was his turn of pace and delivery that set up Benteke for his equaliser. Agbonlahor has scored five goals and earned four assists in his last ten league outings.

The Selection Poser

It’s hardly a poser. Jose Mourinho’s decision to start with Demba Ba and leave Romelu Lukaku shackled on the bench disappointed Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans alike. His introduction for the ineffective Ba on 65 minutes provided little consolation. Lukaku played fewer minutes than any other Chelsea striker in the double Gameweek, having looked primed to start the campaign following a convincing pre-season.

Mourinho’s reluctance to hand Lukaku a central role on the Premier League stage is a puzzle. Perhaps he will start at Old Trafford on Monday and face a defence which he terrified on the final day of last season at the Hawthorns. It’s unlikely to make a difference – Lukaku’s ownership and price look set to slide.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If he doesn't travel or don't play vs Georgian team in Europa, he will be even more nailed on as a capt. for me. Swansea clearly will play the strongest team, while Tott can rotate, they have a lot of players.

And I believe it is not easy to play at Selhurst Park as an opening game for Palace coming back to the EPL

Fair enough you'll no doubt prove me wrong. 🙂

I just feel that Soldaro's style of play requires the right kind of ball in to the box, i'm just not sure he'll get that delivery at the moment.

That's why you opt for the players on pens hey! I'll admit he didn't look sharp, but the only way is up, and if Sigurdsson had been on it he could have had an assist.

Aguero and Dzeko is risky, but could work out great over GW2/3. Aguero more nailed on for me, as Negredo similar player to Dzeko (big target man....)

Prefer Zaba to Clichy, as Lolorov could replace him. MF is nice, I have gone HBA too!!

If Bale is off today, it makes me feel a lot better about Ivan > Zab.

My original thinking was Ivan > Collins to free up funds for my midfield, but now Bale is going and I have no plans to get RVP, I guess I can splash out!

City presser today so I can pull the trigger before Zab rises tonight?

Why no plans to get RVP. GW4 not an option for you?

There's so much value elsewhere, I don't see the need for RVP at the moment. I can always WC for GW4 if something changes (an option I've always left open).

I'm probably going to do the same but also contemplating Hazard to Silva to get City attacking cover. You not tempted by that?

Yeah, I am, but I feel Ivan > Zaba will get more more points this week than Hazard > Silva and allow me one more week to assess the City attack

Guess i'm late for the party but im annoyed that Hazard has been given an assist and Dzeko hasn't. I have both of them.

Also, Lukaku 'owners' I wish injuries to your team. Dam 0.1 drop. Must have been sellin like hot cakes.

    Good morning all!

So who's the Captain on for us non-RVP owners?

    A) Soldado (SWA)
    B) Benteke (LIV)
    C) Mirallas (WBA)

The problem always lies on trying to maintain that consistency for the first ten gameweeks. For the past two seasons, I got off to a good start with 89 points and then failed to maintain that form. I think GW2 to GW7 is very important.

My team for this week after going Lukaku to Dzeko:

    Migs
    Ivan/Chester Shaw Reid
    Walcott Cout Mirallas Haz
    Benteke Soldado Dzeko

    subs: Ivan/Chester Turner Jedinak, Davis

For a -4 would you go:
    a)Haz -> Silva or
    b)Ivan -> Zabaletta
    c)other

Important question regarding my defender choice for GW2:

Not sure which of the following to play:

    A) K. Toure (AWAY vs Aston Villa)
    B) Chester (HOME vs Norwich)
    C) O'Shea (AWAY vs Southampton)

    Any input appreciated.

This may seem a touch...clasping at straws...just a tad bit odd.

But Wolfie is highly rated on Football manager for the last few years as a talent. And that games scouting system is pretty extensive, and more often then not...gets it right. Although, saying that, they also seem to think Giroud is a goal machine, so i'd take it with a pinch of salt! 😛

RVW? I think he looked an amazing talent a few years back. Seen him destroy Celtic playing for Utrecht. Admittedly he was up against Jos Hoovield and Dan Majstorovic but still. Looked very lively against Liverpool in the same year, Europa League if I remember right.

Never seen much of him but did see him on the score sheet for Sporting regularly enough. I had him to start, changed to Hooper when he signed until his injury. And ended up with Chamackh! So ignore my judgement!

Suggestion for the site. Is it possible to make the right side stuff (i.e.: Six week ticker and Latest Replies) follow the screen when I scroll downwards?

A little annoying to have scroll up to see the ticker, then scroll back down to see the latest comments to which I'm replying.

    Thanks!
