Tottenham’s summer signing from Valencia finally produces the goods as Andre Villas-Boas’ side east past Villa. England’s latest wing sensation also plays a part, whilst four alterations from the visitors may signal the exit of a certain Danish playmaker from many a Fantasy line-up:

The Game Changer

A goal and assist in this afternoon’s win over Villa brings Roberto Soldado back into the Fantasy spotlight.

Dropped for Jermain Defoe last time out, the Spaniard regained his starting berth for the trip to Villa Park and repaid Andre Villas-Boas’ faith by playing a part in both the visitors’ goals. Today’s strike was Soldado’s first from open play this season but in spite of a stuttering start, he has, nevertheless, remained key for his side – this afternoon’s haul means he has played a part in five of Tottenham’s eight league goals this term.

Sold on by considerable numbers of Fantasy managers over the last few Gameweeks, Soldado’s display rewarded the patience of the 10% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who kept faith in his talents. Now down to 9.2, he has home games against Hull and Newcastle in the next three to help build on today’s display and with confidence flourishing, those looking for an alternative to the current template may just decide he’s worth a flutter.

The Underused

Andros Townsend’s outstanding week continued after the Spurs winger grabbed the opener in today’s win.

Despite netting for England last week, Townsend had managed just a single assist in six league appearances, with his penchant for a long-range effort reaping little reward. His opener at Villa Park, whilst somewhat fortuitous, is likely to see increased interest ahead of next week’s visit of Hull –priced at just 5.6 in FPL, he’s currently owned by under 3% of managers.

Although Tottenham’s multitude of midfield talent means his long-term starting berth is far from nailed-on, Townsend’s rich vein of form looks likely to keep him at the head of the queue for a role on the right – Aaron Lennon’s injury comeback will only increase the competition, though.

The Selection Poser

Villas-Boas’ quartet of changes merely emphasised the strength in depth available at the Lane this season. Christian Eriksen’s owners will undoubtedly be the most disappointed after the Dane dropped out of the starting XI for the first time since making his debut in Gameweek 4.

Currently sitting in over 6% of FPL teams, the exodus is likely to get underway over the next few hours. With so many cheaper alternatives guaranteeing starts and greater returns, Eriksen’s owners will be unlikely to remain patient – there is a theory, though, that his omission was perhaps only down to his international exertions over the past week or so. At the back, Villas-Boas’ decision to hand Vlad Chiriches his first start could soon have Michael Dawson owners on edge, too – with Jan Vertonghen expected to return to the centre once Danny Rose is finally fit, question marks remain over who is likely to get the nod as the Belgian’s partner.

Christian Benteke’s return to action may have failed to ignite the hosts’ faltering attack but it will, nonetheless, have Fantasy managers on alert. Emerging from the bench around the hour mark, the Belgian – now down to 8.8 in FPL – will surely be restored to the starting line-up next time around as Paul Lambert looks to address an attack that has now failed to score in each of the last two.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Boruc - K.Davis
    Toure - Dawson - Kosc - Coleman - Chester
    Yaya - Ozil - Michu - Brady - Williams(crystal palace)
    Lukaku - Giroud - Suarez

    With 1FT & 1.4m in the bank. What should i do for this week?

    A) Williams > Morison (whu) or upgrade for 5.7 player
    B) Upgrade other player
    C) Keep the FT

    Funny how everyone is itching to bring in Hazard, when 3 weeks ago the majority of us wanted to stamp on his neck. Yes, including me.

      Oscar is Mourinho's number 10 and he was clearly rested after his travels.

      The stats seem to indicate though that Hazard was very much due and involved in alot of attacking play, especially in the box. Oscar though is more clinical...when he gets a chance he's more likely to convert. I think given Chelsea's good fixtures both are great options, but Oscar still edges it for me.

      I've been wanting to get rid of him for Oscar for a while, but always seemed too sideways (and more important transfers needed)

      Feel lucky to get his points last couple. In no way is it down to 'a good decision' from me.

    Was Swansea’s fourth goal definitely a Fletcher own goal? I just saw it the one time on MOTD2 and it looked a clear Chico goal, didn’t see any replays though.

        It should be, but as Eto'o was offside I'd be very surprised if they do change it. That would mean they accept that the officials got the decision wrong...

    Last Chance to get on Todays Leaderboard

    Quick Exercise to work out your real score in terms of WC & value.

