Arsene Wenger has given us a timely update on the injury situation at the Emirates, announcing that Cesc Fabregas, Abou Diaby, Alex Song and Theo Walcott could all return to contention in time for the gameweek 31 clash with Blackburn.

Speaking to Arsenal TV, Wenger sounded optimistic on their chances…

“It’s a long way to go, but at the moment they’re looking good.â€

The return of the midfield quartet will surely prove a huge positive for Arsenal’s title challenge, but for Fantasy Managers their availability could cause issues with rotation. The return of Walcott and Fabregas in particular, clouds the issue with Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin who will both be on the radar as we lead into Arsenal’s double fixture in gameweek 33.

That pairing have previously been vying for the starting role on the left flank, with Walcott operating on the right. While Arshavin has at times played second fiddle to the outstanding Nasri, the Russian’s current run of form will surely hand Wenger a selection poser. We could well see frequent rotation of Walcott, Nasri and Arshavin over Arsenal’s remaining matches then – denting the Fantasy potential of all three.

Cesc Fabregas seems set to emerge as smart acquisition yet again then, despite a faltering season which has seen him return just 3 goals to go with 10 assists to this point. Injury has obviously hampered his potential, but if Fabregas can make an eye-catching return against Blackburn, he will be firmly back in our thoughts for the season run-in, particularly if Wenger begins to shuffle elsewhere in his midfield.

In other injury news from the Emirates, Thomas Vermaelen has indicated that he is unlikely to see action this season…

“The chances that I will play another game this season are small…I can understand my manager when he says that my season is over: I have been out for seven months and I must fulfil a complete ‘pre-season.â€

The defender has been nursing an Achilles injury since September, leaving Wenger stretched for resources at the back; a situation worsened by the recent shoulder injury sustained by Johan Djourou. Arsenal did at least receive positive news on him this week – the Swiss international will not require surgery and the latest indicates that he will be targeting a return for the clash with United on May 1. Until then, Wenger looks set to persevere with Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci at the back – not a pairing that encourages confidence or investment from Fantasy Managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          from that andy zaltzman fella:
â— On the subject of recruiting South Africans, it is surely time for cricket to institute a baseball-style draft system to ensure that the hundreds of spare South African cricketers milling around the world are fairly distributed around the emerging nations. Under this system, Kevin Pietersen, for example, instead of being able to choose to play for England, would have been allocated to Bangladesh, or Afghanistan, or Luxembourg. Ideally, within ten years or so, this would result in all teams in world cricket having five South Africans each, of roughly equal quality, thus ensuring that matches between the established and rising cricket countries are more competitive.

Interesting article here about a guy's thoughts on Wenger suggesting that the final three rounds of Premier League matches should kick off simultaneously.

Goes on to give a summary of the results from the teams (arsenal, chelsea, man united) as either pace setters or responders, we see which they prefer.

Also he looks at how good teams are at capitalising on results as responders, that is winning when their rivals have dropped points before them, and how likely they are to stumble as responders, that is dropping points when their rivals have won before them.

Well worth a read IMO: http://5addedminutes.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/who-would-benefit-from-simultaneous-title-run-in-kick-offs/

I'll read that later as I'm in a bit of a hurry, but certainly it's typical Wenger to try and change the rules to benefit his team.

Only a handful of years ago he suggested that you should be rewarded more points for bigger wins or something like that.

Evening all. Too early to decide, I know, but looking ahead to next week:

    Team at the minute:

    Foster (Begovic)
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov, Carr, (Djourou)
    Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam, (Thomas)
    RvP, Rooney (Saha)

Was planning to save the transfer this week, then do

    Baines to Walker (or Bramble)
    Thomas to Lamps
Saha to Welbeck (or Doyle, or Ba, or Sturridge – someone cheap who I won’t play often).

Do I need to make the Saha transfer this week instead? Thomas is my only fit sub, Coleman’s out of the internationals, and Kolarov is not guaranteed to start.

Having perviously only seen the YouTube "sensation" Rebecca Black at work without sound, I have to say, fair dues to the kid, she sounds like a robotic lamb, it is amazing how something so chronic can get such widespread attention and "acclaim" from artists like Lady GaGa, who is no stranger to a bleeting robotic lamb sound either, albeit that she would probably be a robotic sheep.

