With the injuries to key Premier League midfielders throughout the top-flight continuing to rack up by the week right now, Aston Villa’s run of upcoming fixtures (WOL, eve, NEW, whm, STK, wba, WIG) looks likely to offer further chances for the in-form and injury-free pair of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing to terrorise opposition defences.

Gerard Houllier’s side sit just two points above the drop zone and, with the likes of fellow strugglers Wolves and West Ham coming into form at this critical stage of the season, desperately need to start producing the goods if they are to guarantee survival. With just one clean sheet since gameweek 11, there‘s clearly little security at the back, a point Houllier has been critical of lately. Certainly, recent off-field events have indicated that all is not well amongst the club’s defenders, a fact Houllier must rectify as his side prepare for a crucial run-in.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      yeah definitely, while there are so many injury doubts everyone seems to be taking hits this GW to make the teams stronger for coming weeks.

      I'm thinking of going..

      Tevez > Rooney
      Nani > Nasri
      Djourou > Evra
      Song > Young

        Just to point out that if you can get through this week without making hits you'll have a big advantage over others. I've largely reduced an 80 point deficit in my mini-league in the last month, and about 24 of those points have been from me not taking a single hit.

      We'll find out when Wenger has his press conference on thursday or friday. I think there is still a chance he will make it, but if he does recover it would probably be a risk he may just play a few minutes in the second half.

    Hrunny (and anyone else with an opinion)- what’s best? I only have 1 free transfer. Thanks.

    a) Djourou -> Walker
    b) Tevez -> RVP
    c) Baines, Arteta & Tevez -> Walker, Lampard & RVP (8 point hit)
    d) Djourou & Tevez -> Dawson & RVP
    e) Something else – please suggest.

    Current squad is below:

    Foster
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov
    Nani, VDV, A Young, Nasri
    Tevez, Berbatov, Zigic
    Subs: Stockdale, Djourou, Kelly, Arteta

              You actually shouldn't do that, you will be registered by the government as "religious" rather than "non-religious". They then use these figures to justify wasting our money on religious gibberish.

          So I hear, once the initial swelling subsides, often the injury will be less serious than previously perceived. Still, each will have to weigh up whether he's worth hanging onto because he certainly won't be back for a few weeks.

            It's a bit ridiculous really, Wenger saying he was gone for the season seemed a bit hasty, I would of though having suffered a minor discolation of my shoulder 10-12 years ago playing rugby I was back within 2 months, and that is for rugby, so I would say out for the season seemed a little heavy.

            That being said, it is all well and good for Djourou to be positive and optimistic himself, it's the medical staff that will decide and ultimately Wenger, out for a month I say.

          Lampard's been "lucky" his whole FPL career - pens, deflected scuffs from the edge of the box, dodgy BPs...he's a points machine when firing and there are signs that he's getting back to full whack at the moment.

          Keep him.

    Can i get away with no hits this week to field 11? Latest news on Djourou makes me think it could be possible...if so, any better options that

    a) Tevez -> RVP??
    b) Kolarov -> Walker
    c) Kolarov -> Dawson

    Current squad is:

    Foster
    Baines, Coleman, Djourou
    Nani, VDV, A Young, Nasri
    Tevez, Berbatov, Zigic

    Subs: Stockdale, Kolarov, Kelly, Arteta

      If you are definitely wanting to field 11 then why replace people who are definitely fit and most likely to play? What about taking out Arteta for someone (Adam, O'Hara, Hitzelsperger?) and Kelly for Walker?

        Well, if I can squeeze out 11 without a transfer i'd want to shift the Man City duo. If not then I'd probably do Kelly/Djourou -> Walker. My camicaze move is Baines, Arteta & Tevez -> Walker, Lampard & RVP, which I haven't ruled out just yet...

            False. There is a sequence of results that could mean that we don't qualify even if we beat WI.

            If South Africa beat Ireland, Bangladesh beat South Africa and WI beat India, then we'll probably be knocked out because our NRR will be worse than India's. The table would look:

            South Africa 8
            West Indies 8
            Bangladesh 8
            India 7
            England 7

            Of course it's unlikely, but definitely possible.

                I dunno, Kemar Roach could knock over their top order and then Pollard could demolish their spinners! If the West Indies turn up then it could be a very good match, they have a lot of talent in their side.

    To me subbing out Tevez to RVP is the sort of thing that one should be considering on a free transfer, rather than taking a hit for it. AT least then the potential for it to blow up in your face in a humongous way is slightly diminished. I would always try to avoid spending points taking out a player who has the potential to score big in any game, including Chelsea away, and Tevez's recent scores have not been out of touch with the sorts of numbers he's been posting all season.

      Yeah really not understanding all this shipping out Tevez nonsense to be totally honest with you. But then I have other priorities in my team to be dealing with.

      I'm just pleased that I wasn't one of the 100k to knee jerk and take Nani out.

    GW32: Baines, Kolarov & Arteta -> Luiz, Stearman(any better for 4m or less?) & Lampard (4 point hit)

    over the next few weeks Im planning Huth, Arteta, Tevez, Berbatov out....Lamps, Luiz, Gyan, RVP in. Nothing shocking there. These moves would leave me with .4 in the bank as of now. Hopefully enough funds to cover rises/falls. I also need to change my keeper, taking out Szczesny. Whoever I get would be my ONLY active keeper (myhill is the other :() So should I pursue my planned transfers and get a cheap keeper (who?), or can i get away with downgrading Gyan to Welbeck and getting a top keeper like Cech?

      For anyone wanting verification of the Swiss Football Association's statement on Djourou's injury yesterday evening, here it is. As you can see, it doesn't make Wenger appear too clever.

      “Johan Djourou’s shoulder injury seems to be less serious than was feared on Saturday and than was announced by his club trainer.

      The Arsenal and Swiss national team defender underwent intensive medical examinations on Monday. At the end of a long and strenuous day, Johan Djourou had renewed hope that his season might not be over, despite the prediction made by his club trainer Arsène Wenger on Saturday.

      It is evident that he did not suffer any bone breakages or bone injuries, and the ligaments which were severely strained when his shoulder was dislocated do not appear to be in too bad a condition. The 24-year-old still has to wait for the precise evaluation of the examination, but he is clearly determined to do everything possible so that he can be available for the Swiss national team’s EURO 2012 qualification match in Bulgaria on 26th March.” (SFV)

        I have long maintained that Arsenal's medical and physio staff are complete rubbish - even worse than Charlton's, when they were in the Premier League ... 😕

        I need another look at that, but I just wonder if O'Brien had already broken the stumps before he got the ball in his gloves. If not, then it was ridiculously quick wicketkeeping.

      I dunno, they'll still need two from Porterfield/O'Brien/Joyce to bat well to have any chance of chasing what SA set them.

      And they need to get Duminy out, he's a serious player. Once they're past him, the rest of the SA middle order is suspect.

      hope so. they have been great this tournament and it will be unfair on them if due to the other associate nations being so utterly shite that ireland have to miss out on the next world cup