    A = Total Points
    B = Team Value / 100
    C = Selling Value / 100
    D = WC (40 points)

    For me it's 418 x 1.033 x 1.012 = 437

    For those with a WC, add 40 to the number. Expect quite a few in the 500-600 range.

        All depends on how you use

        a) WC
        b) the extra value you have compared to most of us. Getting that one extra big hitter that the rest of us can't afford due to the value you have locked away plus the Jan WC benefit of extra value.

        Rather be you than someone with 10 more points with a WC & horrible team value compared to you.

    Who wants to be a millionaire?

    After seeing chat of Marks team and also the post by Samaael on the previous page, it gives hope to all of us outside the top 1m. I know that the number of players to the FPL site has increased and we've now broken the 3m mark, but us hardened pros shouldnt be seeing red arrow after red arrow and sitting outside the top 33% of players.

    So to make us feel a bit better and soften the blow of ML embarrassment ive created a league which starts GW9 and is only for those hard up on their luck and languishing outside the top million. This will be good to see the big movers come GW38. Surely at least one of us can break the top 5k 🙂 Anyway the code is 91-644330

      Still don't understand why Alan Pardew chose to play Remy, who's a striker, on the wing, and play Ben Arfa, a winger, up front.

    Will most likely be a 3 week punt for (HUL, eve, NEW), but which is better?

    A) Paulinho
    B) Townsend

    Both have impressive stats, but Paulinho seems more central and gets his shots away in the box. Also unlikely to subject to much rotation. Townsend however is bang on form and 1.4m cheaper.

      As it's just a punt either way go for Paulinho. He is bound to convert 1 of his chances soon.

    see that Balotelli and Vidal flagged as doubtful this week
    so thinking of taking them for Muller and Turan
    which one of the following would you prefer to go with this
    A Bruno> Oscar
    B Hulk > Rvp/Ibramovich
    C Leave it at 2 transfers

      West Brom have not lost this fixture over the last three seasons and Liverpool have mustered just one goal over that time...shocked to discover this. Are WBA liverpool's bogey team?

    Current team in gw9

    Boruc (Mignolet)
    Baines, Clyne, Dawson (Terry, Burner)
    Ozil, Ramsey, Siggy, Barkley (Lucas)
    Suarez, Lukaku, Giroud

    Bank = 4.2

    Should I use my ft to trade out Lucas for - Lallana, De Guzman, Morrison, Brady in that order. I'm a newbie & I've seen Lallana play & he is a bit of a dynamo & covers territory. Never seen De Guzman play but apparently he's a bit of a gun. Next week will go Siggy to Oscar.
    Happy with my defense but would like to get some Swansea cover (Rangel, Chico) but that can wait.
    Opinions welcome on my logic or are there other options I'm missing.
    Cheers.

        Had him from the start & have never got around to ditching him as always had other priorities. Will probably bring in Lallana due to his next 3 fixtures (Ful (h), Stk (a), Hull (h)). Lallana seems the best option to me.

    hey lads , hows your gw?

    i am having another mare , get used at that already

    anyways i dont have much time for FFS since i've been busy

    i did 2 ANGRY tranfers yesterday after Eriksen has been dropped

    been patient too long and that get me nowhere so far

    anyways i take 4pts hit and did Eriksen and Arnie OUT

    Towestand and Hazard in

    after watching spurs and england game i just can't ignoree that Towestand lad , seems like he is real deal and his price is brilliant

    knowing my season those transfers will be flop...

      Good transfers IMO. Not sure if I should go for Oscar or Hazard after GW. 9. Ozil (c)?

      I think he's been harshed in the past due to his propensity to do crazy things that get lengthy bans. I've personally always thought he was an incredible player. So far he's keeping his crazy side at bay and that makes him invaluable right now.

      I got him in this week already.Needed to dump Ward-Prowse, seemed like a reasonable gamble given his price and the only other Spurs play I have is Walker. Not expecting huge returns but I think he's worth a punt.Hopefully get a couple of price rises with him too.

      Tricky spot for Eriksen owners. No link I'm afraid, but I heard that Eriksen was only rested due to 2 x 90 mins for Denmark, whereas Holtby was fully rested. If that's true then I wouldn't be surprised to see Eriksen back for HUL.

      I'm most likely bring a Spurs midfielder in the week but will wait until after the Europa game. Only 7.6m for me so Paulinho or Townsend (both have great stats, especially Paulinho, e.g. most shots in the box of all midfielders. Yep, you read that right.)