Ms. Black, balls as big as a house, fair dues to you.

haven't heard of this person until today. fill me in, is all the hype and ludicrous number of hits on that video due to people absolutely loving the song? OR is has it become such a big deal because people think it's a bit crap and can't believe the hype it's getting? very confused here

A bit of both, I saw it on Metro.co.uk the other day while I was checking my fantasy team. It's a Justin Bieber type story really, she recorded the song and a record company gave her $25,000 I think to make a video and now here we are, movie deals/book deals/music deals coming out the wazoo!

odd. i'm sure if you picked out 1000 girls at random from anywhere in america at least 100 of them could sound just as good. i genuinely have no ideas what a good voice is anymore as i agree she sounds like a robotic, if loveable, lamb

I haven't seen the video in question, but I think you're talking about autotune. It's used on singers who can't keep in tune when they sing and it makes their voice sound robotic... see Cher and Kanye West.

The 'robotic' voice is because of all the editing that needs to be done to her singing voice to make it sound like she could actually sing. I can't focking understand how you talk about Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black on this footballsite. That's just gay. You don't need to listen or talk about shitty music. Try it, you'll feel much better.

It's not really an accurate reflection of the music industry as a whole though, is it? The video was just some present for that kid - Rebecca Black - from her parents. The company who produced the video, Ark Music Factory or something like that, basically charge rich parents loads to have their kid in some music video, like this one. It wasn't meant to get so much attention, people just presumably stumbled across the video on YouTube, found the lyrics absolutely hilarious and the whole thing has snowballed from there.

Yes, in my opinion, Cahill is a bit of a punt, especially if he doesn't end up with many touches...ala Rooney, which we know still isn't a guarantee of shots or points. My hunch is this free's up Beckford or moreso an Osman, who, in my opinion is in the best form on the team. He may be the one you want to target as Cahill isn't fit enough to play close to 90, especially the was Everton play. Does anyone know if Moyes will be moving Osman to a more central midfield role now that the youngin is banged up?

        The name?

You know that betting site you linked? The main bet that he puts each day has won for like the past fortnight but do you follow the accumulators and that, not sure if it is that accurate?

I've just counted and the main bet has won 13 times out the last 15, that is so impressive especially with the odds of the bets he tips, most are evens.

I have the accumulator tonight, need Holland to win now!

Was watching http://www.flashscores.co.uk/ a few minutes ago to see the Portugal U21s score... I may have done a little jump when they took the lead in the 89th minute.

Also stayed up until three watching some stream of the Velez Sarsfield game last night (was the last game of my accumulator).

My favourite one-sided fight of all time. Lacy was the next big superstar apparently and was the favourite going in. Calzaghe ruined him. You don't come back from a beating of such brutality, simple as that.

Hola Akers, glad to see another fan of pugilism round these parts.

I met Big Joe Egan the other day at a charity dinner, he was Tyson's sparring partner during his hayday, that dude has some amazing stories. Unfortunately boxing has gone down the shitter since then.

Did you see the Klitschko vs Solis fight? Utter farce.

I bet he did. I saw an advert last year looking for a driver to work free-of-charge (expenses paid), driving Mike Tyson from the UK to Prague on a promotional tour. How amazing would that be?

The Solis fight was laughable. Haye tweeted something like "that's what happens when you spend your life morbidly obese... ligaments and knees should not be giving out on a healthy boxer.... he'll go down as another fat bum".

Ah well, at least the British boxers are doing well, Haye finally got his fight with Wlad, Khan is one Irishman away from a Super fight with Bradley, and Froch continues his amazing (unnoticed in the UK) run.

I don't beleive there was anything wrong with his knee, he should have got a raspberry award for that performace, he got his payday, Klitch got his nice safe defence, the big shitbag money machine that is modern boxing rolls merrily along.

I hear Fedor is heading to the UFC, now we're talking, boxing could learn so much from UFC's format.

I don't get to see much boxing over here, though I did get up in the middle of the night to watch the Hopkins fight - they were only showing it because of Hopkins religion (he converted to Islam) and the crazy Turkish commentator was screaming "Get in there Bernard!" In true Harry Carpenter fashion.

Think I might watch the Kessler fight in a minute.

Yes I'm iphoned off my tits but it's not the same, to be fair I have been offline for 5 weeks and only missed 2 gameweeks, classic me, knowing when to have a connectivity crisis.

Speaking of 'Immortal' it reminds me of one of my favourite posts of the season:

Bloody hell, if it was the opinion of Sam Beckett, who having leaped into 2022 had seen Rooney's whole career then I would give an article like this some credence.
It's way too early in his career to call him 'a footballing immortal'.

So what are the bets for this weekend fellas? The first leg of my accy is on the go at the moment. Got overs on the Austria - Belgium game then ROI to win to nil plus England and Croatia to win tomorrow. Round about 10/1 i think.
