Things don’t get any easier for me. A few weeks ago I was looking towards Gameweek 8 with a degree of comfort, content that this would be a weekend that would have me back in the game. Now, it’s arrived, I’m not so confident.

While I’ve spent hours desperately searching to find a free transfer to help matters, I still don’t see one. The back three and front three pick themselves, leaving the midfield as my likely target for inspiration. Sadly, I find myself with a lack of confidence, fearing that, should I make a switch, the chopped or dropped will deliver points and leave me curled up in a ball of frustration.

Not only is my team not performing, it seems to be holding secret coffee morning meetings and conspiring to present me with problems that force me into a corner. I think they hold them on Wednesday afternoons when I’m walking the dog. I’ve come home and found cups and saucers, and a stray french fancy down the side of the sofa – I reckon that’s Hatem Ben Arfa’s doing.

I’ve said in the past that I’ve always regretted the errors made through “inaction” more than those that result from positive moves – from gutsy transfers. Even so, I’ve starred at my lineup and, while I know full well that the likes of Ben Arfa, Christian Eriksen and Victor Moses are on shaky ground, I also know that all three have it in them to hurt me once I turn my back. Added to that, the obvious replacements will likely gain me little ground – on paper, this isn’t the Gameweek to gamble on a differential.

I can at least take solace in the fact that I’m no longer saddled with Robin van Persie and his kitbag of troubles. Having failed to ignite, he now seems blighted by regular minor injuries, sneaked out by David Moyes on a Friday to send the Dutchman’s owners into mild panic. Once again Van Persie is a doubt, although this morning’s press all feel he’ll take to the field against Southampton. Each of our six papers has Van Persie up top for United, while the Mail, the Telegraph and the Sun decide that Rio Ferdinand won’t make it at the back – Phil Jones deputises in two of those lineups, Jonny Evans in the other.

Elsewhere, rumours of a rest for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey are not supported by the press. The inspired Welshman starts in all six of the predicted lineups to quell those fears. Despite the knock whilst on international duty, only the Sun are brave enough to bench the German with Tomas Rosicky earning a start in their lineup for the Emirates meet with Norwich.

There’s also reassurance for those fearing Jose Mourinho’s rest and rotation ahead of their midweek Champions League tie in with Schalke. The press seem settled on their Chelsea lineup for the meeting with Cardiff – Oscar and Mata are present in all six teamsheets this morning. Having recovered from injury, Torres starts in four of those six at the expense of Demba Ba.

Finally, the aforementioned Ben Arfa is recalled by the Daily Mail, the Telegraph and the Guardian at the expense of Yoan Gouffran. Alan Pardew filled his press conference with praise for the Frenchman, dropping anvil like hints that he could start against Liverpool later today and, it seems, some of the papers are convinced.

Typically, that clouds my judgment further. With an hour to go, I’m definitely holding Ben Arfa, but do I gamble on a giving him a shirt? I know all too well that he will relish the stage presented to him by the Liverpool clash, that Pardew will be under pressure from the Tyneside faithful to start him, that Ben Arfa has got the weapons to wreck my Saturday should I bench him.

While I ponder the situation further, it leads me to realise that I suddenly feel empathy for Alan Pardew. It’s a new low.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Nah, Rodgers loves Agger, but he's sticking to his word and picking players on form

Kolo and Skrtel have both been playing really well and don't deserve to get dropped

Sakho is Rodgers' big signing, so he wants him to play, though at the moment you'd want Agger in ahead of him

So when he was at home he was doing the hand thing when you close a window on ipad...(pull your fingers together)...Sounds easy but it took me a couple of days to work out that he was asking for his own Ipad (got him one now)...and now that is the sign for Ipad...

i'm an american who has been living in china since 2001. thanks to my FPL addiction my british friends here in shanghai trot me out at parties, calling me "statto" and then embarrassing me by letting their mates ask me questions like "who won the 1984 FA Cup?". i started playing this game in 2007. that's as far back as my knowledge goes!

shocked a guy from luton the other week when i could tell him more about his current side than he could tell me about arsenal (my team). i guess that's what non-league football does to a person.

Buparvaquone is a second-generation hydroxynaphthoquinone related to parvaquone, with novel features that make it a promising compound for the therapy and prophylaxis of all forms of theileriosis.

        3-4-1-2 again

        Migs
        Toure, Skrtel, Sakho
        Johnson, Henderson, Gerrard, Cissokho
        Moses
        Suarez, Sturridge

Once Coutinho is back, he'll come in for Moses and that will be a great lineup

Enrique has a minor injury and Agger, well Agger seems to be unfortunate in that he got mildly injured and hasn't managed to get back in the team since

      It does feel weird thouh

One to watch in this coming match, other than the usual suspects...Yohan Cabaye....Riding high in shots and threat index and on ITWT's explosion imminenet. All pointing in the right direction for a good diff pick.

He may be rotated for Benjamin Buttons (Osman) but deulofeu is coming in my team after this week I believe. Hopefully he doesn't you too much this week in the 35 minutes he'll see today.

He's always been the safe pick as an alternative to HBA, often a little too expensive for me though.

Everything you just sayd seems incorrect, the guy is on 1.4 shots per game though has 2 sub appearences, but still weak. 3 shots on goal that is less than 1 per game. Rarely shoots inside the box like all good goalscorers. This season he has taken 12 shots and 3 on target. Last season he scored with every 10th shot and every third shot on target.

Only thing that is correct is that he is a differ, but if a good one I doubt

Seven of those shots have come in his last two games....3 blocked...3 on target and 1 off target...Last season Newcastle didn't set themselves up in the same attacking away. It's looking like Pardew may be going 4-3-3 again which is when he seems most dangerous. We'll see....

Ummm this, Cabaye is too injury prone as well. Newcastle is as inconsistent as him. When they're good they're good...

The Pool defence is like the Spurs midfield with an endless array of options.

They haven't kept a cleanie since GW3, which is infuriating as Boruc to Mgnolet move in the WC. Nearly as bad as Bale to Hazard around the same time last year.

The three 1-0 wins inspired optimism, but there's been a lot of chopping and changing at the back due to injuries and the new signings, and it has been quite frustrating since

The Palace and Sunderland games could easily have resulted in clean sheets with a bit more concentration
