Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at City’s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on City’s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling – almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoon’s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitors’ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegrini’s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreas’ Cornelius’ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although he’ll be pushing for a start, it’s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackay’s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirds’ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnian’s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzeko’s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredo’s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from today’s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boas’ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swansea’s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrup’s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind – the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

Chris White - between Chester & Ward, I'd go for Chester. Hull seem to be a lot tighter than Crystal Palace. I can't see Palace keeping many clean sheets this season.

It's such a crock of shit, when you consider the prize money on offer and the fact that they've basically dedicated a prime time tv slot to the thing and the games still basically unplayable.

So glad I didnt pick serious teams for it so now I can just ditch the game completely.

It's not Sky, they use a company to run the game who aren't doing a particularly good job. Same people run the Sun game which has interface issues.

Ok, fair enough, but there have been problems for years with the Sky games, you would have thought they could have found someone to create a passable interface for a company that probably wants to compete with FPL as the market leader.

Guess this is why the FPL has stayed top of the pile for both the hardcore and the casual fans, despite some of the issues we have with it, its just a far smoother and more enjoyable experience.

I wild carded and figured that had I kept my team the same I'd have ended up on almost exactly the same amount of points in gw2 so far, except...i have rvp still to play compared with a Hazard, Ivanovic, Lukaku...

Not sure what my point is. That it's not about points but decreasing the agony of uncertainty?

Silva or Walcott. I'm uncertain between Aguero (don't have Silva) and Walcott. Walcott always scores against Spurs, Arsenal home games seem to always have lots of goals in them.

But Tottenham are hard to break down at the moment, seem to be involved in dire games. For Aguero Hull could just do a Cardiff, maybe it'll be Dzeko and Negredo up front.

Coutinho will come good but no one knows when...he needs to be in the middle, he'll get bullied by Jones if he plays right back.

Hey, yep that's the major issue with having Dzeko - he doesn't really give you any sense of security. As you've pointed out far too knee jerkish - back to the drawing board I guess. The original plan was to bring in Zab & Silva for the two Chelski lads (the flip side of today is that every man and his dog won't be rushing them both in)

Arsenal home games vs Spurs has a history of 5-2 thrillers and Walcott scoring or assisting in a lot of the recent ones.

Did Oscar to Whitty this week after seeing his corners and supposedly on pens and free kicks also. Previous form from Championship could mean he is set to score 100+ points this season.

Anyone else think if Chelsea do not sign a new striker that sooner or Later Lukaku will be 1st choice...I'm glad he is dropping right now cos I think he still will be one of the top 3 bargains come the end of the season...he just needs a start - and he will start v Man U.

Mourinho likes 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with a big striker up front. Lukaku fits the bill more than Ba or Torres (who will be used more in Europe and cup games I feel)

Why not start him against Hull at home? Was the easiest and best game to take a chance on a hungry player, a team Chelsea have no recent history with, no stats that say Torres typically scores against them or anything. A fresh start for the team, a booster for Lukaku, 'you're my first choice, now prove it'. Mourinho has messed it up for himself, Lukaku is the only striker they have who is going to improve with age, no idea why Mourinho bottled it. An away game against Man United seems too big. Last game of the season off the bench hat trick means little, it was just a crazy game.

I need help with my team. Anyone?

    Hart-Boruc
    Baines-Coleman-Shaw-Ivanovic-Mertesacker
    Walcott-Wanyama-Coutinho-Chadli-Morrison(WHU)
    Bony-Sturridge-v.Wolfsvinkel

I want to get rid off Hart, Baines, Ivanovic, Wanyama, Chadli, Morrison, Bony and v. Wolfsvinkel. Would it be wise to play the wildcard and possibly bring in RVP, Soldado, Barkley, Brady and some others.

Oh, I didn't know about this site before just a couple of days ago, hence the shitty team.

    Cheers
